The whole rank system needs to be overhauled. The reason they kept increasing the level cap was because it was easy to implement, and an easy fix to encourage temporary activity. Level cap increases also temporarily masked the ubuqitious balance problems in the game, and ironically, the added stat inflation only furthered balance problems. The rank system has created an extremely disproportionate power gap between two groups of players; those who are extremely active or bot NPCs, and those who only play the game as a mere hobby, rather than as a hardcore gamer. Although this rift is inevitable in all games, it should be toned down in ED, since the difference between a rank 5, for instance, and a rank 60 is immense. In theory, ranks obviously increase stat customisation, but in practice, they just inflate damage outputs and defences. In my opinion, they epitomise one of the fundamental flaws of Omega; excessive stat freedom. When weapons had stat requirements and quasi- fixed stats, build-making was more of a challenge. The old weapon system would also encourage players to spend more on different weapons. They should scrap ranks, refund everyone, and bring back the old enhancement system which I believe had struck a good balance between freedom and constraint in regards to stat customisation.
