So if the Overspark is bonded with the soul, I take it the Overspark waits until the soul leaves to return to the source? Though regarding the inanimate objects thing, I was kind of figuring the object would get some sort of Pseudo-Overspark that is devoid of the whole "emotional connection power up" thing. Furthermore, I asked 6 and 11 because I considered using a version of Ryan Dawn Shadowfell (usually he's an angel/demon hybrid, or failing that wields light & darkness powers).

Ryan doesn't (typically) have split personalities (being two actual beings born with one body, like some sort of mental version of a conjoined twin), but the "switch personalities to use different powers" is already in play for his concept anyways. Though the only potential complication for Ryan would be the presence of their mask/weird pseudo-personality thing (the Ryan part) since both personalities simultaneously control/influence it to get a sort of mix of both of them. The Ryan part isn't really alive in most senses, and it exists so the brothers can co-operate instead of waste all their time trying to overpower the other.

Besides that, I have settled on two characters I think would best work here: Justin Parker (Basically all around nice guy loser who can't put in the effort to actually realize/share his grand ideas with others yet has an Overspark that allows him to "hulk out" which has the villain in him come out) and Penelope Geneva (Super friendly genki girl mail ninja that believes in truth, justice, and the Albionian way whose most simple recurring super trait is Mobility [expressed mainly as legit super speed, Wind Manipulation, and Smoke Conduit awesomeness]). Though I still have to decide exactly what Penny's Overspark is, I already got them figured out enough I can submit my application anytime. However I'm not sure which one to use, since they're both character types I want to flesh out so I figured you could just share your opinion on which one you want to see more.

Yep... Though, in case of a "false-positive" originated from a near-death-experience or a resurrection process, (which is highly unlikely to happen, mind you...) the Overspark would temporally abandon its master before returning once it detects they are not dead yet.

And regarding your character... Hmmmmm... Well, I think Penelope would be nice because we don't have a speedster/stealthy-type among the player group. Plus, a courier is always an useful asset, specially given Albion's circumstances and the kind of quests they'll encounter in the near future.

Does Overspark Magic have finite "mana" or can we spam our Oversparks with reckless abandon? Furthermore, I would like to know more information important for a courier character (such as any relations the Albionians formed, any other towns they have, etc). Oh, and how many characters will you allow per player? Cause I really like what I came up with for Justin's Overspark, and I figured he would start as some half-NPC who has yet to develop an Overspark. Oh, I just realized but are there Oversparks capable of dimensional travel/etc?

Name: Penelope Geneva (Though her nickname is Penny Gear)

Age: 16/17/18 (Will decide once Bio is made)

Appearance: (Will decide once Bio is made)

Personality: Penelope is a very cheery and well-intended young person, it almost seems impossible for her to feel negative emotions. (Not done)

Job: Courier

Hobbies: Literally anything entertaining or interesting enough to get her attention will be done.

Skills: (Will decide once Bio is made)

Family and friends: (Will decide once Bio is made, though daddy isn't the best person)

Story so far: (Will make once receiving more information important for a courier, though daddy is important to it)

Personal Objectives: Basically she's really only interested in being happy, getting others to be happy, and being helpful. If asked what she wants to do with her life, she'll list those three things (some variance likely).

Overspark: Basically a super Smoke Dash (Smoke Dash is one of Delsin's abilities) that goes further and is faster. There's also some wind whooshing to push forward her Smoke Form. Alternatively, it can be called the ability to transform into smoke and use the wind to move herself in that state.

Oversparks drain stamina in order to work, but even a relatively puny individual can employ them liberally without fear of running out of fuel after merely 2 or 3 uses. But, be advised that "spamming" exerts a higher level of fatigue than sporadic use. Still, the limit is rather high all things considered, and even if you run out of energy, a good night of sleep is enough to completely replenish it without negative consequences.

