Arthur -> Out-Of-AE Universe Concepts Thread (12/3/2012 4:26:06)

Alright, hey guys..!!

In light of all the new changes that have occured, fellow RPers will find that a new Rule is up that allows us to make Out of AE Universe RPs. So this thread is for you guys to discuss your brains off.

What kind of RP should you like to make that does not belong to the AE Universe?

Discuss..!!

Note: For Mods and AKs, this thread is a more specific version of DaiTigris' "What Rp's would you like to see" Thread and more discussion-centric.

We could use the world of Mortal Kombat, for tournament like RP's. Though, Mortal Kombat is not exactly PG-13...

For Cyber Punk, we could use the world of Deus Ex.

Arthur -> RE: Out-Of-AE Universe Concepts Thread (12/3/2012 7:10:30)

I am currently hosting a Fairy Tail RP called Angel of Shadows, and it's actually panning out quite well there.

The anime worlds show lots of prospects, but the only downside to them is that we have some adults here, those who do not/cannot/will not watch anime. So it requires a certain amount of effort to clarify stuff to them first before starting anything.

Animes like Darker Than Black, Soul Eater, FullMetal Alchemist, D-Gray Man make for good verses. Some of our budding RPers and otakus should experiment with them too.^^

Speaking of which, I shall update the list up top.

Please do not discuss other forums here. ~superjars

*raises hand*
I vote classical Warhammer.
If you don't know it, look up Games Workshop and take a lengthy look.
(Note: The video game Warhammer40K is was a tabletop game with a long history before it. In Warhammer normal, you get the same thing in the past with fantasy.)

Arthur -> RE: Out-Of-AE Universe Concepts Thread (12/3/2012 13:18:12)

I wouldn't know the difference. ^.^«

But thanks for pointing out, I'll add it.

Anyone feel that LoTR is a perfect universe for RPing in?

Legendium -> RE: Out-Of-AE Universe Concepts Thread (12/3/2012 13:26:43)

@Arthur

Yeah, but Warhammer Classic is better.

black knight 1234567 -> RE: Out-Of-AE Universe Concepts Thread (12/3/2012 13:27:34)

LotR is the mother of all fiction. So obviously, yes.
I guarantee you 100% of fictional medieval works take some kind of inspiration from Tolkien's work.

Arthur -> RE: Out-Of-AE Universe Concepts Thread (12/3/2012 13:38:29)

@Leg, A'right. :)

@BK1-7, I completely agree with you.

How about an RP where we form another fellowship to go destroy another Ring? 0.o

black knight 1234567 -> RE: Out-Of-AE Universe Concepts Thread (12/3/2012 13:57:24)

Hmm...not sure how that would work, are they really stupid enough to let Saruon make them yet another copy of the Rings? the One Ring is made to control all the others, that's how the Nazgul were formed. So..uness yet another pair of rings are made, is it really that powerful?

Maybe actually be part of the journey to destroying the Ring?
Personally, if we can actully use the characters, i'm Saruon. Sorry, I want to go around with a mace swatting armies like they're all flies. Too tempting. And being the very embodiment of evil and malice is pretty nice, too.

Legendium -> RE: Out-Of-AE Universe Concepts Thread (12/3/2012 14:13:07)

@BK

If someone knows a good deal about the LoTR world, we could just stage a quest in that world that takes place around the same time as Frodo goes off to destroy the ring.
We could have our quest clash with the ring every now and then, for fun.

Psst. Games Workshop also has a tabletop game for LoTR.

Okay, I'll stop with that for now. But I think the LoTR RP should simply take place in the particular world. Not the original ring storyline.

black knight 1234567 -> RE: Out-Of-AE Universe Concepts Thread (12/3/2012 14:16:04)

The thing is the entire quest for the Ring is really big scale and huge, so it would be hard not to associate with it somehow.
Maybe have a classic VS RP where you're either on Frodo and Sam's side or Sauron's?

Legendium -> RE: Out-Of-AE Universe Concepts Thread (12/3/2012 14:24:08)

@BK
Yech. Nah, I think that'd ruin the concept of putting it in the LoTR universe. For me, LoTR = Quest. I think a linear style of RP would work best. But you can pick which side you want to be. Evil is one group, good another, each want the same object, but for different reasons. Naturally we would see a lot of the Fellowship, but not a major part.

