Character name: Michael Lee

Magic type: Plant-based; able to quickly grow large and tasty fruits, vegetables, wheat, mushrooms, etc. Can also create and control vines to bind or even strangle someone if need be. Has tried to grow a tree before and found that doing so exhausts him for the rest of the day.

Description: Michael Lee is a male aged twenty-one. He has black hair and brown eyes with dark circles underneath. He stands at a height of 5'5'' and weighs 120 pounds. His arms and fingers are bony-thin like a skeleton's and has slight belly fat.
It started in fifth grade. Michael wouldn't talk with or play with anyone at school on the first day at recess. He later opened up to a few kids and things were seemingly fine after.

With middle school came many changes. A new house to move to, new school, new people, block schedules, more than one teacher, and of course no more recess. On the first day, Michael did those traditional questionnaires where you went around asking people what their favorite color was or what pets they have. Or rather, he just sat there and stared at the sheet of paper and ignored anyone who tried to talk to him until they gave up and left him alone.

Michael did make a friend though. A shorter bespectacled male named Chang. Every now and then, someone would ask if they were brothers. Michael talked with Chang and only Chang. He wasn't as comfortable with anyone else and was perceived as being shy.

Michael and Chang went to each other's houses a few times. They had to be driven by their mothers because the distance was too far to walk. Michael even attended Chang's birthday party; the first non-family one ever.

It was at this party that Michael realized that Chang had other friends. Friends who were closer to him than he could ever be.

Chang moved away at the end of sixth grade. He gave Michael the phone number of his new house.

Michael never called. They lost contact after that.
In seventh grade, Michael had a new friend. An obese male by the name of Joshua. In sixth grade, Michael and Chang had gone on a field trip. Joshua also went though he was from a different class. When lunch time came, Joshua had asked Michael if he could borrow some money. This was on account of them riding the same bus so there was some familiarity.

Michael lent him the money with no questions asked. He completely forgot about that and really did not care about being repaid until near the end of sixth grade when Joshua repaid him. Come seventh grade, they began to sit next to each other on the bus.

If there was one flaw them sharing most of their classes, it was that they talked a lot. Their teachers would have to tell them to stop talking. Their grades in class suffered as well.

Like with Chang, Joshua was the only one Michael was comfortable enough to hold conversations with. His shyness was just as bad as the year before.

Michael never did go to Joshua's house unlike Chang. But they did have more opportunities to talk since they rode the same school bus. Joshua did give Michael his phone number but he never called. They were strictly "friends at school".
Years passed, Joshua continued to be his only friend through middle school until the end of high school where he lost contact since they were "school friends". As for academics, Michael almost didn't graduate because his grades were terrible. He was by no means stupid but he would rather play games or surf the Internet than do homework.

The end of high school also came with the end of his slacker ways. Realistically, he couldn't go to college since it would be a repeat of his high school years. So that left him with the option of finding a job. Unfortunately, he had not "grown out of" his shyness. From ninth to twelfth grade, he started to hole himself in his room coming out only for school or shopping. During the summer, he would also lock himself in his room and for months the only people he saw were his family.

Well, it was basically summer all the time with his education having ended for good. Except he didn't really have fun like he used to when he was younger. Now that he was older, Michael finally realized how hard his parents worked to support him and his little brother. He felt guilty and ashamed now for doing poorly in school and for being a lazy good-for-nothing.

And so he read and read stories. When he dreamed, he dreamed of a happier life like in those stories he read. He'd wash dishes, mow the lawn, sweep the floor, mop the floor, anything to be useful and lift some burden off his parents' shoulders.

Sometimes he would lie in bed and think of how his life had come to this point. He'd think about where things went wrong and what a terrible son he was. He'd wish for a better life for his family when he blew out his birthday candles. He'd pray to a god he didn't actually believe in.

One day, he woke up with the power to grow plants. He kept it a secret at first and with practice learned to grow fruits, vegetables, and grains. This miracle made him a bit happier for now he could actually provide for his family.

He had to tell his family of his powers of course. They were surprised but they did not shun him or kick him out or anything dramatic like that. It was decided that Michael's powers were to be a family secret and absolutely no one, not even friends, were to know. The reason for this was likened to not telling people you were rich or you'd be robbed.

Michael became a "farmer" and chef after that. He tended a garden in the backyard and learned to cook from his father.
Personality: Michael is shy and nervous around strangers. Even his family isn't that close to him. But regardless, he does care about them. He was quite depressed and felt bad for being a freeloader before acquiring his powers but now he's happier and opening up a little bit more each day to his family. Still a ways to go before he'll make any friends though.

