I logged into EpicDuel not long ago for the first time in 3 years. The number of players are playing at the moment is shocking (peak 400), back in the days average used to be 1.5k. I know for a fact that the game is dying due to awful decisions made by the devs (yes the Omega phase sucks and everything should be at least reverted back to Delta). Regarding that, is there anything being done about the game at the moment? Or devs still not listening to its small player base that is left?

They are listening but being biased. They are being biased to those non-top-class players.

Yes, that's why I said "the first". Implying that there will be many more.

It's not "dying", it's already dead.
The population is extremely small, a fraction of what it was during the game's popularity, and is not growing.
It's been like this for more than a year.

There doesn't have to be literally 0 people or an offline server for a game to be dead.

Technically, ED is dead, and comes back to life somehow during the gifting event sooo

But are devs doing anything to bring back older players? It's about time for a new phase. Yes we all know they clearly stated that Omega would be the last phase but it has been 4 years since Omega released and the game isn't heading in its greatest direction either. Also what about reverting all the changes to at least Delta phase? Surely that would bring back some of the older players back. What about having 2 seperate versions of the game like Runescape? Many players never liked the new Runescape so they requested the older version back, and the devs listened to them and bringed it back. Now there's more people playing older Runescape than the newer one. I'm sure EpicDuel devs are capable of doing such thing as well.

Jagex has HUNDREDS of staff members. Many of them are specialized game designers.
EpicDuel has 4 staff members. Zero of them are specialized game designers.

Even if they magically got the manpower to create and maintain a second legacy realm, they don't have the design power to make it actually enjoyable while also providing updates to anything else. OSRS is constantly updated, and has exclusive content that has never been in any other version of RuneScape. It's a new game branched out from an old build, not just a random old build left to rot.

You have a point. At this moment hoping for them to make a legacy realm is just too much. They can surely revert back to Delta, I'm sure they have majority of the older code saved, or release a new phase which hopefully fixes the issues with the game. At the end of the day it's just hopes and expectations considering they haven't even tried reviving the game for the past years.

let me just take a moment to answer some Q's here

Devs still not listening to its small player base that is left?

Yes. We listen, and do what we can.

EpicDuel has 4 staff members. Zero of them are specialized game designers.

With a 4 man team its true, you have to be a jack of all trades and skilled in many areas. If we had a bigger team, we could get more specialized.

They can surely revert back to Delta

No, we can't. We've said this many times. There is no going back to any past phase of ED.

With the decline of Flash which EpicDuel relays on and browser use in general (due to the increase of mobile), we knew as a correlation our player base would drop.

We still have new sign ups but its hard to say if those are old players coming back for nostalgia reasons or not. We've always been a small population of players in terms of typical MMO standards. So its a fraction of a fraction. Is EpicDuel dead? There are still somethings people can get enjoyment out of so the question of "is ED dead" will be left to personal opinion.

We brought back gift giving and added some quality of life fixes for the new year. Might not be the big huge changes everyone wants to see, however, we are limited in what we can do.

It's about time for a new phase.

At this time there are no plans for a new phase. Unless you can fix the issues with Flash... no new phase.

On that note... We didn't have a release last week because of the Holidays. NW is writing a DN's and should/hopefully get it posted today with info's to the release tomorrow.

I'm going to 100% back Charfade up on this: Reverting phases would be an insanely difficult task, and rely on approximations. It's not feasible to bring back old versions of EpicDuel, and they would not be 1:1 recreations.
A new phase cannot realistically happen because the platform the game runs on is dead, unsupported, and considered insecure. It would be a wasted investment on something that simply has no path to sustainability.

That being said, games die all the time, especially when their platform becomes obsolete. This does not mean the game cannot be revived with a platform swapped reboot. Reverting to old versions is not the answer, and those versions still retain core issues that prevent the combat from really functioning to the standard that people would expect out of a game that claims to be competitive these days.

Moving forward with a sequel, reboot, or spiritual successor on Unity that is targeted primarily at mobile is the path EpicDuel would have to take to secure a future for itself.
