The IC thread is up.

The traitor has been notified by PM, including the particulars of that position.

As a note, all of the allied commanders are generally acquainted with the individual forces making up the Alliance.

In order to keep things moving, we'll consider this the start of the first round. The traitor will not act in the first round. You have until next Monday (11/3) to make your post. If this time frame is too restrictive, please contact me via PM, or on IRC, I'll be in #rpboards as much as I can. Your post should detail whatever preparations you wish to make, and then anything you wish to say in the war council. You guys can discuss and vote on the various plans proposed here in the OOC.

Yes, per my previous notes, I'm still accepting applications. However, "late" applications (that is, applications after the RP has stated) will be subject to starting fatigue and morale penalties. This is because the commander and his/her force are late to the battle, and thus will be forcing marches to make up time.

May start working on a post after I get off work. But like I said, I want to revise and rewrite it.

EDIT: I'd figure my first post will detail some characterization of my characters and some preparation of my forces, while my second post will begin with meeting the other commanders to finalize the strategy.

Finally, my bio is here. I hope it is up to standards.

Name: Reynard Naise
Age: 38
Affiliation: Kingdom of Vorfather

Appearance: Reynard is a middle-aged man who stands at a height of 6 feet. He has a tanned complexion and plain brown eyes that have nothing unusual about them. He has brown collar-length hair that he keeps loose. He has a handsome face with high-set cheekbones and a beak-shaped nose. A stubble on his chin is all the facial hair he has. He wears a couple of earrings on his right ear.

Weighing a reasonable 78 kilos, Reynard has a balanced build with a well-toned torso on strongly-built legs. His build complements his fighting style that is a play between speed and endurance.

Reynard wears a plain steel and cloth armor on the battlefield accompanied by a light steel helm which facilitates the maximum range of vision while ensuring protection from most blows. He further wears a thick fur overcoat on top of his armor as he is accustomed to the infamous Vorfatherian winters which can drive even the toughest men to shiver.

Being a proficient archer, Reynard wears an oaken longbow fitted with a grip made out of a metal known as Devvokzae('k' being silent here) or Steelsway. This metal is extremely durable(and ductile) and ensures that the bow stays joint. Some parts of the bow are laced with this metal to avoid rotting due to moisture for when snow thaws over this weapon. The bowstring is made of polished Steelsway drawn into extreme fineness. A quiver further adorns Reynard's back.

On his waist, Reynard wears his arming sword in its plain leather sheath for when things get too close for comfort. His skill with a blade is fairly average.

History: Reynard has always been a very good leader and has on numerous occasions displayed his skills both as a general and a warrior on the battlefield. As a kid however, things weren't always looking up. He used be bullied quite frequently by bigger kids and even as a soldier in the Vorfatherian Legion, the seniors would gang up on him and threaten him. It was, however, his very skills that saved the Kingdom from falling to foreign hands when the rival Kingdom of Aneros hosted an invasion and broke through the gates of the capital city.

Taking a handful of archers at his disposal, Reynard held back a secondary wave that had managed to discover a Postern Gate and had infiltrated the city deceiving its defenses. In the dead of the night, even as the city burnt at some parts, Vorfather stood, having survived a freak invasion. Having acknowledged Reynard's contribution to the Legion's success, the then king, Athur Vesfloren, bestowed upon him much praise and it was not long after that that this young man stood as the General of the Vorfatherian Legion.

Having just captured a major Anerosian outpost, Reynard was informed of the situation at Gripclaw Pass and assembling his best men, he set out.

Command:

Reynard has at his disposal a fair few number of men. Firstly, his second-in-command, Trey Sverfost, an excellent swordsman accompanies him to Gripclaw Pass. His platoon of soldiers consists of 6 Personal Guards who are also the 6 best warriors of all. This team of 6 consists of 2 highly-skilled swordsmen, 2 stealth specialists who double up as scouts and 2 archers.

Further, there are 20 more archers personally handpicked by Reynard himself followed by 15 of the better swordsmen personally mentored by Trey.

Lastly, aiding this group are 4 of the best healers and 10 Horsemen who can fight using both swords and bows.

Vorfather: Vorfather is a sprawling kingdom located towards the northern reaches right at the foot of mountains where the winter strikes the hardest. Vorfather has a two main routes entering into it from the south and one from the east following the slopes. With a lush forest surrounding it, which greatly boosts the status of the lumber industry and a multitude of iron and Steelsway mines surrounding it, Vorfather is one of the richer kingdoms of the continent with a better economic status than most others. Vorfather's citizens are heavily employed in the lumber and trading industry.

Quick question Kellehendros, will there be any night attacks/watch in this RP? Weatherly effect before/during/after battle phases? And will animal-like distractions take place?

I want to condense this for myself, but it is also here for reference for anyone else:

quote:

I'll be using Enric, as listed above in the examples. Depending on how many people we get, I may add a few more NPCs to the roster to fill things out a bit.

quote:

Domrius' forces are going to be pretty heterogeneous. The best example would be something akin to the Persian forces from 300. There's an army, but it's made of up many parts drawn from different places under Alquen's control.

quote:

TJ, I was looking for somewhere around a thousand, but I can adjust enemy numbers to deal with less player forces. It isn't a massive concern.

