Thanks...Arachnid, some of it yes but not as high as you may believe I'm going to start showing my wire-frames...currently building a solid workflow for optimization. As far as textures go for the most part yes there are times when i photo-source textures the composite them together and tile them ect. but I'm really getting into this procedural stuff if it sparks your interests you'll get a glimpse of it very very soon.

Speaking of which currently recording as we speak.....

Changing up the format of my training to make it easier on myself recording/editing ect. in this first step I'm welcoming you to world machine (free software) I'll give you what you need to get started, based on feedback I'll decide what to cover next. You'll learn how to create terrains, texture them, export the maps, and present them...I will be doing presentation in marmoset as well as photoshop because I need it to look pretty :P to entice you guys but I will cover ways of doing it if you don't have or use a 3d package such as blender, maya, max ect.

This is going to be my first tutorial in a long time so until I get comfy doing this these tutorials will be AE forums exclusives.. it will be recorded and uploaded tonight if I can finish recording before Suits lol if not it will still be tonight just like 11pm-2am rofl

Update: Of...course when you demo everything goes wrong so 2 hours 12mins in the majority was done we created this from start to finish even went as far as to show you how to make tile textures in photoshop and bring them back into world machine was showing how to present your work finished the PS portion moved to 3d presentation and BOOM! camtasia crashed....getting something to drink then starting over.:( (at least I learned the pitfalls of the info I'm trying to share should be more concise this time around)

After much trouble the tutorial is finally done...so I'm sitting here watching it render eta for that 1hr 30mins it's a 3hr tutorial lol about 4gigs at 720p rofl going to have to do something about that...my goal is to have you guys watching by tonight I'll keep you posted

8/15/15 12:04am Sooo I had to take the video quality wayyyyy down sorry guys it's at SD yet it's still at 700mb I should have just broke it into three parts but I dread editing. Currently uploading to youtube if the quality is sooo terrible that it doesn't help let me know and I'll have to break it or just render out a higher resolution...apologizing for my voice (I only have one volume and a terrible mic you may have to turn your speakers all the way up) and the video eta 45mins

Sorry for the double but it's finally up it was a struggle man, lol view above post for a little info if the quality is too bad let me know. If this helps you in any way let me know please feel free to show me your results or if you have questions I'm happy to help. So theses recordings are mixed and matched due to the crashes and all but it should be helpful at 3hrs and 27 mins lol. Here is my end result through the recording(Not the best result I created but...).

Decided to re-visit the sword/dagger going for an even more stylized low-poly look I on hand painting this trying to work in the AE logo atm I just free-handed the runes they say ARTIX when I texture they will glow....at least that's the idea lol. The usual suspect....Zbrush, if I could marry it I would.

Ok this is almost game ready I made a giant no-no I tried to be quick and merge all the pieces (blade, handle, ring, logo guard) and using zbrush's decimate I got it down to 1.2k tri's but the UV's are a mess. I tried zbrush uv master, tried going over those uv's by hand and I'm going to have to do a proper retopo and uv's (I can probably get it to like maybe 600-1k tri) but I like the silhouette.



So first time hand-painting giving it a go in Zbrush, well because I spend most of my time in it anyway it sucks so far but I am proud that the straps have that cloth feel with my painting and the handle kinda does look like bone...I'm learning that's always a plus.

A bit of a break, well not really again thanks to AE and there efforts I have been playing around with both Unity and Cinema 4d creating little game environments as well as little 3d animations and trying to develop use of them for google cardboard VR. For those that don't know google cardboard is a virtual reality viewer, you can build one or buy one I got the d-scope pro like in the artix facebook video but there are many other models. I got mine for 18 bucks well worth it I'd recommend it to anyone there's a lot of cardboard apps out as well. But I haven't completely left game art alone.

Ice orb Relic very low poly (200 or right under) playing with different ways of making the crystal glow


Been a while since I did some creature sculpting so started on a concept this is about an hour or so in I may take it futher or just use it and set dressing (ornament for decoration) on a future project.

Kewl work mate. I've played with ZBrush a bit but my old lappy couldn't really handle it very well. Landscapes are fancy but I've not too much to say about them. Honestly I'm really digging on that ice crystal. The form and colouration are just glorious. I'm not a giant fan of the pink crystal in the heart but the ice around it is just magic. Can't wait to see what else you come up with.

