Leaked crafting recipes from the dev server!
In this week's AdventureQuest 3D release, we will be adding Beta Berserker to the game. It will only be available for you brave (and dark) souls playing in Beta. How to get it? Easy :D Our first ever random adventures are coming in the next release. There are only 2 dungeons to start... so the word "random" is being used loosely until we add more. Each run will earn you a shiny and highly valuable Battle Gem. Collect a bunch of them and craft Beta Berserker weapons and armor pieces at Cysero's Forge.

Beta Berserker Crafting Costs
These are the crafting costs on the dev server as of 5:41pm Monday 6/26/2017. They will very likely change... more items likely added.
  • Helm - 40 Battle Gems
  • Armor - 40 Battle Gems
  • Shoulders - 30 Battle Gems
  • Gauntlets- 20 Battle Gems
  • Belt - 10 Battle Gems
  • Boots - 20 Battle Gems
  • Sword - 30 Battle Gems
  • Axe - 40 Battle Gems
  • Scythe - 40 Battle Gems

J.J. Artix lens flares and kabooom promo images!
As part of an inside joke I have been adding fire and lens flares to almost every promo image I have made for a while :D It is really fun to photoshop them. Just letting you in on the inside joke if you have been wondering why everything has been doom fire and brimstone. Maybe I will switch it up tomorrow >_> *googles water FX*

I'm so excited they're allowing you to face the adventures with a buddy! And looking forward to them allowing you to complete the random adventures with a party! It'll be something nice and quick to do with a buddy if neither of you have time to grind for some end game equipment. it'll be epic doing the quests like in the OG AQ with a friend.

On a side note XeNON, I'm sure it'll be out shortly and that Artix or another dev will tweet it when it goes live. We'll have plenty of time between this update and Ashfall part 3 to grind for the whole set so I dont feel the need to hurry through it.

I have grown to hate the warrior class with these random dungeons.

Almost every player I get paired with says "Use Warrior nub, it's faster" or something similar.

Why was there NO solo option?

Crowd control doesn't really exist outside of spin to win. It's to the point that even if other classes provide better DPS on bosses players will still just use warrior.

Hopefully the raid update changes something to punish the cluster farming mentality whether it be your DPS output makes you more likely to agro, repeated whirlwind in a crowd should out DPS rogue and guardian any day of the week, or just giving enemies AoE attacks so they can bash through a crowd of spinning warriors instead of maybe picking off a single target.

There should be a little more thought put into the combat than press 5, then mash 2 and 4 until the targets are dead

Or at least nerf the Warrior class to prevent this happening.

And that leaves the problem open for any future classes to recreate

Kind of disappointed with the dungeons. Was hoping for the adventure to be some kind of mini-story, rather than 3 floors of "kill everything". I think there is a big difference between a cave with a spider boss, and a cave that a child - who is afraid of dark places and spiders - is lost in. Things like characterisation, projection, immersion, and other assorted buzzwords.

As for the dungeons themselves, it doesn't have to be all rush-rush. Make us wait for an NPC escort who is looking for something, or is lost after being separated from their parents. Make the tasks more specific, like mine a green-coloured rock in a room full of mostly red rocks, or identify and kill the one different coloured enemy because its feathers are needed for a poison antidote. Maybe this is a good time for side characters of other AE games to appear, and tell little side-stories with/about them. But for any of this, the NPC would have to talk in speech bubbles above their head, or something like that, so they can guide us through whatever the objective is.

And it's not necessary for everything to be huge open spaces. Even some of the existing dungeons take several minutes to run through, but lack meaningful points of interest along the way (apart from the furthest point of each enemy group's aggro range).

They should totally add that kind of stuff later on, but for regular-paced real dungeons. These mini-dungeons are supposed to be super fast to complete, and random every time. You couldn't add a story or substance to everything.
I do like the idea of having different kinds of objectives. Treasure hunting (find object hidden in room) would be super fun! (as long as the object would be in a random place every time)
Maybe even things like killing an enemy that runs away constantly while dropping bombs on the ground. Things that can be interesting, challenging, but still completed in a short amount of time.

Constructive & Helpful!

The Mogloween Dungeons already did something like that, although to a lesser extent. There was a room where there were multiple chests, but only one of them opened the portal to the next area and all the others would spawn an enemy. There was also the room where you needed to smash pumpkins in order to open the next area, similarly to the Chest room, smashing the wrong pumpkin could result in a monster spawning and this could really ruin your day in the Challenge Dungeon, if you got too many mobs hunting you down.

