I was wondering if a rep system could be added into the forums. I know this might probably clutter up your database so maybe the rep system is only available for those that have a certain number of posts? (50 for example)

This is because several times I have encountered in the forums bad tips and information. It would be a lot better if I can find out how credible a person is by having a simple rep system. Maybe something like EpicDuel's "Fame" system. But instead of that, it would be "Reputation" This makes it much easier to judge how much I can trust one's information. It is also a common system used by many other forum sites so I thin that it should be no problem for coders to implement them

There was such a system long ago on the forums and it was removed due to the unbelievable amount of spam it created.

If you run into some incorrect tips and advice, that would be a good occasion to post your own advice, adequately backed up by the correct information, and politely pointing out inaccuracies.

Adding to what Elryn has said, it can also tend to make things into a 'popularity contest', so the most popular people get the most rep, as opposed to the best answers.

I see... but wouldn't this surge for popularity also cause others to spur to make proper answers? Maybe make a down rep system too for spammy behavior and only allow down repping and up repping after one has gained a certain amount of rep

It's far too easy to bypass a system like that (as it was years ago). In addition, something like that would create ascendancy between those who have a higher reputation to those who do not. We wouldn't have removed the system years ago if it actually worked.

For now, the title system works perfectly in giving helpful/friendly/constructive forumites the recognition they deserve. If someone has the "Helpful" title and frequents the Q&A, you can assume that he/she is knowledgeable in the respective board. Not to say that those who do not have titles aren't helpful, but those who excel above the rest and almost always rewarded for it.

I see, I actually have not seen a single player given that title before. Not to say that they do not exist of course, I am sure they do.

I was a "Helpful" before I became an AK (as were many of the other AKs and forum moderators). I don't know about ED boards, but there are at least a couple floating around the AQ boards.

*clarification added*

@The Forgotten: When he mentioned ED, he referred to the Fame System that's currently in function in the game. By accessing a player's character page, you can give 1 fame per day. After reaching a certain amount of fame, you're given an achievement that keeps upgrading after you reach other rank of the necessary amount to upgrade.
Clarifying since you may have misunderstood that he hasn't seen any "HelpFul" titles around the ED forums but I can confirm that there have been several of the players who got them who became AKs just as you.

If you had like to know more about the Fame System of ED, please refer here: Fame

I'm aware that such a functionality exists in ED, and that he was suggesting that a similar such system be implemented in the forums. ... which wouldn't really work.

I have a few friends AKing the ED boards, and I have no doubt that there are helpful (both titled and otherwise) users in that section of the boards--I just don't frequent them enough to be able to say "aha! User X is a Helpful! who posts frequently EDGD."

You can find all the info regarding titles and ranks here: Forum ranks, groups, and titles.
It has been stated why a fame/reputation system will not come to the forums so further discussion towards it is not needed.
