Firstly, if you've already been a member of my academy RP known as Vanguard Academy, I think that for the most part, you will be familiar with the Plot and everything else. You'll also remember that we left off at the Duelling Championships which I believe were to be started off under the supervision of then host and co-host Nield and Riprose123 seeing as I'd left the boards temporarily.

Anyways, do you remember that I'd been hoping to host a spin-off where you play VA's Infiltration Unit and as VA students, decide to get admission into the much esteemed Shadowfell School for the Elite. The reason for infilltration is something that I haven't quite decided upon but it is to be based upon some information about an all-out raid.

VA was based on the DF Universe but with the introduction of Shadowfell, I hope to expand the boundaries into AQ and such.

What do you think? Any ideas or suggestions? Anything about Vanguard Academy?

I don't know if I'll be able to Host an RP of VA's scale again. And even if I do start it, wherefrom should I start off? I can't start from the beginning. But if I don't, it won't make sense.

I wasn't to familiar with the plot/details about Vanguard Academy, but I did read a little bit into it and I think I'd join a reboot or perhaps a spin-off, but it would depend on a few things.

Man, I was really looking forward to where Vanguard was going. It's a damn shame that it died. I don't see what would be so bad about starting from the beginning - we're all older and wiser now, so I'm sure it would be just as good as last time. But if you don't feel up to it, I understand.

A spin-off would be nice, I guess, although I feel that the Vanguard 'universe' didn't quite get fleshed out enough to warrant one.

Hmm... I think I'll start over from the beginning, but this time, recruit Tutors from the start so that we have actual teachers to coach the students. Also, a few lesser periods in class would help things.

As a change in basic foundations, I think an actual plot will help VA gather steam.

Once I get approved, I'll work on it.

I still have the original first OOC post and the bios the old members posted saved on a google doc. Kooroo and I spent most of the day after the Great Forum Renovation going through chrome's cache and finding everything. I could send you a link to the OOC, Arty, if you wanted.

I'd very much like to see an OOC, just to see what it would be like; unless Arthur plans to post an OOC very soon, in which case I will just wait.

Woah, I am not really in a position to even join an RP at the moment, let alone host one. I still need to be approved.

Anyways, yeah, do link the old OOC just so forumites can get an idea.

Also, since I am going to re-create VA, some old things need to be changed, as in, refined a bit.

For example, the Campus layout and structures. Put some more magic into them as opposed to last time.

I think I'll start with the Academic Block where you'll have your classes. Any suggestions?

@Arthur: That's alright, I think with the right support you can make a worthy proposition to be a RP Host after you pass the RPA. Also, like I said, I don't know what the old VA was like; therefore I can't really give an idea of classes. Although I suppose it's a large school that trains adventurers; if this is the case, here are my suggestions:

-History Classes - A class dedicated to teaching the history of the world and to sharpen the students minds.
-Survival Classes - Classes that teach students how to survive and build camps; building fires, hunting, foraging, forming tents, and various plants and their functions (making medicine).
-Basic Combat Classes - Various classes that train students in the history of specific weapons and their basic functions.
-Advanced Combat Classes - These classes teach the students how to actually use weapons and where they spar with them.
-Basic Magic Classes - These classes teach the students the basis, history, and fundamentals of magic. They'll need to learn these basics before moving onto advanced studies, such as pyromancy or aeromancy.

And then you could have various sub-classes, such as Pyromancy, Aquamancy, Aeromancy, Necromancy, etc. Just some ideas, but like I've said again and again, I never was sure what VA was.

*Inhales a breath, carefully blows the dust off of an old tome labeled " VA OOC"* Man, she needs to see the light again. I'm afraid there might even be water damage....

If you've got a google account, Art, I can give you editing rights for the docs, too.

Anywho, I think I remember the way things were divided up. If I recall correctly, there were a few classes everyone was required to take, then the courses to make you into a hero, ie. Sword Fighting (need a better name for that, I think. Maybe ecompass all weapons, ot just swords and junk), Alchemy, and Rogue Arts, and electives, like dragon taming, sewing, cooking, etc, etc.

I think the buildings are fine. Maybe describe the arcithecture a little more, give them style and beauty. Maybe sprinkle some magic where the mechnations take part.