Forum name: Kkutwar
Character Name: Alison Hammer
Magic Type: Materialization (Can be replicated/intimated by using Spacial Magic and Transmutation); transforms air into physical substances. While theoretically capable of producing complicated objects or even organic life the user needs understanding of how it would work to actually create. Not knowing how to create the desired object either fails outright, doesn't work as intended, or produces a mangled mess. User doesn't need understanding of the components' creation, only how the components go together to make the desired object.
Description: Eighteen year old red head with green eyes, no chest to speak of and a skin tone that gets her frequently classified as Hispanic even by actual Hispanics. Favors long-sleeved clothes that are red, black, white or blue. Is often found wearing a red shirt-jacket with white lines. Was home-schooled and raised solely by her father to, among other things, keep her "pure of society's girly girl brainwashing". Finally got to meet her aunts, paternal grandparents, and cousins at the age of seventeen. Instantly grew to hate them for their "unchanging ways", accusations of her father being a bad parent for defying society, and them trying to convince her of being a girly girl. Mainly spends her time holed up in her room playing video games, watching anime, or using the internet. Had actually discovered her powers several weeks ago but due to staying up and her brain already trying to shut down just assumed the sword summoning was her dream. Truly realized her power six days ago.

I'm not sure who my character will be, but I'm decided on either Alison Hammer (very anti-girly girl tomboy laze-about fighter) or Cornelius Hawking (somewhat unhinged antisocial genius with parental issues). Once I figure out who to use I'll write out their description. I can guarantee neither one will be significantly skilled with Materialization to create minions (not like said minions would obey anyways). If I choose Alison her usage of Materialization will be less technologically advanced and versatile as Cornelius, but makes up with a greater skill in making her imagination real which mainly gets used to make awesome weapons. Cornelius on the other hand uses the imagination aspect to make his concepts real. Though if he gets into a fight he'll summon up something simple like a sword. I'll figure it all out later and explain for whichever one I choose. Though which one do you prefer?

That be a tough question Kkut, both character possibilities have unique potentials with this type of magic and their personalities. Though I'd say go with Alison in terms of personal preference since that will put you a bit more of an even playing field with others. Though if you do want the other character developed/used I'd happily turn them into an NPC. Other than picking which character and answering the location question you good.

Yeah I would go with Alison as I'm not really in a learning mood. Plus I certainly considered Cornelius being a NPC and I haven't refined Alison's Archetype as much as his. Though unless you'll allow me backstage control over all his actions I'll probably just get annoyed and/or go "He wouldn't do that!" so it is for the best I don't let him be an NPC. Though the NPC idea I had for him was him working on refining Materialization in a pitiful attempt to "resurrect" the one person he loved. The ultimate result should be a Humonculus Simulacrum of his lost love (Good Result), a lifeless mass of flesh (Neutral Result), or a rampaging horror ripped from HP Lovecraft (Bad Result). If you want you can use that core motivation for an unrelated concept. My application will be certainly finished (enough) by 5 AM.

kkutwar mentioned this story to me a while ago, and I think I might have a character concept I'd like to try.... However, before posting anything, there are some important questions related to my idea:

1.- Is Magitek (the fusion of magic and technology) possible on this setting?
2.- Would you be adverse to the idea of a Magitek-powered amalgam of Ironman, Robocop and Detonator Orgun?
3.- For that matter, what type(s) of magic would be the most useful to create such combo of cyborg and powered-armor?
4.- Would it be OK for me to write two characters at the same time?

Of course, if one or several of the above conditions don't apply, then there's no point in me posting my idea, because it depends heavily on all of them being fulfilled.

I think the real question you should ask is how long magic has been around. If Necromancy and Transmutation is allowed, then I see no reason why one can't use Magic to augment technology or perhaps even possess Tech Magic. I would guess Metal Magic would be one of the main types involved in making powered armor and cyborgs. Bio-Magic, Transmutation and Necromancy would be handy as well for magitek cyborgs. The Bio-Magic to enhance the body, the Transmutation to actually transform the body, and Necromancy to keep the cyborg alive during the process.

I also don't see any reason for him to deny two characters per player so...

Magic has started coming back to humanity about 4 weeks ago in-game, though that doesn't mean that everyone got their powers at the same time since it's still slow in returning fully. Also Kkut can you answer the question of if you want to start in a town or city?

@Phantom
1. It most certainly is possible but it's attempts would still be in the conceptual stages.
2. Since it's been only 4 weeks in game since the return of magic started then yes I would be.
3. The types would be Necromancy and Healing as well as an understanding of human anatomy and robotics.
4. Not a problem with me if you want to make more than one character.

I do want to keep magic types like Necromancy to a minimum since they have the overt potential to insanely OP and game breaking. You'll still encounter the odd Necromancer or two but they'd be few and far between. There are also cases of naturally occurring undead.

Somewhat isolated mountain home that's on the outskirts of the nearest city to it? Besides that, I would actually figure four weeks being long enough to produce at least a prototype if not a finished model or two. Regarding the insanely OPness of Necromancy does that include manipulating souls or just making undead constructs when they aren't flipping the "Dead or Alive" switch like crazy?

Forum name: Frost Moflin
Character name: Johann Volten
Magic type: Electricity
Description: Johann is that kind of a person who would blast a bread with an artifactally created lightning to warm it up "extra crispy". And he can and has done it. Some people call him a genius, some completly crazy, but most just run away when they get to know him. He is 20 years old, has emerald green eyes, brown messy hair and prefers wearing a labcoat most of the time. He lives at a small house which he filled with random machines, including a small lightning generator. He discovered hsi powers when he accidentally activated one of the machines in his house by just touching it.

