I've often tried to draw anime/manga like it is in the AQ games, but I am awfully bad in that so in the end everything ends different. So I have a question: Can you still call this drawing-style anime/manga?
BlackSword

By the way, I know how horrible it is, but I'm just getting started and am already in tutorials ;) Never the less, if this is no good drawing style , could you give me tips to change it into anime style?

thanks a lot, I hope I am in the right forum...

I believe weapons are similar no matter which style you follow, though anime-styled weapons tend to be sturdier and over-sized. Your BlackSword is no doubt larger that practical, but the blade itself seems paper thin, making it seem like it's made from sheet metal (aka flexible and not sturdy). I think what ruins it is the shine and lack of appropriate shadows as the light source on the handle and blade seem to be completely different.

We all have to start from somewhere. It's a good try. Keep it up. :)

That'd better, but you still need to fix the shading.
And, if you'retrying to look like AQW, then shorten the blade, and make it wider.

Shortend and fixed the shading... Is it my imagination or does it now look quite empty? Is there a possibility to make that (now) wide blade of that sword looking more interesting?
I really apreciate your help, I myself would have done like the excact oposit.^^

hmm that does look better, however maybe do something to the hilt, you could maybe make it a bit more fancy?
i dno though its worth a try, but it might ruin it, but u never know...
also maybe add a centre to the blade, kinda a lighter shade going up it. again it might ruin it but worth a try...

I think adding runes onto it would be nice.

Like on there.
There are hundreds of rune fonts.

My Problem with those rune fonts is, that my sword has not enough resolution , so I can't use them, hat's why I made again my beloved mistake to think that I can do it on my own XD Here are the horrible results:
very bad runes

Truthfully, leather is not about the drawing but the coloring. Also, leather is one of the hardest texture to really capture--you need to study realistic clothing creasing and proper shadows and highlights. The best way to learn leather is to observe other drawings or actual reference and of course numerous trial-and-error practices.

I think what makes the drawing look awkward is that it has too many runes. They also look more like Chinese characters for some reason...

You should observe other swords from anime.
Try observing this sword: The Sword of Baltanders from Orphen.

Closer look of the hilt: http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/8928/orphen16.jpg

Look at the glowing effect of the runes in the first picture; doesn't it look cool? You should add something like that.

I-like-grip-but-not-glowing-style-weapon
Like the link says, I can't find a good way to let red runes glow (blue and green works, but it doesn't match to the steel of the weapon, I guess)

I suggest leaving only the main centre bit.
Then having slightly smaller runes on there.

To let it glow, try coloring with a lighter tone of the base color and set its opacity a little bit high. Then use blur filter. I also suggest studying how light works.

The rune symbols looks great, however it seems like it was painted over the metal rather than being engraved. Try making it look more 3-dimensional.

@Atriax
Did you mean with that I have to put slightly smaller runes onto the centre? If yes here is the result:
Sword

@Abiogenist
I'm now trying

result:
a lil bit shiny sword
Looks at least a little bit better so I just leak in skill...

ahh yes id say that is a very nice sword, but to make it better keep the same hilt bit make it a bit fancier if you get me. try and make it something like Thsi, i know that may be quite hard but it would finish the weapon completely.

hmmm gonna be difficult indeed... my blade is so wide, so I can't draw a cross guard like the one u propose... I'm gonna start drawing in 1 hour, because my computer needs to rest, it has become pretty slow (after 3days on, no wonder).
Meanwhile I'd love to hear other opinions or agreements, cause I wanna use this sword in my 1rst animation too, so it should be as good as possible (for me^^)

EDIT:
Am now on but I'm really stucked with that cross guard... Can anyone help me? (again ^^)
