I've been playing on my ALT MERC for a bit recently and sympathize with the plight of most players who fell to a first attack stun only to be stuck, useless and unable to block what was inevitably a KO Berzerker attack. BHs seldom stun as the centerpiece of their build and mages who malf-stun-attack are few at higher levels.

I have also read all the posts about how players suggest this situation be resolved. Many nerfs are targeting skill warm ups or requirements but I would suggest another alternative that both attempts to repair the stun dilemma, targets all classes for fairness sake and opens up another avenue for thoughtful game play.

My suggestion is that once you are stunned you are not totally useless. When stunned you basically lose your turn and become open to all attack since your ability to block is 0. I would suggest that instead, once a player becomes stunned they are not allowed to attack but are allowed to use the following moves:

Health and Energy boosters.
Field Medic
Technician
Defense Matrix
Energy Shield
Reflex Boost
Switch Hybrid Armor
Blood Shield

While I understand poor MERCS don't have any defense boosting or DEX boosting skills, I would say the number of times they are stunned and would require such a skill are indeed minimal and can be evened out with the use instead of perhaps a Health booster or Field Medic. Having Hybrid armor as a passive set to default on defense also helps.

Stun would be relegated to loss of an "offensive" attack and players who use high % stun builds would still have to figure out a way to deal with the player after they wake up. Sounds fair to me since all classes would be treated equally under these rules and no additional requirements or warm ups would have to be added to any single class.

Field Commander boosts STR and is considered offensive only. Since it has no defensive value, I would not add it to the list. I did not add Intimidate on the list because it is an attack along with a STR nerf.

No that is why its called stun your suppose to be defenceless for one turn. Geesh can no one figure out a way to beat STR mercs? Get high dex get weps that boost dex get physical armor I never beat a STR merc but came really close because they had to go first. Yeah they had like 100 STR and I am a lvl 30 non varium merc who has all my weps fully enhanced I am sure you lvl 32 varium beast can find a way to beat them.

The only reason stun works this way is because the DEVS chose to make it so. It can be just as easily changed. Making your opponent totally defenseless is exactly the reason players are complaining. My suggestion is only to enhance the battles and make players think more about what they are doing instead of attempting to attack a defenseless opponent. This goes for Mages and BHs that stun also. Mercs are not the only players who would be affected.

Additionally, lets all keep the discussion about STR Mercs or any other specific build/class and how we beat/don't beat/hate/love them out of this. Keep the discussion to the change in Stun. Thanks

Leave stun alone, imo. If anyone thinks Maul needs a nerf, give it a 40 tech requirement or a 40 support requirement.

And make sure your support is high enough so you can have less chance to be stunned. (+5 focus builds come in handy)

Case solved.


But your solution, Sparticus is very nice indeed. Personally I would just favor a Support Requirement for Maul and a New Debuffing skill for Support and that will solve the problem with Support Mercs and STR Mercs.

@Sparticus But thats my point not everyone wants to have strategy and thinking in their build just want to spam a stat get huge luck factors and mindlessly hit buttons without a plan. You will lose players if you do that because not everyone wants that. I wouldnt mind that but a lot of others would.

@Larcell: Requirements would not stop all the stun abusers. I am guilty of being one and my build defies requirements for any of the skill. I can still do good enough damage without the requirements affecting me.

It also only nerfs Mercs which I don't agree is fair.

@IsaiahtheMage: No one would leave the game if my suggestion were implemented. Just like every other game change, player would adapt. The entire idea behind the change is to make the game more fun. A few abusers are currently ruining the game experience for the many. That is something the DEVS take very seriously and consider a higher priority then making a few abusing players happy. "Not everyone" wanted most of the recent changes but they happened anyway because they were considered "good for the game" as a whole and not good for a few players.

If they don't change it , people will complain.
If they do change it, people will also complain so don't do anything.

I reckon the devs purposely keep OPed builds around for awhile. This increases the amount of profit they get from people switching classes. Once alot of people have switched classes they Nerf the build and repeat the process...... stupid class change -.-