One thing I'd like to suggest is the house system. I didn't do it very well. I'd say get everyone into houses right off, but don't do it in one big event. Like, list them all off in one post, or something. I don't know. MAybe just scratch the house system entirely.

This might sound a little presumptious of me, but I had a few ideas about VA that I think you'd like. If you'd like me to PM you, I'm entirely happy too. Then again, if this last bit makes youy angry because how dare I to presume to give you ideas about the plot of your RP, well then, I'll shut my trap. :)

Wow, it brings back so many good memories. So many RPers, so many OOC Threads and so much activity.

Looking at the OOC just makes me want to get approved quickly and host VA once again. I am sure it'll pull people into the RPing Section and promote activity like never before.

Anyways, down to work.

I think I'll keep Houses, but I'll have to revamp a bit of their structuring. I want to make them feel more involved in the RP Plot or the Academy Plot as such. Just having House Privileges and Wardens won't be enough. Right now, the Houses feel disjoint.

Classes will have to be aligned so as to make Period posts a bit more understandable. Individuals posting in different time formats feels a bit clunky. I think I'll keep the Periods same and shorten the free periods in the middle so as to complete the classes as soon as possible. After-classes, we'll have our characters work on the Plot Progression because this time, there will be a Plot.

Academy Campus will have more Magic infused into it such as floating dorm sections, a common room from which will branch different house areas. Perhaps some underground structures or a Dragon Observation deck 10,000 feet high in the sky. Cuz', you know, Dragon Riding. ;)

Okay, so please just hear out my Plot before you get down to suggest. Now this is all barebones so bear with me please:

"Vanguard Academy is set in the midst of a Warzone literally. With all of the Land of the Rising Dead(Lore) going into full-blown War, a few students, aged between 12 to 20 were sent off to this elite academy which serves both as their sanctuary and Temple of learning. These students are in-turn entrusted with the future of Battleon, of Falconreach and all of Lore.

However, when their Dean, on the day of their admission is personally taken out by a DoomKnight, revenge becomes one of their priorities.

After their classes, they...."

Uhh... Will some care to sharpen it and add a point?

Are you planning on having our characters stay at the Academy, or are you planning for us to venture out and take revenge on this Doom Knight? Or are we training so that we can one day defeat this Doom Knight? Or perhaps we use teleportation to travel to and from the Academy to accomplish our goals throughout the world?

Ooh, reading through that OOC definitely makes me want to see this happen.

But I think the classes could do with sore more work. Rather than just going with Sword Fighting, Alchemy and Rogue Skills, you could probably create a few more options and differentiate between certain aspects of mage, fighter or rogue skills. I also like TJ's idea of history.

First of all, Alchemy should be split into certain aspects of magic. Illusion, elemental, actual alchemy, Necromancy, etc.
Sword Fighting should probably be split into different weapon groups and fighting styles.
Rogue skills... Hrm. Sneaking, distraction, lock-picking, infiltration, climbing, rogue tool usage, etc. That's what I can come up with for now.
Then, for extra classes outside the main ones, it might be best to go with History, Geography and languages. Certainly there are different languages in this fantasy world, and some students would want to learn them.
Yeah, I think if students are allowed to mix and match between those that gives them some more creativity with what they want to do after leaving the academy.

The House System definitely could do with an overhaul though.

But these just suggestions. I never really RPed much in VA anyways. I pretty much made a character and then failed to get things started.

@TJByrum, I am thinking our characters will be staying at the dorms BUT we'll have a Hunting Day once every 3 days. In those Hunting Days, YOU RPers will make plans to further the Plot under the noses of the Academy authorities. Don't worry, as your batch-head and supervisor, I'll occasionally help you out. However, you have to complete your Hunting Requirements and be back before time lest you arouse suspicion.

Portals will lead you to random locations either in pairs, trios, quads or all of you together to one place so if you do have a plan, plan accordingly. Don't worry, the 'No Metagaming' Rule protects your plans so you can discuss openly.

