Prologue

It was a warm and young summer day of rustling green, a time were energy steamed out from the living. The sun radiantly spread its warmth across the land and smiled upon a certain forest. The colors of its leaves did not match the season’s motif, as the leaves and shrubs colors ranged from amber to golden brown to almost actual golden. Despite their autumn colors, the forest was still vibrant, and there were no creatures more lively than the beings playing within it, their Geta's, those type of wooden sandals with base elevated by wooden rectangles and holding the food with Y straps, making bold steps upon the soil.

A mother, who looked younger than she actually was, was observing her children play. The mother was a lean and small figure wearing a Japanese Dress of scarlet and black, with golden trims at the triangle neckline of the kimono, golden cuffs, and golden hems at the end of her long hakama, the pants. The straps of the hakama were knotted into a ribbon on her back. The mother also carried an interesting sight with her. Wrapped about her body was a small Panlong, or Chinese dragon, of Golden scales and jade beady eyes, its head floating above her left shoulder.

The children, a young boy and girl, were very broad in comparison, and were already taller than their mother. They were both wearing the same kind of Japanese outfits with the same color scheme, but the boy wore short black pants that simply covered above the knee, with straps in a simple knot, while the girl had a dress identical to her mother’s, except wide enough to fit her broad body.

The two children were not using their clothes right now though. They were both wearing simple short pants right now, as they were wrestling while their mother observed to make sure it did not went not out of hand . The brother could easily get the sister into a lock, but she could easily slip out an get him into a lock. They were both pretty evenly matched, but eventually the match ended with the boy winning. He was very sweaty as he held his arms up high and laughed out loud in Victory.

“GRAGRAGRAGRAGRA!!! I won, I won! You lose Scar…” His boast was cut short by his sister pushing him while he was unaware.

“It won’t end this way next bro.”

The boy got himself up quickly and confronted her “You Wanna bet ?!”

“As always!” She responded challengingly.

A small clap from the mother stopped them from starting another match. “Abyss, Scarlet, that’s enough, I don’t want you too dirty for when your father arrives. Go now and wash the dirt off, he should be here soon.” Both kids were about to protest, but the mother dismissed them with a hand wave “Go.”

The kids obeyed, and Scarlet proposed they ran to see who arrived at the river first. Abyss grinned and immediately started running as he exclaimed “You are on, sis!”
The mother smiled as Scarlet rushed towards Abyss downhill.

Sometime passed, and the noises of nature, the chirping of the birds and the feral animals roaming about, went silent for no apparent reason. Even the flow of the nearby river seemed to be muffled. The mother raised an eyebrow and looked around, worried. Suddenly she felt the earth shake beneath her, a tremor that gradually increased in intensity. The mother stood up before it got to a point where she would have been unable to.

“Whaaats goooiing ooon?!” She exclaimed as she struggled to keep balance. The Dragon around her slithered his tail to the floor to give the mother some balance, and then he spoke.

“I’m not sure, Redell, but I feel uneasy. You must be feeling it too… There is some sort of power concentrating around this place.”

Redell, the mother, was finally able to compose herself in the tremor. “Scarlet, Abyss! I got to…”

She was not able to complete her sentence. The color scheme of things was suddenly dyed purple. Before you could say breakfast, a rift of swirly purple matter opened right in front of the mother, and it began sucking everything that was not rooted in the ground into itself. Redell was not, and thanks to the still going quake she easily lost her balance. She and the Panlong, were pulled, flying into the ethereal portal. She did not even had time to draw the blade at her side and stick it into the ground, and she was not properly positioned to propel herself away, the rift was too close.

She screamed as she was sucked into the purple mass of energy, and she could hear a thunderous roar behind her. Before Redell was lost into the rift, there was a brief moment were she just sort of floated in the nothing. Apparently someone had grabbed her and was trying to pull her out. It did not last long, however, and she did not even have the opportunity to see who had tried to rescue her. The full force of the rift grabbed her back and drew her in completely. She could see only purple during the whole experience, and then there was darkness.

Chapter I: Waking In Lore

For a long time, all that Redell could see was darkness and feel nothing. She had been drifting in a state between conscious and benumbed for quite a time. Her senses slowly came back, eventually getting the strength to open her eyes and bring herself to a sitting position. She inspected herself and found everything where it should be, except for the Dragon wrapped around her, who was not longer there.

“I must be dreaming” she concluded when she realized she could see herself in the complete darkness: It was black as far as her eyes could see except for her own body and attire. She brought herself to her feet and began walking in the nothing.