Is this okay, and should I add anything?

Regarding this, people don't automatically know that they have magic it or how to use it, so having an untrained Necromancer doing something like could cause very dangerous results. Also finding a Necromancer for such a project would be trying to find a needle in a massive hay-stack as they are few and far between.

On the subject of this, yes. Manipulation of souls is very possible for a Necromancer with a strong enough will. A sufficiently strong willed one can force naturally occurring undead which still have their souls into his/her service, such as but not limited to ghost, specters, etc etc.

Any who, I'll be waiting till this Saturday to do the first update. I am interested in what Frost Moglin and V can come up with, if V is still interested in making a character.

I would actually consider Necromancy to be more of a plus for magitek cyborgs, as the Necromancy would just be there to revive sections of dead flesh or "deactivate" organic bits that are to be removed. You really just need the subject to not die during the process, which a Healer or Transmutater would be there for. Plus, Necromancy & Healing can't be the only magics that can be used. There's always numerous ways to do one thing after all, so anyone interested in magitek cyborgs really just needs to prevent them from dying and make sure all the machinery works. Any form of biological magic and even Metal Magic could be forsaken, since most people/groups likely to make Magitek Cyborgs wouldn't have a lot of people or magical knowledge to work with after all. Plus I would believe at least some people would attempt to make Cyborgs, and there's probably a good deal of people who discovered their magic within the first few days. There's about only four whole weeks a month after all, so...

Though V, what about Celeste or maybe Artemis? Artemis could be a Humonculus someone made, and I'm admittedly interested in seeing Celeste outside of Mecha environments. Humonculi (magically created artificial life) is an acceptable choice of player character right Death?

There are other forms of magic that can be used to make a magitek cyborg, but it all boils down to 1. Knowing your robotics and 2. Human/animal anatomy. Some people would eventually look to make a cyborg at some point but they would likely also be those that would, would also make sure they knew as much as the could about what they could do and have a good control over there powers. Others however could easily vary some learning their powers, other being completely terrified of their new found powers. I know there are exceptions to the first one I said, but you do have to take into account procuring the item needed to do said such magically operation.

Humonculi, if it was a world were magic was already a set well developed thing thing then I'd have no problem with it. But with the setting here, I also have no problem one as people experiment with their magical powers.

Okay, better question: Is there any specific reason you're opposed to cyborgs, or do you just believe no one should have managed to make one in the time-frame given? I would believe Metal Magic would greatly cut down on the time needed once the user got it under control, but eh. Though regarding Humonculi I'm not entirely sure what you're saying. Since Humonculi are magically created life forms anyone with Bio-Magic or Alchemy should be able to make them, so it shouldn't be a matter of "magic setting development".

Speaking of Cyborgs, Humonculi, and Undead how often/likely will our characters encounter beings created/transformed by magic? Also, what exactly makes naturally occurring undead... Naturally occurring? Would vampires count as undead here by the way?

I just don't think it possible to have made a cyborg in the time frame. I don't have a problem with Humonculus for the setting, though it'll have well done enough to fit etc.

They'll encounter creatures like that about as often as one would expect for their area. Cyborgs may or may not pop up later, depending one the turns the game takes, the level of encountering undead is area based. Naturally occurring undead happen because of a strong will in a person/souls it can also be linked to a strong attachment to the living world., normally the only form you'd encounter of these are like ghost but there are a few still in their bodies.

My idea for this cyborg character, is that the project that lead to their creation started prior to the sudden appearance of magic in the world, with it working as a catalyst to accelerate what would have taken months or years. It would start wielding "conventional" weapons, kinda like War-Machine from Ironman's fame, eventually progressing into Magi-Tek based ones... Though, the armor power-source would be of Magi-Tek nature, with it having a power output and capabilities that render it unusable for normal human beings, because it would tear them apart in a matter of seconds. Ergo, why a cyborg was needed to operate it.

Also, the reason why I suggested controlling two characters, was because one of them was the cyborg, and the other the scientist responsible for the project, and the one with the knowledge and experience to create such a being on the first place. Also, I wanted to portray a character that doesn't go all super-angsty and emo about the whole cyborg conversion deal, because that's quite cliched and really annoying after having been done so many times.

But, that's just an idea... If it isn't possible, I think I'd prefer to skip this one; mostly because I don't feel like playing like a X-Men wannabe otherwise.

Nah, I don't think any of them would work on this case. Celeste's lack of powers and affinity for mechas are key qualities of her, and it just isn't the same when you remove them. And about Artemis... If the time frame since the appearance of magic was longer, (half a dozen years, at least) maybe she could work... But otherwise, I'd have to play her as a standard amnesiac heroine, and that's so cliched, that I wouldn't be able to do it without hating every second of it.

Are these Tinkerbell fairies or are they part of the Fair Folk? Cause if they're fair folk then it would probably be safer to help the dragon kill them since its probably justified. Then again, the whole "fairies being chased by a dragon" thing might be a test concocted by someone in-universe. By the way, is this a "magically floats" kind of flying dragon or does it have wings that it uses to fly with? Cause the most likely action Alision would do would be to disable the dragon until she can find out what's going on.