You will be hearing of this DoomKnight from time to time and staking out key locations as well, as per Hunting Requirements. ;)

@Legendium,

I agree with your suggestions and I'll work to put in some more detail so as to make this reboot feel different from the Original Vanguard Academy. However, Necromancy? Do you think Dark Arts should be embraced in VA?

What do you propose for the Houses?

Lastly, what do you think I should name this reboot?

I was thinking... The Vanguard Academy.

Well, if the academy is meant to be concentrated on honorable skills, why on earth is there a course for thieves?

I think it should still be called Vanguard Academy. No need to add the the.

Okay, as for houses, I'm not entirely certain. It might be better to re-design them without the typical fantasy classes in mind, for a start. Then you should start thinking about what they mean in the RP. House privileges are great, and so are house wardens, but you'll need them to do other things too. Perhaps there can be competitions between houses like capture-the-flag or arena duels. The best thing that houses can do is create rivalry between students. Perhaps you don't hate people for being in another house, but there will certainly be some NPCs that do.
Maybe Houses also have special dorms for their students. They should probably also only be open to second year and higher.

I dunno, those are just a few ideas.

I think the Academy should be neutral, especially since rogues are pretty common in RPG's. Necromancy would be iffy, but I don't think it would be a bad thing. Sometimes Necromancy can be used to communicate with and ward off the dead.

Also Arthur, the History Class I mentioned could be a good way to introduce the players to the world's lore. Some may not care about it, but I love hearing the background and history of the roleplay; the battles fought, important heroes, major events, etc can all be taught in that particular class.

Also, instead of just 'Sword Class' you ought to have a multitude of classes. You could train in bladed weapons, like swords, greatswords, and rapiers. Or perhaps you may train in axes, or even hammers and spears.

I also think it would be cool if each player had to forge their own unique weapon, one which is imbued with unique properties. They could learn how to do this and when the Dean(s) think they're ready to be actual heroes then he may allow them to forge this special weapon.

I had a doubt, should MQ be involved as well? I understand it'll change how things will happen and might disturb the balance a bit but let me know.

Anyways, Legendium,

I wasn't aware that Thieves were considered to be on the darker side of the Moral Compass. Or was I wrong?

I don't hate the idea of having Necromancy per se, but there's far darker implications to this Dark Art than can be shown on a Academy level. I think DoomKnights use a version of Necromancy to empower themselves. It's more than just raising and commanding the dead.

I am sorry but I am not convinced on this aspect. While VA promotes absolute neutrality, Necromancy is a bit more sensitive issue.

As for Houses, I don't want to name them after elements as that's a bit too cliched. Hm... Perhaps... They can be named after famous VA personalities who believed in a number of set ideologies...?

@TJByrum, we'll have to work on enriching the VA Lore then. There's a lot to go off on, like the old Stadium, the dreaded Vanguard Woods part of which are in-campus while the rest is out of bounds. The best part, there is no wall here so you can't tell. Good Luck escaping The Beast that's rumoured to rule here.

50% of it will be revamped DF and AQ Lore. I'll need help with AQ though, my facts are slightly rusty here.

Classes, I don't think separating them into Sword Types will help as not a lot of people are comfortable with types other than their own. What say?

Magic will be fleshed out more, yes.

And Weapon Forging is a thing. One more thing, while out Hunting, only standard VA Weapons are allowed. Once you are a third year, you can carry your own, self-forged Armeggadon Blade or whatever you'll call it to battle.

Forging allowed only after Second Year.




I think Tutors need some work as well. I am considering fully involving it this time, from the scratch. Any suggestions on this?

Necromancy could also be used to study the afterlife and empower one's self with fallen spirits of their enemies. A Necromancer could summon up much-needed allies to help the heroes. But I get what you mean; even the Empire in TES despised Conjuration.

When I said I had ideas, Art, I wasn't talking abou the plot. Nield kept hold of that and never told me anything. What I had figured out was more lore and stuff. I wanted to sort of give a back ground for that monster you introduced into the RP forever ago that ate your girlfriend or whatever. Basically the academy was built on some ruins, there was a magic alter, people got cool tattoos, and a bunch of other stuff. Like I said, I could PM all the stuff I have on VA's lore that I thought up, because, and I don't want to toot my own horn, it's pretty extensive. :3
