Never said I was the greatest xD BurningRaven is my favourite artist.

Anyway, you really need Flash if you want to help for LoR. I got it for ~$50 (£28.99 in my currency) - which is very reasonable from exisoftware.net. It was a download, not a CD, though.

Hmm, a member of our forums called TreadLight is good with this kind of stuff, so maybe he could help?

You can find his email adress on Boards of Rorept, although I advise PMing him. He uses Paint.net mostly but has some GIMP experience I believe.

To be honest, you aren't going to find a tutorial on "making weapons in GIMP". In fact, you are barely even going to find tutorials on making any sort of drawing-esque thing in gimp. To draw weapons, you need some weapon-drawing talent to begin with, or you need to find weapon-drawing tutorials on your own, which would be hard because it would only give you the basics, and if you want to help in an RPG, you're going to be much more creative than that. After that, you need to learn how to shade the weapons properly, which is probably the hardest part. Making good weapons isn't something you can just decide to do, you need to practice a lot - especially before you apply for a job. Not only that, but GIMP would not work for an RPG because you'd need to convert the .png or .xcf files in to .swf files so that they could work properly in Flash, but that's still not the worst part. If the said RPG has cut scenes like AQ, MQ and DF where they zoom in close on the character, the weapons will get extremely pixelated. So basically, what I'm trying to say is that you aren't going to be able to help people making a Flash RPG using GIMP. At the very least, you're going to need a VECTOR program. So, here are your options for programs that are going to work:
Photoshop (Costs a lot)
Illustrator (Costs a lot, but not as much as PS)
Flash (Already Discussed)
Inkscape (Free, but complex)

So anyway, according to your needs, the only program that would work for you is Inkscape, and that's assuming that you somehow know how to change Inkscape's file type image format to a .swf. So anyway, now you know how hard this is going to be.

wow wow... pie munchies back up there... since when did PS become a VECTOR program ( if u dont consider the shape tools and pen tools)

its kinda hard to draw with those tools... for me at least...

anyways, could u give me the link to INKSCAPE? cuz i wanna see if it is good...

also ultimation, this is how i create my weapons:

- draw basic shape in paint
- i take it to PS and then i colour it/ 3D it and all other fancy things...

to my knowledge, u can do the things listed above in gimp too... but i dont have gimp... so i wouldn't know...

I can help u a lot with this subject.
Things you need-
Pencil and Paper
GIMP (with moderate skill)
Scanner

Step One- Draw the image on paper.
Step Two- Scan it into GIMP
Step Three- Make a new transparent layer on top of the scanned picture
Step Four- Use the paths tool to make the lineart (I suggest This Tutorial if you don't know how to use the paths tool. This tutorial is for people , but it will work just the same with weapons. My tip is to make sure you use a pencil for stroking, not a brush. Use a pencil with the thickness 1.0 for stroking or smaller.
Step Five- After you finish your lineart, delete the scanned in layer and make a duplicate of the lineart. The top layer of lineart has to get it's transparency locked.
Step Six- Color in and shade the weapon on the bottom layer of lineart.
Step Seven- Color in the lines with a darker color than the rest on on the top layer.
Step Eight- Save it twice, one as an .xcf and one as a .png
Step Nine- Pat yourself on the back for a good job, and upload the image.

I have been dying to share this with a fellow GIMPer. Good luck. A couple of tips I can give is that you have to determine a light source for the weapon. Also, I think that you should vectorize the image after you are done with it at This Site Have fun.

PS is a program that can create vector images, therefore, it is a vector program. It does not have all of the vector gadgets that Illustrator does, but it works fine. The definition of a vector, as you probably know is a computerized image that is not pixelized, which makes it infinitely expandable without distorting it. As for Inkscape, Google is your friend.

Actually, involving some of the remarks mentioned above, GIMP can make some quite nice weapons. I've used GIMP myself to make weapons before. It might take time but it can make some really beautiful weapons if you have the drive.

GIMP can vector, but you have to know the controls back to front. I will show you a sword I made from a sketch on GIMP. *Finds*

Magik Sword - I need to fix the white choppy line between the outline and gradients. I think it turned out rather well for a simple vector.
