How to Deal with Problems with another Person

The purpose of this thread is to give advice on what steps you can take to resolve issues with another member when no specific rule-breaking has taken place. This could range from strong disagreements to taking offence at poor choice of language. We want these boards to be a friendly environment that encourages discussion and collaboration between our members, so we hope this advice can help you smooth over any issues you may have with other users.

If you want to report a specific instance of rule-breaking, then please contact an ArchKnight or Moderator affiliated with the board in question, as detailed here. If you wish to appeal against moderating action, then please follow the procedures detailed here.

If this is the first issue that you are having with a specific Forum User, then we would advise trying to ignore it. Especially if the issue we are having with the person is minor, this should be our first course of action. Everyone has a bad day now and again, and we have all said things after a particularly stressful or tiring day that we normally would not, and don't really mean - its best not to make a big issue out of something minor.

If, however, the problem is persistent, or you take great issue with the first instance, then hopefully you will still be able to resolve the problem by discussing it with the Forum User in question, rather than having to contact a member of forum staff.

The first step in dealing with any problem is to clearly spell out your problems to the person in a thorough, yet polite, manner. The best way to do this would be via forums PM, as not to run the risk of derailing the topic of a given thread. No one should yell or shout at people if they are trying to politely and honestly state a problem; by this we mean do not use all-caps, make accusations, or similar in your PM. Simply explain what you have taken offence at, and why, and politely ask if the other member could try to word things differently. Its highly likely that the other member doesn't realize that they are offending you, and will be happy to change their posting style. Most minor disagreements can be solved at this stage.

Sadly, there will be a minority of cases which cannot be resolved directly. In this case, you should forward your concerns on to the relevant Staff member, as detailed below:

For issues with another user and all attempts to resolve it with them directly have failed:
  • Contact one of the head administrators. Scakk's or Zyrain's word is final.

For issues with an Archknight, please contact them directly and attempt to resolve it. If that fails:
  • Contact the head moderator of the board the incident relates to. If that does not resolve your issue,
  • Contact the head of the Archknights, Zyrain. If that does not resolve your issue,
  • Contact one of the head administrators. Scakk's or Zyrain's word is final.

For issues with a Squire of Order or a Knight of Order, please contact them directly and attempt to resolve it. If that fails:
  • Contact the head of the SoO and KoO. If that does not resolve your issue,
  • Contact one of the head administrators. Scakk's or Zyrain's word is final.

For issues with a Moderator, please contact them directly and attempt to resolve it. If that fails:
  • Contact one of the head administrators. Scakk's or Zyrain's word is final.

For issues with a member of the game staff, please contact the game liaison administrator. Eukara Vox's word is final.

    Information to Include
Should you have to PM a Moderator or Administrator to resolve an issue, you need to include all of the relevant information so that they can know what has happened. Please include a detailed description of the current issue you have, who it is with, and what led up to the situation. If the problem started with a post, please provide a link to that post and any further relevant posts. If the issue occurred in PM or moved to PM, please take a screenshot of all PM correspondence (both those you received and sent) and send it with your PM to the Moderator or Administrator. By providing this information, you will speed up the time it takes to obtain a solution to your problem, as it will allow the Staff Member to consider the situation without having to immediately request more information.