But I think for the second RP in a different world, we should make our own.
If we put our heads together, we could come up with an awesome world for an RP to take place in.

black knight 1234567 -> RE: Out-Of-AE Universe Concepts Thread (12/3/2012 14:28:37)

Yes, it would be a quest, but you would choose which side you will experience that quest from.

Riprose123 -> RE: Out-Of-AE Universe Concepts Thread (12/3/2012 17:03:24)

I can't believe no one has mentioned Star Wars or DnD. The Forgotten Realms would be amazing to RP in, as would any of the many wars in Star Wars chronology.

Riffus Maximus -> RE: Out-Of-AE Universe Concepts Thread (12/3/2012 18:10:24)

I approve of Riprose's idea. Star Wars is pure awesomeness. And as a player of D&D, I also see an interest in making a RP focused on the Forgotten Realms.

As for the LoTR idea, anyone played Third Age? That's pretty much what you guys are suggesting. It's a fellowship behind the scenes of the Fellowship of the Ring, following them in their footsteps.

superjars -> RE: Out-Of-AE Universe Concepts Thread (12/3/2012 18:13:46)

Just to interject in here, based on some conversation I'm seeing, you'll likely not be allowed to actually recreate already developed storylines from classic fictional settings. One of the points of RPing is to create a new story in a new time and place. For instance, in terms of LotR, there is a massive amount of history before the trilogy (The Silmarillion, The Hobbit) and much untapped potential after the destruction of the One Ring that could be explored. However, playing in the setting creates a rich and well-thought through world to hang out in.

It would be similar to creating an AE RP, where you play with the concepts and the world, but you wouldn't simply have an RP that was the AQW storyline. That would be boring.

black knight 1234567 -> RE: Out-Of-AE Universe Concepts Thread (12/4/2012 9:19:34)

Ahh, if that's the case, I think something after the destruction would be nice.

And surprised nobody mentioned Elder Scrolls yet.

Legendium -> RE: Out-Of-AE Universe Concepts Thread (12/4/2012 10:35:03)

@BK

Dat.

That would be friggin' awesome.

Marcus Twain -> RE: Out-Of-AE Universe Concepts Thread (12/4/2012 12:25:18)

I think Riffus is on to something with Star Wars. I was also thinking maybe a post apocalyptic Earth. Dawn of the Dead or Fallout type RP.

Arthur -> RE: Out-Of-AE Universe Concepts Thread (12/4/2012 14:33:29)

@BK, then the only scope for a LoTR RP is spin-offs during the One Ring War or RPs before or after the War. Although I recommend before Frodo's departure and the War. That's when evil was most dominant in the Middle-Earth.

@Marcus, a Zombie RP would be a blast.

Anyways guys, list of Verses has been updated.
Keep 'em coming.

Starstruck -> RE: Out-Of-AE Universe Concepts Thread (12/4/2012 22:30:58)

If you could pull it off, there are a few worlds that could host an RP fairly well.

~Pokemon
~The Real World (WHAT IS THIS HERETIC SUGGESTING)
~~Civil War/Wild West/Victorian-era England/all of the above only steampunk
~~The Late Cretaceous (or pick your favorite Mesozoic period, it's fantasy)
~~Some other point in history
~Walking Dead
~Eragon (Star Wars + Lord of the Rings = Eragon, did you notice?)
~Star Wars Disney Edition

black knight 1234567 -> RE: Out-Of-AE Universe Concepts Thread (12/5/2012 8:04:20)

I was going to suggest history! I personally would want something in the Victorian England era or Ottoman era.

Marcus Twain -> RE: Out-Of-AE Universe Concepts Thread (12/5/2012 9:32:39)

If we're going the history route I would actually love to play in the Wild West. You don't see it too often in an RPG setting.

Legendium -> RE: Out-Of-AE Universe Concepts Thread (12/5/2012 10:13:39)

@Marcus Twain

Being originally Texan, I support that.

Hmm. You almost never see RPGs with a american Indians either. Being partial Cherokee, I wouldn't mind having an RP that takes place in the beginning of civilisation.

black knight 1234567 -> RE: Out-Of-AE Universe Concepts Thread (12/5/2012 10:20:55)

Native Americans, is what you mean?