Couriers mission is simple, but by no means easy: Deliver messages and packages as quickly and as quietly as possible. They usually work along with scouts during their expeditions in order to learn and chart the routes they use, but once their path has been traced, they prefer to perform their job alone, as a single person attracts less attention than groups. Also because of the abilities they develop, they make good spies and trackers in a pinch.

Right now, Albion's list of allied settlements is rather small, maybe three or four. One of them is a miner colony (which might or might not be inhabited by dwarfs) which trades minerals and miscellaneous reagents for manufactured goods like tools and firearms. I'm not sure about the others... So suggestions about that aspects are actually encouraged.

Hmmmm... By the moment, one (Overspark bearing) character per player. However, as the story develops, I'll allow new characters to be added... As long as your starting character has established bonds with other player characters prior to that. However, you could introduce Justin early on if you please, though he'd be an NPC until further notice.

And no, dimensional travel is beyond an Overspark's capabilities. Just like spontaneous life-creation, resurrection and teleportation, that gift is domain of the gods. Also, another Overspark ability that won't be allowed is Mind Reading, not so much for it being a god's exclusive ability, but because it's a serious Story Breaker power.

So what is the earliest a Overspark can manifest and what are Albion's most desired/needed things they would need to get from others? Besides that, Mind Reading really isn't anything on its own (further useless without actual search and filtering aspects). Regarding Justin, half-NPC basically just means I want full writing for his behavior and actions as an NPC. I don't trust anyone writing for my characters after a couple of events here. Oh, and what do you think of Penny's Overspark?

I think Albion should have contact with most nearby "civil" races. You basically said dwarves, so them; I strongly believe the elves you have extended a olive branch to the fairly helpless human, does depend on the kind of elf though. It all depends on what races you intend to be non-hostile and capable of communicating with the Humans, you already have my intentions for the Lycans.

@kkutwar: Hmmmm... Well, the truth is that new Oversparks manifest whenever I feel it's appropriate for them to do so. Strong bonds with other characters help a lot though, but there are no hard rules to it.

And about Justin... Hmmmmm... Well, I guess that should be fine, as long as I don't see anything that I could interpret as an "exploit". But, if I applied that exception for you, then I'd have to make a similar concession for other players, as it wouldn't be fair to do otherwise. But that would also mean that none of those NPCs would develop Oversparks any time soon... So, are you still OK with that plan?

I'm OK with Penny's Overspark, no complains about it. Even though I have control over everyone's Overspark limits and evolution, I'd like to know about the limits and applications you have in mind for that power, to see if isn't necessary for me to adjust it too much, because right now it sounds mostly fair according to the "basic level" standards.

@Rez: Well, I'm still deciding the details related to it... So, I appreciate the ideas and suggestions. As I've said, I'd like for the players to help with the creation of this world. However, there are some details I have (mostly) defined about Albion's current situation:

-Geartown is located in a relatively secluded area, with any settlement of interest located at a considerable distance away from it. During the first years, they were grateful for that, as they still had that isolationist mentality that compelled them to cut themselves away from the world... But now that they're trying to form alliances with other people, it has proven to be major disadvantage.

-So, right now all Albion's allied cities can only be feasibly reached via their portal network. (the "Labyrinth of Mirrors") I'll explain more about it in a near future, because that's a rather pivotal location.

-One advantage about Geartown's location is that they don't need help from any other settlement in order to satisfy their food demand, as the terrain is well suited for agriculture. That said, because of the erratic climate patterns that sometimes affect the region, there are seasons where the harvests barely manage to cover their needs...

-Other things that aren't in short supply around are numerous kinds of monsters and other nasty critters. Even though they've managed to keep them at bay so far, they become more persistent and dangerous as time goes by, due to some unknown reason. So have even suggested they should look for a better region, but most believe they can keep things under control, specially now that they have the Oversparks to aid them.

-...Also, there might be a secret settlement very close to Geartown's location, and the reason they don't know about it yet, is because its inhabitants don't want to be found.

-I still need to decide what to do with the Elves on this setting, and whether or not they'll be antagonistic to the Albionians... I guess that depends on how much do they know about the great war, because that would make them very wary of people using "lost tech" from that era.