So far as the levels are concerned, for now I will only say that there are seven morale levels, starting at Fanatical and ending at Shattered. Units with lower morale are prone to breaking, collapsing and fleeing the field rather than heeding a commander's orders. A commander can rally a broken unit, but it will take effort to convince them to get back into the fight.

There are six fatigue levels, starting at Rested and ending at Exhausted. Units at the lower levels of fatigue will experience higher casualty rates.

quote:

TJ, I'll refer you to the Combat section of the first post for details concerning how fatigue is handled.

The alliance camp is at the western throat of the pass, giving the allies an advantage from the terrain, insofar as they are already in the pass, which will limit how many Alquen forces can attack them at once. The Alquen forces will be marching in day by day, using a string of camps on the way up the trail to the pass, and may eventually set up a camp at the eastern end of the pass, assuming they can force the allies back long enough to do so.

The season is spring, so the weather will be fair, with the occasional rain storm. Rock-slides originate from both slopes, though the deadlier ones tend to come from the northern mountain, given its sheer nature. Climbing the northern slope is possible, though it would require mountaineering gear. As for summiting the mountain, it would take a climbing team a day or so to reach the peak.

The Gripclaw Pass itself winds for about six miles from one end of the road to the other. Space is unlikely to be a concern for the alliance.

EDIT: Also, I am working on a post, but I don't think it will be finished until late tomorrow (at the earliest) or probably later.

That, Draycos, is part of the surprise.

Arthur, accepted. You'll be late to the party, and show up once the battle itself has started.

I'm almost finished with my post as well.

One question: how do you want us to go about making our recommendations, Kell? Shall we state our intentions in thought, and wait to discuss it here in OOC? Or directly state what we are saying in turn, then deliberate in OOC afterwards? Will we be making a collaborative post at any point?

Just a very brief, quick note Kell.

I'll try to have a post written up tonight, And i might be able to ship it off tomorrow morning.

But as you may have known previously. I have a major 3rd project for my digital design studio class that is absolutely due tomorrow afternoon.

I'm concentrating a bulk of my abilities on it currently. I'm about 3 quarters done with it. I need to just do like. 2, maybe 3 more things tops and i'm done.

Zeph, the idea I'm working on at this point is to have your commander state his/her vision for how the defense will be laid out, with what units on the line and what units in reserve, etc. Your deliberations and selections can be handled in the OOC. Once you guys have reached a majority decision, I'll start that round of combat detailing the plan you guys went with, and opening the battle. If you'd like to work with another player on a collaborative post, that's fine, but I would like to see any collaborative effort before it is finalized IC for a combat round.

OK, that makes sense. Thanks.

I guess we'll just base the setting on what the first person to post writes.

For handing the language of Je, I'll keep it translated while one of my characters are alone or with other citizen of Je. Once they are in front of others or when I believe they are in hearing range of other characters, I'll write in the way it should look and sound to the other characters if they happen to lapse back to their native tongue and have the translated part in the OOC. Is this fine with you Kellehendros? If anyone needs help matching the untranslated post with the translated post I'll link the translated to it's match.

Zeph, the commanders will meet in a command tent behind the allied lines. The tend it self is unremarkable, though it features a large table with a map of the pass.

Draycos, however you want to handle the matter is fine.

I've posted, and I am satisfied except for the ending. Whatever the case, the Varan are preparing for the coming battle and both Koros and Volrun will be at the strategy tent.

OK, so nobody else has done what you said - or at least what I thought you said. Now I'm really confused. Sorry to be a pain, but please just tell me what you want at the end of our posts.

Also, Kell, I'd like to request permission to change a small part of my bio. I wrote that Sayden would have the role on the battlefield of physically directing the spells of his men. However, I now think that that was ill-considered. It takes a lot of the strategy out of it and opens up the potential for godmodding. If I may, I'd like to remove that part, so that Sayden only acts as a commander, and the divisions direct their spells themselves depending on their sphere of influence on the battlefield. I think that'll make positioning rightfully important, and make my troops acts a little more as part of the whole.

That's correct, Zeph. So far no one has followed the request I made at the beginning of the page. I was ambivalent about pointing it out, but since you've brought it to light, we may as well talk about it now.

To be clear, what I want to see in your intro post: 1 - Whatever final preparations you would like to make with your contingent before the fight. 2 - Whatever plan or commentary your commander/officers have to contribute to the Alliance War Council prior to the beginning of the battle. (Optional: 3 - Your arrival in the pass itself, or some stuff about the trip there.)

I'm sorry if this wasn't clear. I thought my post was fairly explicit on my expectations. These things happen though. I would like the rest of you to follow the above for your first post. Draycos, TJ, DNW, once everyone else has posted, if you'd like to do a short second post to cover what your commander/officers might say at the War Council, that's fine.

Zeph, if you'd like to make the aforementioned edit to your bio, that's fine.

Alright I did some editing and mashed my second post with my first to show the tent scene as well. Sorry about that Kellehendros, I guess I either over looked that part or had a major brain fart while I was reading it.

Draycos, I'd really rather you hadn't done that. It messes with the flow. Your post is before Zeph's in order, but now also after it chronologically. I'd prefer if you'd remove the section you edited in, and add it as a new post in the order. That will maintain a consistent timeflow for reading purposes.

Black, there appears to be an odd cutoff in your post, in the first paragraph: It was a force to be reckoned with. For the first time since h
If you could edit in the completion of that thought, that'd be great.
