This is something i have been noticing with the lower levels of the game.

I have a number if alts in the 20-30 level area, which i really dont care much about as they were fillers in a faction at one point, or just alts for the heck of trying a different class.
I have a merc, level 26 now, that a lot of people would complain to me about. It's pretty simple, high tech, high heal, low plasma ( it does 470 damage), and level 1 supercharge. I also have level 7 battery, and level 8 assimilation, with high HP (800)

Basically, it works the exact same as my old merc: deal decent damage with a low cast spell, tank for a few turns, ( i have my assim, heal, then armor core) and then i can use supercharge to deal big damage, and then usually i have rage and aux, but if i dont then i can use battery and i tend to have enough to rage my plasma bolt...

Now after a single night of playing on this char again, countless number of times i was told by (i wont say inexperienced players, but ones that obviously have never played in the higher level tiers) that i wasnt following what my class was meant to do, which is overload and multi.. i wasnt able to convince most of these people that i am using a different techniqe and that all classes have the sole purpose of earning kills, everything else is just the tactic you use to get there.

Now i am confused by where on earth did we give these people the idea that there is only one way to build a class? i want to discuss how this has happened and what we can do to change it, casue the fact that majority of the next gen players being mentally confined into these certain builds per class is rather scary... it would be worse than every using an OP build cause it wins... they would use it because they think they have no other choice... any thoughts? has anyone else had this or a similar experience?

Each class has something they excel at better than others.

Tactical merc for example when it was created excels at tanking better then the others.

Tech mage is the best class casting spell attacks for damage ETC.

However as you said before this doesn't mean the classes are limited to just these.

Like when we battled each other that one time you saw that while I was a TM was wasn't using a caster build but a battle mage build which is something that my evolved class BM excels at.

But yeah I was told the same thing by many players so I get what you mean.

oh i agree with you complete on these. and i like your style, inspired me in ways ;)

Im just curious as to how this started.. last time i was active for an extended period of time, this had never started :/

In some cases, balance are so bad that are actually only a few options for a class to choose. For example, BH. Ever since the passives to actives, you see less diversity in BH builds. Why? Because now that blood costs energy, deals damage on str, and takes a turn, they have less energy and turns for options. 5/7 BH skills that are offense currently deal damage off of str. This will inevitably lead to many str builds in the class. The new costs of passives to actives wastes time and energy for many classes, leading to less diversity.

It s all releated to build coping.The problem is that these "massive builds" are always very cheap and based on the craps in the balance system, so evryone can use them and they can be effective. it s a pain for the gameplay when too many players are using no effort builds that win too often and fast; and if we have to build our charter, considering that evryone is using that build with that class, we ll have less choices, ending up in the game having even less variety.

Energy dependence destroyed almost all builds. They only had to balance the passive skills instead of active everything. Now everyone is str because str does not rely on energy.