Well in my experience there are two types of elves in the world, the ones who like peace and the ones who pretty much hate everyone. I would have to Assume the elves would know a good deal about the war, especially if they have druids who could commune with the earth. If any survived the war they would know, elves tend to keep records of the centuries.

@Lord_Coake: Yep, just like Rez said. After all, they still have knowledge about how to build those those from the time before the great war, so it's OK for a character to start with one.

By the way, the dwarfs I mentioned before love firearms and big explosions, as one would expect. It was easy to convince them to form an alliance after Albion shared the technologies that make those possible with them. They aren't looking to start a war any time soon, but the region where they live has even worse monsters than those that roam near Geartown, so they like to be prepared for anything. And since they have plenty of raw materials and some noteworthy foundries and workshops near home, they can build some really BIG guns and bombs.

Basically Penny's Overspark only allows her to turn into smoke and manipulate wind enough to sling her smoke form forward for a short burst. She can "defy" gravity when she Air Smoke Dash, and its harder to spam Smoke Dashes in the air due to falling & all that. It would probably help to watch Delsin's Smoke Dash in action to understand. Besides that, regarding potential evolution I wanted her smoke dash to become progressively more controllable to the point she ends up with an endless flight move (until she runs out of stamina of course). In addition to that, I wanted her Overspark to develop primarily regarding her smoke form. So a lot like Delsin's smoke power actually, though almost everything would be done via Smoke Form and she'll be able perform projectile attacks even as she dashes. Oh, and her translation of Cinder Missiles would be to fire parts of her smoke form. That and I imagined her smoke form powers eventually progressing to the point she can split into three streams of smoke.

Besides that, are the Gods the "Works with the whole universe" kind or the "Wait, there are other planets?" kind? Cause I'm wondering if there are other planets, and if any others actually contain life. Speaking of, is there the possibility extraterrestrial life might show up? Oh, and what are all the races the Albionians have encountered/discovered so far? Regarding Elves, I kinda like the version that "means" well but are too rude to non-elves that they come off as insufferable pricks.

Hmmmmm... Yeah, that sounds reasonable, so I think there won't be necessary to make too many adjustments. However, I think that the ability to shot Cinder Missiles would be a combined ability, as having control over both fire and smoke is too complex for a single overspark.

So, in order to accomplish that, I can provide you with an NPC to help you acquire that element. For that matter, there will be a fair share of NPCs for everyone to befriend in order to amplify your powers... but still, player interaction is crucial and heavily encouraged. Anyway, the Fire Overspark user I have in mind isn't quite an orthodox one, (no Hot-Bloodness here, for starters) but I think it's better that way in order for her to remain a secondary character. After all, I don't want to steal anyone's thunder.

And about the gods, well... They're at an intermediate point of the two possibilities you mentioned. They only rule over a fraction of the cosmos, (maybe a solar system, or a quadrant of the galaxy) but they're aware of the existence of other worlds and galaxies. We won't ever see, nor even mention the real "Big Bosses", because they're too otherworldly and powerful to even be conceived by mortals... Besides, they're not important for the events of this story, and they're busy doing things on a far greater scale.

Regarding aliens... Well, that's a possibility I didn't consider until you just mentioned it... But, now that you did, I think it could be feasible, but it'd have to wait until we finish the first few "quests", otherwise things would be extremely confusing and convoluted right off the bat. I'd prefer to introduce the characters to the world with something more "accessible" before going for the most outlandish stuff. And that leads me to your next question...