The main reason why people are like "gotta get through this as fast as possible" and the result of everyone using Warrior is because right now, is because, it's not about just spending a couple minutes in AQ3D goofing around in a "random" Adventure/Dungeon, but most people are trying to get the Beta Berserker items ASAP. That's the downside of adding a clear reward at the end of the journey, you attract all those hardcore people who are in it for the gear, not necessarily the game itself.

And on the topic of a possible Warrior nerf to prevent this sort of thing in the future, maybe they could implement a mechanic where, for every enemy hit with Whirlwind, each enemy takes a little bit less damage, not in the way of the first target getting hit the hardest, but every target getting hit x% less per enemy hit total.

Maybe once we get more classes, we will have more AoE options to choose from and at least give some variety.

@metakirby I don't think the AoE calculates each target sequentially but all at once if you are in the zone. Also wouldn't that hurt the AI if they did decide to add a giant enemy that can AoE like, because we are in Ashfall, a giant dragon with an AoE swipe or fire breath?

As for more dungeon activities I'd love to see jumping puzzles because I've talked to a bunch of players who love jumping around places they shouldn't be

I'm assuming you mean the Random Adventures, in which case, they were released a couple days ago. Just click on the Crystal in Battleon and click the top option "Random Adventure".
Refer to this thread for more info on that.
If that's not what you are referring to, then you need to be a little bit more specific.

I like the idea of random dungeons so far. Sometimes we may need to to take a break from the rest of the game and enjoy some casual play, especially considering AQ3D is on mobile platforms where games are often played in quick sessions. Short dungeons like these provide just that in addition the potential replay value as new dungeons are added in the future. And speaking of loot, I think the Beta Berserker requirements are done decently. They do not feel too grindy thanks to the short nature of the dungeons and the guaranteed Battle Gem reward from them. There's at least a sense of progression in getting the set and considerable progress can be done through quick gameplay sessions. Overall, I think Random Adventures, like the Battle Button (or mountains, I guess) in AQC, is potentially a nifty source for some quick, mindless casual fun.

That said, I don't really find the Random Adventures to be fun, yet. While I understand that it is in a rudimentary stage, I feel that more could have been done with the two existing dungeons nonetheless. Right now, they feel repetitive as every room has the same 'beat all monsters' goal, which limits the variety of the dungeons and in turn hinder the replay value, even for quick casual play. If all these random dungeons happen to be the same thing, should they still be called "random"?

To make things worse, given that Warrior is the sole reliable AoE class in the game and the monster distribution of the two dungeons are similar - large numbers of weak mobs spread across the map and one easy boss - the Random Adventures feature is dominated by a single class which further stagnates its replay value. With the combat and class revamps on the way I hope this is improved.

I do like the idea of Random Adventures, so here's possible improvements which may make the feature more enjoyable:
  • Larger variety of dungeons through short puzzles and monsters. For example, the utility of Mage's fireball to light up torches, a tough monster that's weakened through certain skills, etc.
  • Daily rewards randmized every day as a motivation to log in regularly, which complements Random Adventures which may benefit short, frequent sessions.
  • Random cosmetic rewards from the dungeons, (similarly to Soulborne Axe and Traveler's Pack) or a low-chance craft resource from every dungeon to get cosmetic items. I believe that RNG should be a passive thing and only used in cosmetic items. Since these items can be acquired while farming for things like Battle Gems or Gold they can be cool little bonuses which may add incentive to Random Adventures.
  • Emphasis on guaranteed loot. All right, the dungeons so far already do a decent job at this with guaranteed Battle Gems per run, but I sure do hope they do not deviate from the current model of acquiring BGs in future dungeons. Like I said before, random gear should not be the main loot and instead be solely bonus side loot. One of the most important things about these dungeons is the reward, so we should be given at least something when we complete them. No more Closed-Beta Nightlocke dungeons, please.

Why do the beta berserker have really bad graphics on them? They look, low-res or fuzzy.

Artix responded to a tweet regarding about the blurriness of the set, and he answered that it was indeed not correct, and he also said something among the lines of "we might have used the low res texture of the phone version, i'm gonna check with the team".
