Well Runescape is significantly different from this- It'd play closer to AQW actually, come to think of it.

This, however, has cross-platform play. And presumably a less payment-gouging model of pay than most other MMOs.

Question: What sets AQ3D apart from the likes of Runescape, or other 3D F2P MMOs? I'm using Runescape as an example because AQ3D's gameplay and overall feel are very similar to Runescape, which doesn't bode well since such games don't appeal to the new generation of gamers. Even graphics aren't *that* much better than Runescape.

@Silver Sky Magician

Well, I'll begin by saying that AQ3D is more comparable to games like WoW, so the combat is real-time rather than turn based.

Primary differences between AQ3D and other MMOs like it range from:

• Cross-platform compatibility with intent for mobile, windows and mac support on launch and a chance for more supported platforms later down the line.

• Availability through web browser, phones and tablets, a Windows 10 app and Steam too so you're not left behind.

• The ability to jump into the game anytime and anywhere to play with your friends through the "Sidekick" system. Temporarily teleport to and scale up to your friend's level in order to help them in-game! (Note: You can still adventure around the world with your friends anytime without the sidekick system as well, the key is that with the sidekick system you can scale to their level.)

• Multi-class system so when playing your character you're not limited to just one class.

• AE's traditional punny jokes bundled in for free! :P

That's just off the top of my head though, so I'd recommend checking out the Kickstarter at http://AQ3D.com/Kickstarter for a better explanation. Artix spent all night last night working hard to finish the video you can find at the top and I feel that it does a great job explaining the differences you're looking for.

I just hope the devs have a solid plan for AQ3D beyond just creating basic features. They need to put a lot of thought into what kind of game they want and what kind of experience players will have. So far, all attempts at creating similar versions of existing games (AQ -> WF, AQW -> HS) have failed miserably, and there is the risk that the same may happen with AQ3D if it's just an inferior AQW with 3D graphics.

@above The Kickstarter video does look promising! Kinda pumped for AQ3D now.

How does this multi-class system work?

@Gorillo Titan

Just like how it works in AdventureQuest Worlds. You equip your class of choice from your inventory and you'll be able to use the skills for that class.

Here is an image of how the UI looks like on Mobile, released on the DNs: click here!

The D-Pad needs to be larger and the mobile UI should be movable. The 2 left-most skills need to be in a row and placed on top of the auto-attack button. There needs to be the option to put a jump button on the screen, at the same size as the skill buttons.

Players should have the option to change the transparency of the keyboard so that they can still see the game behind it if they desire. There should be an option for whether the keyboard/chat should be disabled if the player is attacked. Having the edges of the keyboard flash red while the player is in combat is a must, although that should also have an enable/disable checkbox.

Having experience with over a hundred mobile games with this setup, these are necessary to have a complaint-free control system.

Runescape is non-linear, classless, focuses on crafting and combat, seamlessly open world (which means there's no loading screens or lag between areas), restricts access to the majority of the game unless you pay for membership, and allows you to place an unlimited number of your skills on a skillbar.

AQ3D is linear, multi-class, focuses on combat, separates areas and lags between them (yet has no loading screens), and has only 4 skills per class in addition to auto-attack. If it follows AQW's example, only a minority of the game will be kept from free players.

Outside of membership, RS is far less P2W than AQW and AQ3D might become just as P2W if the Kickstarter is any indication.

AQ3D's controls and combat are more similar to mobile MMOs than browser MMOs.

@Undead

Sidekick system destroys the need for a leveling system at all.
I think AE needs to stop adding more features and work on existing ones.

Depth > Width.

Have they really thought this through?
ATM it's not even looking (gameplay wise) like a game and more like a social media app with graphics.

@ckdragonck

Those are my thoughts on AQ3D too.
TBH I feel like this game is too focused on veteran players instead of balancing it between new and old.

It won't gain much interest if new players don't have history with the game' world or characters. They won't get the inside jokes and won't understand why the game (probably) is so focused on including puns in every line of dialogue.

To them it will just seem like a generic mobile mmo that has PC, IPad and Tablet ports (not multiplatform if the controls, UI and graphic capability remain the same on all systems).