So far, what they've encountered are your standard high-fantasy races, like dwarfs, elves, halflings, goblins, giants, etc. However, even those are not exactly like one would expect them to be. For example, the goblins aren't actually villainous; they're highly curious and surprisingly resourceful creatures that like to mess around with stuff. They have uncovered a fair share of "lost tech" that they like to take apart in order to see how it works, and then try to reassemble it back... With mixed results. That said, they're developing a certain talent for reverse engineering, and they're creating their own versions of lost inventions and trinkets, like steam-powered boats and flying machines. And despite explosions being a common occurrence when you're around them, they aren't as fond of wanton destruction and weapons as the dwarfs, instead preferring to focus on tech with applications for the "common folk". (though, they also like to create weird and bizarre stuff from time to time, mostly to test the limits of their own ingenuity)

But, as the story progresses, more strange and unique races will appear... But you'll have to stick around in order to see them. However, another of the staples you're sure to encounter are the "tree people"; mostly because they're awesome and I can never get enough of them. (they're one of my all-time favorite fantasy-races)

I actually don't see the need for a Fire Overspark to get involved, as I could easily see the Cinder Missiles simply being condensed balls of smoke being hurled at rapid speeds. Though, speaking of... Justin's Overspark is pretty much a instant armor/Ghost Ridery ability composed of fire and darkness. The fire half is the offensive part and is the top half, while the darkness half is the inner part and the defensive part. I see it eventually evolving to the point he can manipulate the composition and size/shape. Also Justin's "title" (I use them as a basis of the entire character concept) is The Chained Devil, and thus his elements are typically demonic ones like Fire & Darkness.

Now that I think about it, are Oversparks allowed to have an effect on the user's mind as its used? Cause typically Justin's powers either come with an evil side or an evil side is born because of the powers. Okay, another question: Did Sibylle slowly and carefully craft every Overspark, or did she just program them with a specific function before tossing them into the world to develop unpredictably? Furthermore, what exactly is an Overspark? Is it something like a soul, some sort of magical lifeform, what?

Oh, and is there a possibility that other sources of power may show up? In addition, can Oversparks be used to renew/revive/etc Etherian and can Etherian Magic be used to augment Overspark powers? I would also like to know if the Albionians ever developed technology to manipulate/etc emotions, such as devices to "drain"/prevent negative emotions such as hatred or sadness.

Nope, that's just not possible without the involvement of another Overspark. Even as an Overspark's "basic function" becomes more powerful and refined, they can never reach Swiss Army Superpower levels of versatility, they need other Oversparks in order to make their options more diverse.

And no, Oversparks don't have any kind of negative nor positive effects on their users psyche... If they ever get "corrupted" by them, that's merely because they were "drunk-with-power" after exploiting them a bit too much. Also, Sibylle doesn't have the patience to personally tailor each and every single one of the Oversparks. The most accurate analogy I could make, is that she "wrote" a "computer program" (no computers are involved, it's just an facsimile I'm using for simplicity's sake) that follows certain parameters and restrictions, (it prevents "duplicate" Oversparks from being generated, for example) and then set it loose into the world to propagate, evolve and flourish on its own. Regarding what Oversparks really are... They're a gift... Let's leave it like that by the moment, because unraveling their true nature might a plot point in the future.

Regarding other power sources... Well, there will be was to strengthen yourself beyond evolving your Overspark. For example, after completing one of the upcoming quests, players will have the option to become a certain class of supernatural creature. But, be aware that all these methods will usually carry benefits, but also disadvantages. Oversparks are the main focus after all, and I'd like to keep it that way. And no, Etherian magic doesn't interact with it... They don't oppose each other, but they won't help one another either. And while it's possible to use them both at the same time in order to create some "combined effects", overall, this is highly impractical because how unpredictable Etherian magic is. Not even I know how it'll work, as I'll perform a dice roll each time it's used in order to determine its outcome. And no, Albion never developed machines nor technology capable of altering emotions... They never considered that would ever be important. Besides, most considered it to be a highly intrusive and manipulative tech; for all their "sins" and deliriums of grandeur, there were a lot of lines they never dared to cross...

Tree-People? are they ents or something else? Anyway I was thinking Crysala should get an overspark, you did say they were ''contagious'' in some way, but I am also aware of the bonus that it is supposed to give, so I'll leave it to you when it happens; if at all.

