@DNW: You have 249 soldiers left, DNW. I have 87. I think Kell has already issued the new troop numbers.

Also, if you wanted to introduce a new character I think you can. Aesa was Unproven, became Proven, and was promoted to Adviser (second-in-command) by Volrun. Worun and Kosik are also characters, both of which are Thanes.

Aesa plays a role Valgard's storyline, and it shows perspective of war from a young shieldmaiden Varan.

The troop numbers have been updated. I'll refer you to the first OOC post for those. As far as who died, I leave that, as noted previous, to your discretion.

Indeed I do TJ. Indeed I do. which means we've lost 6 previous swordsmen/horses and several archer's.

133/150 is quite the hit. Sayden's going to be subjected to verbal abuse for the next few posts that for sure.

@BK, he already got an earful. On the plus side, there's no more magical urn.

I would not discount Sayden's strategy on a personal note, though I cannot judge the thoughts and actions of the commanders. I personally think the strategy was near-flawless, but the Urn ruined everything. None of the commanders could have ever foresaw that.

Trevor giving the order for his cavalry to charge headlong into an enclosing pike formation was, at the very least, a desperate bid to destroy the urn. That wasn't something pushed on by Sayden, as far as I am aware. The fact Thanisgard acted on their own orders was what led to Thomas' death - not Sayden's.

Besides, as little as it counts, an argument could be made that Sayden did not have 100% of the Allied force, as the entire Varan force did not participate until the battle was practically wiped up. He didn't have as many resources as he could have had, and that was not his fault.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

He did the best he could with what he had. Even if the Varan had been there, the arrowstorm still would have gutted our forces.

I'll apologize to Zephyrial for my main character's absence from the tent, as she would've likely defended him from the mob of angry commanders

@Tj. Believe me it isn't really per say that Trevor is mad at Zeph. Just that his confidence was a weakness which the enemy exploited. The commanders right away should have at the very least (if they had a lot of war experience) gotten a vague feeling of "Oh I don't like the look of that." When they all saw the wagon and the robed figures. The enemy mages alone, should have heightened the concern.

It's true that Thomas's death was caused by the charge, But the charge was perhaps two or three moments time before the entire shield broke. Had Thanisgard taken no action whatsoever, the casualty rate would have been significantly higher. Considering there were professional archers and professional pikemen out there. As it was, we still lost quite a bit of men, but that honestly couldn't have been helped one way or the other.

Also, just a reminder to people oocly, we still have a traitor in our midst that is likely aiding in how the enemy is prepared for us. Having said that, Trevor Minx is starting to ponder that very subject as you'll note in my most recent post. I've added a bunch of What if's, am i nuts, and such, but the rising suspicion is starting to come to him.

I did this reasoning through extremely legitimate aspects of the battle between the day before and yesterday.

I won't speak of the traitor, as I don't want to encroach on metagaming boundaries.

Volrun, however, has deduced that the defense of this pass is nothing more than a suicide mission.

Kell said we can try and deduce the traitor, provided you have convincing in game evidence.

Like I said, so far the only evidence that Trevor has is his contemplations of the first/second day battles.

That's not really enough for him to go on. But his suspicions are starting to rise. The thing about Thanisgard is that they've been in quite a lot of battles and when you've commanded as many men as he has in the past, when the alterations of a day show that the enemy is suddenly prepared for a bunch of what the alliance has in store. Then that starts making Trevor recollect in his mind the battle that he witnessed. Which allows him to start using his intellect as a warrior.

Right now he isn't completely sure, he just is starting to look at the battles and go "Something seems very wrong with this picture."

So, unless he stumbles upon something more concrete, at this time he can't really pinpoint who the traitor is.

Say, this next battle phase will be The Gods Take a Hand, right?

I never did know what the Events meant. I would think the second battle took place on day 2, which is when The Gods Take a Hand, right? The next one would be No plan survives enemy contact, correct?

@Draycos
I have replied to your PM, in case you haven't noticed.

I wonder just what plan will not survive contact, considering the Alliance hasn't made one up yet.

Hey folks, just a heads up regarding an inbound post.

I've been working on a collaborative effort with Bastet that I think you shall find... very interesting. It will be a rather long read, but enlightening.

Edit: And the post is up. Please note this is not the plot advancing post that will be up 3/7.

Oh? This is interesting.

quote:

The IC thread is up.

The traitor has been notified by PM, including the particulars of that position.

As a note, all of the allied commanders are generally acquainted with the individual forces making up the Alliance.

In order to keep things moving, we'll consider this the start of the first round. The traitor will not act in the first round. You have until next Monday (11/3) to make your post. If this time frame is too restrictive, please contact me via PM, or on IRC, I'll be in #rpboards as much as I can. Your post should detail whatever preparations you wish to make, and then anything you wish to say in the war council. You guys can discuss and vote on the various plans proposed here in the OOC.

This was at 10/27/2014, while Bastet joined around 12/2/2014

If this is the case then there is no way they could have been the first traitor and your post makes be believe this as well. Could the plot have thickened and we have two traitors on our hands now?

It's a shame Ytha may never find out really.

I think that only Kell truly knows how many people have shady plans.
Good deduction, though, Draycos.

Multiple traitors would indeed make things interesting.

Maybe it's just me, but I have the feeling everyone is the traitor. They may not know it, they may not realize it, but every one of us has our own agenda I am pretty sure.

Though my post occurred twenty years ago, it will play an integral role in Volrun's future actions. I will probably post a more recent post after tomorrow.

EDIT: Just for those who are curious, Tarro Valgard - which is Volrun's father - helped to rally the Varan and repel invaders from Asgeir nearly 20-30 years ago in what is now known as 'the Age of Heroes'. Koros Jarn served alongside Tarro during the conflict as adviser. So Koros once served a Valgard, protected him with his life, and trusted him more than anyone else. Strangely ironic that when a Valgard began to serve him, he was killed.

So, my post is going up a bit early, but I saw a good opportunity and I'm taking it.

The next battle phase will begin 3/14.