Question about a quest - The frikking book stuck in a tree.

WHAT TREE?! I've been running around for who knows how long, hitting trees, clicking on trees from all directions but for the love of god the item just wont drop.

If the tree does not respond when you click it at all, then it's a bug. I fixed this by manually walking into the next greenguard, then walking back into the area. The trees responded for me after that.

So I bet this probably isn't something that can be answered yet, but it takes place in the same world as AQW correct?

Does that mean there's a possibility of Darkblood showing up?

AQ3D will not be the same as AQWorlds, we did consider races. So becoming a darkblood would be possible in the future if we implement different races than human characters. And choose to add darkbloods. But we aren't that far yet. ~ Gjappy

AQ3D is not a 3D remake of AQW, its settings are different. Cysero said in the FAQ that while some elements from AQW might appear, they won't necessarily be the same. So nothing excludes yet the possibility of Darkblood, but nothing confirms it either.

AQ3D is mostly yet not completely a remake of BO. Any AQW elements in AQ3D are due to spiritual succession: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spiritual_successor

AQ3D will still have its own original content but is using BO themes as a basis.

Question: will the Sidekick system buff not only character level, but also the level of their gear? Will the stat enhancements their gear provide be buffed along with damage?

BTW, is there a way to expand the chat?

@Silver Sky Magician

Well, the Sidekick feature has yet to be worked on but I think your gear will be scaled up as well, as it only makes sense to do so. There won't be any stat enhancements in AQ3D as far as I'm aware, that's where item fusion will come in. You'll be able to take one item's stats and apply them to another weapon so you can keep the cosmetics of a weapon you like while also using the stats of a better weapon you get later on.

No way to expand the chat at the moment. It could be a quality of life addition to the PC client once the mobile version is finished though.

In reply to all questions about bugs and issues; we are aware of a lot of bugs on the live server and have patched these already on the development server. But it will take some time before we will push all the fixes to the live server. This is because we are currently in the middle of a transition from Unity 4 to Unity 5 for better graphical quality and compatibility with windows 10. It might still take a week or two before it's there.

But with the patch we will for sure fix:

- Broken quest objects.
- Any gaps that allow you to fall from the map.
- The glitch where buffs can stack up infinitely.
- Monsters getting stuck or running back to spawn point.
- Graphical bugs in Battleon and Greenguard.
- The casting bar of the fireball skill.

And a long with that of course a huge patch with new area's quests, monsters, items and NPC's.
So stay tuned!

@ckdragonck assuming you mean the glitch where the Warrior 's warcry buff stacks up and gives you an enormous amount of outgoing damage.... yes that one got patched on dev. And will be gone as well once the patches go live.

So, something that's been concerning me lately is that every time I've seen AQ3D mentioned lately it's been as a download version rather than as a play in browser version. This is a concern for me since my laptop is about 6 years old at this point and I'm not sure if I will be able to run a downloaded version, plus there is the issue of keepig it updated. Is there going to be a broswer version of are we done with that forever now?

AQ3D is intended to be on browser and mobile. If they make a downloaded version, it'll just be optional unless all browsers stop supporting Unity.

@megakyle777

AQ3D is currently already available on browsers and AE plans to continue support for browsers, so worry not! On that note, if a standalone client is released I'm sure it'll run just as smooth if not smoother than the web player, so if you're able to run AQ3D in a browser you would definitely be able to run AQ3D in a standalone client.

Expanding on what UL said, there'll already be a Steam version and Steam versions are standalone.

edit:

So, recently I had been clicking the server only for it to never load, then Unity to crash. So I figured, "Hey, why don't I clear the cache?"

I thought that worked, since Unity no longer crashed. ... But now it always says "connection to the server has failed" despite my internet being fully connected.

Is it offline or is the game just trolling me now?

Yep. ):

http://s14.postimg.org/i4u5nfdkh/serverprob.png

I'm also getting an endless "Connecting to game server..." buffer in AQW on all servers, but I can load into the other games just fine.

My cache and other related things like cookies have been cleared completely on both Firefox and Opera, and I have both issues on both browsers.

I didn't have this issue until atleast the last update.