@Lord Coake: It is possible, yes... Though, I'd like to hear what you have in mind, since those kind of powers have the tendency to be either disproportionately good for their level, or extremely dangerous for their user and those around... With the later being the possibly that worries me the most, because Oversparks are meant to be beneficial for their user under most circumstances.

@Rez: Yep, they'd be more or less like the Ents. And yes, Crysala will eventually develop an Overspark, as it would be extremely odd if she didn't. Best friends and significant-others are the ones most likely to awaken an Overspark as time goes on.

Does the "prevent duplicate" program also count for Oversparks that are only slightly different from another? Cause given enough time all possible Oversparks would be made, and you're already denied several possible outcomes thus limiting their possibilities a great deal. Though technically wouldn't the purely smoke Cinder Missiles count as an evolution of her Overspark than an application already present? She's literally only capable of turning into smoke and using wind to push herself forward right now, while Swiss Army Superpower is "The base rules do not change." I suppose she possibly could control where the wind hits and the area of it, but that would just be harmless chucks of smoke hitting people. Besides that, I would actually see a Wind or Telekinetic Overspark as being more helpful to developing Cinder Missiles than a Fire Overspark since the Cinder Missiles would be compacted chucks of smoke. Though a Fire Overspark I see being required to develop a perfect replica of Delsin's smoke bolt.

Besides that, I'm starting to think Penny won't work here. The intended backstory for her had her father raise her as a courier due to her Overspark showing up at a young age, and that he raises her to practically be without negative emotions so it wouldn't distract her. I asked about the emotion tech since her father would probably use something like that if possible so as to make her literally incapable of negative emotions. Though now I'm really not sure what to do with her backstory since its unlikely she would have manifested her Overspark anywhere between eight and twelve. What I do have would probably work better as a half-NPC.

Though now I kind of want to play as Hal, whose job would probably be some sort of official adventurer. His Overspark would be Earth based, and while a nice guy he isn't big on socializing thus putting him at a disadvantage. However Hals are typically "Weak but Skilled", so he would utilize his Overspark to the best of his abilities. So would it be alright if I start off using Hal and have Penny as a half-NPC instead of Justin?

Don't worry about that. It would take an unreasonable amount of time for that pool of powers to dry out considering the relatively low amount of people that posses them, and the rate at which they'd be able to establish strong bonds with others. And, as I've mentioned previously, even Oversparks with a common element have completely different sets of powers and applications. And speaking of which, you have to remember that the "basic level" is extremely limited when it comes to variety of applications, so anything that I deem too complex would need a combination in order to be possible. And yes, channeling compressed spoke projectiles is too advanced if the Smoke Dash is the base. However, something that could be possible on the basic level would be "granting" the Smoke Dash to another object or person in order to displace it. Dropping a big rock unto something/someone might not be as stylish, but it could be rather useful if used properly.

And well, since we haven't started yet, it's OK to change your main character right now... But, try to do it fast, because I want to start as soon as possible. Time is of the utmost importance, because I don't know how much of it I have before another crisis.

Well I suppose the base is more "turn into smoke and also control wind to a very limited extent" than "smoke dash". "Granting" smoke dashes actually works for the system I worked out for an inFamous A&R so... Besides that, I'll send a PM sometime later regarding Half-NPC Penny. By the way, will you allow players to kill each other's characters? Just want to make sure I don't have to fear the others once the game starts. I would also like to know if Albion ever developed enterainment things like television, movies, comics, games, etc and if they would have access to any of that now.

Name: Hal Harrington

Age: Twenty-four

Appearance: Light brown skin, darkish brown hair, brown eyes, six foot three, muscular, short unkempt hair, and worn out clothes.

Personality: To most people he comes off as calm, quiet, and antisocial. In actuality he prefers to avoid others so he won't become distracted, or distanced from his sister. Furthermore, while he is usually calm he's also easily provoked by injustice and will interfere anywhere from giving his two cents to forcefully solving the injustice. He'll also become increasingly agitated the longer he doesn't interfere, and will eventually flip out. Besides this, he usually reserves his words only until he needs them and doesn't share his feelings with others. The only person he freely interacts with is his younger sister.