She walked, and walked, and walked, no matter the distance traveled, her feet got her nowhere. She tapped the back of her head and closed her eyes, sighing and thinking it would be better to lie down and wait for the empty dream to cease. Just then she began to feel… something. She did not recognize it nor could she infer what it was, she could simply feel a presence, and it made her uneasy. It became stronger as time passed, and it would not go away not matter which direction Redell decided to move. It was always there and coming ever closer. It got to the point where the powerful presence began to take a toll on her physically, as she was beginning to feel like she was being crushed.

“What… is this?” She gasped out, managing to still keep herself standing, her left arm across her chest as she began panting. Fortunately for her, the pain did not last very long. Everything, or should it be said, the nothing, began to shake, and then faded, if total darkness could fade. She heard a voice echoing around her. “Hey, are you alright?”

A male donning a warrior’s armor of color red and with silver trims, the hilt of an ordinary longsword sheathed within a scabbard on the back of a brown pack, held together by straps encircling the backpack, was visible across his right shoulder. He was crouching down and shaking the lying body of Redell. “Hey lady, are you alright?”

Redell opened her eyes. It took a few seconds for her vision to focus, but when it did, her eyes widened with confusion as she saw the male’s face. She immediately sat up and massaged her temple. She looked at the warrior again and inquired “Anata wa oni wa nandes ka”

The male raised an eyebrow, as he did not understood what Redell was trying to say to him, as she had spoken in her native language. Redell blinked and then spoke the same line in a different language, one that the warrior did understand.

"What matter of Creature are you?"

The Warrior raised his eyebrow even higher. “… Err… I am Human?”

Redell closed an eye and gave the male a cursory look. “…Human? I never heard of such a thing…”

Redell was about to accept his hand when she looked at her own while she extended it towards him. She blinked and her expression became utterly lost as she observed. Front and back, her hand was lean, fair skinned and human-like, as were her arms. She quickly stood up and raised her Hakana to see her legs and feet. They were proportionally long and lean to the rest of her body. She was just a bit shorter than the Warrior standing next to her and observing. Redell frantically began to touch all around her face. There was a short and awkward pause before she sprinted away without another word. Her Geta skeeted over the grass at a fast speed until she found what she was looking for. She found a small pond with a waterfall feeding it. She quickly stopped, almost going over the edge, and bent down to look at her reflection. What she saw was the face of a young human female with a long flowing scarlet hair, similar to The Lady’s hairstyle. Her expression in the water was of complete astonishment.

“What in the name of mana is happening?! How…”Redell felt a tap on her back. Combining her shock with the sudden tap made her lose her balance. She fell into the pond without a sound but the ensuing splash.

When Redell’s head emerged back up, she saw the embarrassed form of the male scratching the back of his head with Hero haircut. Before he could speak out an apology, Redell extended her hand towards him. The Warrior helped her out without question. Her figure was dripping wet when she got out and stood in front of the male with a half irritated expression and her hands on her hip.

“Err… here, I think I might have something…”

Redell shook her head as she interrupted the warrior. “No need” she said as she shut her eyes and took a deep calming breath. She brought her right arm up as if she and opened her hand as if she was holding an open book on it. It was obvious she was casting a spell and the Warrior was not surprised about it. Warmth began to emanate from her body. The water soaking her quickly began to dissipate and the drops evaporated before landing, then in a flash Redell and her clothes were wet-free, thought her long hair was now unkempt. She sighed in relief. “I can still do magic. Judging by your expression, this is not uncommon around you, is it?

The Warrior answered “Magic? Not at all. Though I have not seen Pyromancy used so… passively.”

Redell bowed her head “Forgive me for losing it back there. I can explain, but first I must collect my thoughts.”

The Warrior responded “Whatever you need to explain, it had better be on town rather than the middle of Surewould forest. The least I can do is lead you, Ma’am.”

Her face looked expressionless for a second “Please call me Redell. And whom may my escort be?”

“From all the names there are, people simply call me Hero.”

Redell put her hand on her mouth and chuckled “Hehehe, How vain. Very well then, Hero, I do accept you offer… but I realized someone is missing. This is a strange land, so I can’t leave my companion alone. He must be somewhere nearby….”

The Hero drew out his Longsword. “Then still allow me to be your escort. helping other is my job after all, I'll consider it a quest. You must watch your step; there might bandits or monsters lurking about in the forest.”

Redell drew out her Katana elegantly “No need to warn me.”

The two swordwielders left in search of Redell’s companion, her Dragon.
