How visual does the "speech" needs to be?

I was around the forums but I forgot to post here. So a couple of things:

1. Congratz to Lupus for winning July's contest!

2. Great thanks to those seven people who voted for me! You folks are awesome! Thanks for your support!

3. I've been working on August entry. Not sure I will complete the coloring by tomorrow evening though. I decided to go with archeological theme this time.

 Well entered this contest for the first time... just did a quick sketch, since I dont have much spare time, and because Im still getting used to digi-art. The elements were quite thematic, and the I kinda jotted down the first thing that came to my mind... crossroads, an eye... well, reminded me of certain beings in greek mythos. This is my depiction of when only on of those sisters remains....

Since they were <> by Perseus for directions, that sorta inspired me to create the directions, and the ceremonial fountain is how I depict the action as well (originally I intended to create carvings that depicted the Kraken after Andromeda and it would fit the theme to the fountain as well, the common element being water, but I didnt have the time to create something so intricate.

Finally, the eye... so that no one tricks her again, she now wears it on an amulet around her...

Wait, am I supposed to describe my work.. or??

Since I post mine on deviantart, I include a description there. Especially if the elements' inclusion could be considered a stretch. I like reading the artists' descriptions because they often tell a really cool story. Otherwise you just get a picture full of random elements.

I like yours a lot, ss2195. Your description caused me to go back and spend more time looking at it. For example, the fish on the fountain was a detail I missed the first time I saw the picture. And incorporating the fountain with the weathervane was an awesome idea, one that I wish I had thought of before. Out of curiosity, why are her hands bandaged?

I lupus's too. It's nicely drawn and includes a creepy element (Eating a human eye? *shiver*). I'm curious about the letters on the blocks. Clearly, the "L" is supposed to be there, but what about the "C" and the "E"? Again, nice work on combining the cardinal directions with the fountain. I spent forever trying to figure out where to put a fountain on mine. I'd love to read a description or story behind this one.

I am very curious to know the story behind Skyflakes's entry. Why is there a giant "L" that is not only alive, but eating a compass rose? Is it an alien? Is there a symbolic meaning attached to this act of eating? I like art that makes me think; good job.

I'm impressed by everyone who's submitted something so far. I hope other people participate. :)

Last of the Grey: it has a good title and it is a great artwork (nice fountain!) which impressed me. You have a good idea of creating the mage-like girl.