Job: Adventurer (Basically does any random thing Albion needs done, but primarily exploration and monster killing) and Various Earth/Construction/Deconstruction things (Such as mining, creating constructs, homes, etc)

Hobbies: Deep thought, the occasional philological moment, exploration, creating art with his power.

Skills: ??? (I suppose you can decide)

Family and friends: Alice Harrington (Eight year old sister),

Story so far:

Personal Objectives: To help Albion become the best it can be, primarily for his little sister.

Overspark: Terrakinesis, the ability to exert telekinetic control over ground materials. This power grants its user control over the very ground under him, allowing Hal to extract chunks of it to create a variety of effects. While this ability allows control over most types of soils and minerals, it has a harder time manipulating “processed” materials, (like forged metals and alloys) and elements within living creatures, though it's possible to exert limited control over them with a strong will and concentration.

Overspark Skills:

*Level 1 - Shard Manipulation. At this level, Hal can manipulate a limited quantity of earthen materials (approximately 1 cubic meter / 35 cubic feet) within a 2 meters (7 feet) radius around him. Within this “field of action”, he has nigh-absolute control over it, allowing him to levitate it, shape it, divide it and compress it in a variety of different ways. While he can't control elements beyond his action zone, he launch “shards” of compressed material from it with enough force for them to become powerful “missiles” capable of piercing certain types of armor with surprising ease.

Do I need to write up his bio right now? All I got so far is "Became an adventurer so little sister can grow up in a safer and better world". I would probably say his parents are either dead or missing, thus leaving him to raise Alice (finalized name pending) for the eight years of her life on his own. I would also suppose he often accompanies couriers, so Penny is probably either the closest he has to a friend or intent on making him smile since she finds gloominess weird.

Nope, player characters aren't allowed to kill each other... Unless both of them agree prior to it happening. After all, if someone really wants to his/her character killed for one reason or another, that's fine by me. Overall, you're allowed to be as villainous as you'd like... But you have to be SMART about it (manipulative, cunning, and discreet above everything), otherwise your character won't last very long. Killing Albion's denizens on broad daylight is heavily frowned upon, and it will only incur the wrath of people way more powerful than you, because petty psychopaths like that aren't likely to have developed their Overspark beyond the basic level.

And about Albion's pop-culture... Well, there might be some of it, but most proof of its existence lie within the devastated ruins of Neo-Albion. Right now, they're a bit too busy with survival to try to develop a new one, but some of those stories are still told to children as spoken tales (or books, if you're lucky) for the most part. Board games (including different kinds of card based ones) are still played, though, mostly because they're easy to play without complicated equipment.

About the bio... Hmmmmm... Well, you can write the basics and complete it later, just remember to inform me when you do so. However, I'd like to know a bit more about Hal's sister, as that info will be important to me once the story starts.

Well, since the only way to enter the city is via one of the portals connecting to it, very few people besides the Albionians has ever set a foot on it. That said, most of the "good stuff" has already been scavenged by its own inhabitants, it's ruined beyond repair, or locked inside some rather hard to enter buildings. But, if you look hard enough, it would be possible to find some "treasure" someone lost inside of it... You just have to do it fast, because the atmosphere inside of the city is rather heavy; not outright lethal, but the oxygen levels are substantially reduced, and there are some mildly hazardous chemicals on the air. A breather device is necessary to explore with relative safety.

That said, the real value inside the city is the portal network itself, as a savvy person would be able to use it to extend their domains beyond what they would be able to otherwise... But, that's a story for another occasion... And maybe part of a future quest.

Question, is Etherian (preferably stable) capable of such feats normally associated with gods or is it more of a wonder material that can do a couple of neat things? Furthermore, is all the Etherian in the world decayed or is there the rare deposit of stable Etherian?
