I'll throw out some spells without referencing classes specifically.

Healing well: Creates a temporary well of healing light, mending the wounds of anybody who touches it.

Necromantic golem: Create a behemoth of unholy power, it grows stronger the more undead beings you merge into it.

Seal: Damages summoned creatures or confuses an enemy mage for a short while.

Smoke cloud: Cloud of blinding smoke which can be released after casting enough fire based spells.

Encroaching darkness: Gives shadows around you a form, causing them to attack your opponents.

Berserk: Target loses ability to cast spells temporarily, but their physical combat abilities are greatly augmented.

Defile: Unholy spell that causes a recently deceased corpse to come back as a maddened spectre under your control.

Survey: Earth magic that surveys the ground below you, also granting you a piece of valuable ore if any are to be found.

Animate weapon: Causes a weapon in your vicinity to animate itself and start fighting for you.

Also, how are special classes unlocked? Special training schools? Sorry if I missed it.

@^ Special classes are unlocked at pretty much any large magical school. Same with most of the advanced classes. There is one class that can only be unlocked in one specific city.

@Megakyle: Yeah, that would work. The result would be much like a more powerful Red Mage, but sure. I was kind of hoping that people who try Dual Mage would use a special class, as they can only use their special spells.

Well, you said we can't start off with the Special or Avanced Classes. Otherwise I'd have picked Healer/Nosferatu. My plan was to start off with the healer and a class I could use, then get Nosferatu later.

No, you can start with special classes. I think. You can't start with advanced because of level restrictions. If you did, you wouldn't be able to use it. I don't recall restricting the availability of special classes. Technically, you could start as a Healer/Nosferatu Dual Mage, but you would only be able to use healing spells until you reach the level required for advanced classes, after which you would be able to use spells Nosferatu can use.

Hrrrrm... can you give me a idea of what summons you can use as a Summoner and how summoning works? I may go Summoner/Healer combo in that case. And can I heal summons if I do so?

Also, I'm gonna suggest some Summon Spells in that case:

Summon Elemental (various elementsl: Summons a elemental.

Summon Dragon Spirit: Sumon spirit dragon.

Summon Water being:

Synchronization: Okay, sort of stole the name from DF. Basically, you call the summon into yourself and gain powers related to it. When synched you have combat and non combat abilities EG a water synch can allow you to breathe underwater until the summon ends, and command the flow of water to a degree, or a lightning or fire synch can allow you to light up a area or power something. As for combat abilities, generally they depend on the summon. If the summon is a hand to hand fire guy, you can user hand to hand fire combat, whereas if he breathes fire like a dragon you can send out fire like a flamethrower. It gives you a boost to pretty much everything or whatever is needed to make it more effective then the summon.

Sure. Special spells are level-locked, which means you are forced to get certain spells when you level up rather than choose out of a bunch every few levels.

Basically, you can summon anything that exists, has existed, or will exist, as long as you know what it is. That means libraries are one of the most useful things ever. That also means summoning from the future is confusing to say the least. You are not summoning the actual thing most of the time, merely a form or copy. (If summoners did summon the real thing most of the time, certain creatures would almost always be unavailable). Summons can be healed, but how long they stay depends on how much mana you are willing to put in the spell.

For example, the minimum cost for summoning an elemental is, let's say five. This will be enough to have the summon stay for five minutes. If you put an additional five mana, you get another five minutes.
And lets say the minimum mana cost for summoning a dragon is 50. That means it cost fifty mana to summon a dragon for five minutes. If you put in another five mana, you get only a bonus six seconds, while another 50 will get you another five minutes. Though it is preferable that you spend however much mana you want to spend when casting, you can still add mana to the spell after it has been cast.

I'm curious about the shapeshifter; how will it work?
To what degree would shifting be limited? Would you have to study a creature before being able to morph into it?

Shapshifter gets a few set spells, earning more by levelling up. Most of the limits are mana. There is a size concern, but that just means that if you are in a building, you cannot shift into something larger than the available space. Some of the spells are "free", while if you want to shape shift into something you don't have a spell for, you need to know the basics of what it is. Of course, you could shape shift different parts of your body rather than the whole thing, like having dragon wings rather than becoming completely dragon. Any "freeform" spells will either require more mana, or require the character to write down in a sort of spell book.

Hey, I was thinking. I sort of want to be a Shapeshifter Healer, but it's a special advanced class. Would it be possible to make it a special class and have a new advanced class instead to keep it balenced? I mean Shapeshifting is probably a powerful magic I admit, but I just want to be able to use it from the off along with healer which admittedly is pretty selfish.

Also, gonna suggest some Shapeshifting Spells:

Dravir transformation: Turn in to a half human half dragon. Can breathe fire in either flames or balls, can fly for as long as the transformation lasts , and has excellent hand to hand and battle hardened capabilities.

Eagle Transformation: Turn into a eagle. Can fly, strike with talons and see far.

Shark Transformation, Turn into a shark. Can breathe underwater and swim fast.

Random Transformation: Low level spell and the first you learn as a Shapreshifter. Very Low mana and cast time, can turn you into a random thing. Sometimes this can be advantageous like a Dravir for a really low cost. Sometimes it backfires, like turning you into a shark on land. Generally used when low on mana.

I have a few questions.
By freeform, do you mean a shifter could become a creature out of their imagination, if they had an acceptable picture of how it would work?
Would transformations have a mana upkeep like the elemental summoning example?
If so, coud another mage pay the mana cost for you by using their own?

By freeform, I mean the shifter can have parts if their body turn into different parts of animals and creatures they can transform into. I suppose it might be possible for them to transform into whatever they can imagine, as long as it fits the limitation of the spell. For example, the starting shifter spell is basically "turn into a non-magical creature that would fit in a 3-foot cubic box for five minutes"

Yes, there would be a similar relation between duration and mana expenditure, however the shifter would have to apply the mana before transforming rather than spend it during transformation. Also, the ration to extending and casting costs would be different.

If the other mage had a sort of mana transfer spell, yes, that would work.

Did I label Shapeshifting as an advanced class as well as a special one? If I did, there would be a reason for it. If it's just a special class, then you can use it right away, if it's advanced, it probably means most of the spells would require a good deal of mana, and there are reasons for that.

Satellite: Cosmic spell that makes a celestial body descend down over the battlefield and aid the caster by shooting down meteorites on your enemy.

Timebolt: Magic bolt that ages debilitatingly the affected target.

Cosmic devastation: Creates a gravitic orb of such mass that it attracts anything near it, even the ground itself. Caster is unaffected by the pull.

Cosmic bolt: A bolt that has a random effect, either it messes up gravity near the target or it causes a raging supernova fire.

Power release: Add a proportional health cost alongside the normal mana ine to power up the following spells. Can be deactivated at will.

Apocalypse: Calls down a gigantic meteorite that pulverizes anything in a huge area. The caster is affected as much as enemies.

Had a bit of a cosmic inspiration there.