Really wanted to finish this today I made it pretty far but the simulation times...man here's the R&D test for the main part of the doom skull animation currently rendering out for compositing in after effects hopefully final up tomorrow.

One of the initial dev tests for an explosion that will be featured in a commercial in my area I got to work with a small production company due to non-disclosure stuff I can't show the actual final shot until the commercial releases. Getting in on an actual production was invaluable learning about open exr has changed my life lol and compositing in Nuke instead of after effects was amazing thank you LGR Productions.

In your a film guy/girl try The Foundry's Nuke for 2d/3d compositing it's used in most all major film these days and now has a free non commercial version which I snatched immediately.
*Photobucket killed the quality the 1080p full res is sick*

Duuuuuude! Love all the updates. Those effects are very slick, my favourite is probably the dust tornado. I've always been a sucker for a good sand/dust tornado.

Rain System in PFlow going to dive into maxscript to make a tool out of the system to just drop anything in and have it work. If that goes well Vex in Houdini is next muhahaha lol.

Hi everyone back again....:P long story short worked on a cool VR project for a while work wasn't scoped and the project was killed. It was heartbreaking because I put so much effort in to learning and growing...failing and getting back up for the project to be cancelled and the work we did to never see the light of day. I've been in a creative block for a couple of months :( I'm still expanding my knowledge everyday this is my obsession so even though I haven't been practicing I haven't been slacking either. Finally I'm able to create again because I can now merge my growing love for VFX and games thanks to the toughest piece of software I've tried to tackle to date Houdini.

Summary Houdini's new game shelf is a literal game-changer helping to usher in high-end effects in game engines, wanna blow up lets say the guardian tower into 100 pieces or part of it in a complex way Houdini lets you do that and bring it into multiple engines as skeletal like mesh (like a character) or vertex animation it can tap volumes for normals, create atlas textures etc.

First test of this based on some training going to create a higher end explosion in Unreal (because again imo you need 3rd party plugin or be decent at code for Unity shaders) this is first step of creating smoke in Houdini playing with the volume making a texture atlas and bringing it into Unreal via cascade particle system.



Notes:
Basic material and particle setup just to get in engine and working.
Low-res simulation in Houdini will be cranked up for more detail in final
Coming up with ideas for game vfx spells using fluid and other things, work on those will begin as soon as I get proper grasp on the pipeline.
Not as much of a performance hit as I thought it'd be (couple of frames as it's launched) I rendered atlas at 4096x4096 need to do some R&D with texture size and performance

Update: coming along well, more to come..

Hit a snag with the explosion did something in the emitter to cause the dreaded gpu hang error when I try to open it while I shearch for workarounds gotta keep moving right?
So on to the next one

A boil fx I want to make lava that boils next step is to like clamp this effect only to normals facing upwards


smoke looping


splash test the base for my lava I want to make it loop at interesting point frame 0-64 then try one of two things (easier: grab a flowmap from it bring it into UE4 and make splash meshes to emit pockets of lava shooting up) (Hard: make the sim a mesh bring it into UE4 as vertex animation maybe transferring temp/heat attribute to colormap to drive UE4 texture) we'll see how this goes


Also I need a project for my portfolio so starting Project: FrozeFael (FROOZE~FELL) It's going to be a combo of original and fanart based of Ashfall of AQ3D but it will be an environment to set the backstory of my character's past that I made up I will make everything myself I'm going to one-man-army this one no matter how long it takes...

Update: So as you guys can see my gallery is all messed up thanks to photobucket's ransom lol to place your images on other sites. So this is the end of the Hybrid's Lair :( I have to download every image from my PB and host it somewhere else and we're talking stuff from back in the tagging era of The Gallery/DAaS in like 07-08. So like always I will return with a new gallery someday soon. I have a bunch of vids and images to share on all things gamedev vfx and ect. I leave with my latest project in Houdini (which I'm currently learning as well as it's coding language VEX) it's the new wave of procedural content everything can be changed on the fly through the nodes and VEX. Can't wait to share this stuff till then thanks to everyone who's ever stopped by to check out my work much appreciated :D Art on everyone!
