The Tempest

*A Note to All Participating: Please re-post your Intros from the Third Section of the Role Playing Academy upon your graduation here, as it will greatly aid with the transition. Thank You!

Rules:

1. The Universal Forum Rules still apply to everything posted in relation to this RP.
2. There is to be no godmodding, (unpermitted) bunnying, or metagaming of any sort in this RP.
3. You must understand that your character’s actions will bear consequences, and be willing to accept them, regardless of whether they are what you wanted to happen or not. Plan accordingly.
4. You must be willing to accept my authority as Threadmaster. If I say NO to something, then it means that there is a darn good reason why you can't do that.
5. You must be willing to read what is written, regardless of whether you think it doesn't affect you or not. One plotline which does not involve you now could very well involve you within the space of a single post.
6. There is to be no combat whatsoever inside of the Tempest.
7. Food and drink (subject to the Universal Rules) may be ordered while in the Common Room.
8. The minor bunnying of the Tempest staff, with the exception of its owner, Garth Eesos, is permitted to help you make your posts.
9. Any remaining questions that you have are to be directed to Ryu Viranesh.
10. Most importantly, have fun.

Background:

The Badlands are a large swathe of land bordered by mountains on the west and by a desert in the south. Geologically, they mostly consist of plains and hilled regions, with a few copses of woods and a small forest in the northeast. Of note, there are several large cave systems that crisscross the underground of the Badlands.

Weather-wise, rain is fairly common with snow being almost unheard of. Temperatures range from 33 degrees Fahrenheit to 70 degrees Fahrenheit (about 0.6 degrees Celsius to 21 degrees Celsius) on a particularly cold or hot day respectively.

The amount of creatures that can be found in the Badlands is quite varied, ranging from small rodents like rats and rabbits to monsters like manticores and even a small drake or two. Rumors say that there’s treasure there, and a few even claim to have found valuable artifacts, but none know the true breadth of what might be found in the region.

The Tempest is an inn situated near the very heart of the Badlands and has been there for close to 20 years now, providing food and shelter for many of the delvers when they need it most. The main building is composed of stone bricks, hand-chiseled by Garth and some of the original staff. It’s where the common room and the front desk are found and thus where the entrance to the inn is located. Today, the building is where only the highest paying guests are allowed to stay the night, the rooms furnished with extra amenities such as a personal washbasin (other guests are required to use communal baths), access to room service, and a complementary fur robe.

Over the years, as the Tempest has grown more and more popular, additions to the original structure were required. This led to the construction of the many wooden longhouses that extend from the back of the inn (via a breezeway) and further into the wilderness. Each longhouse has two full floors of rooms, each of the same quality and available for the same price. To elaborate, the average room consists of a full bed, a desk and a chair, a smooth wooden floor, a small fur rug, and perhaps most important, insulation from the cold.

*

This is a character-driven RP, meaning that while there is no overarching plot, you are very much free to do as you please so long as you abide by the RPs rules. However, it also means that you must be willing to make the effort to work your character into the RP. Host or not, I will not do it for you. With such a broad setting, it should not be difficult. Many types of characters are welcome in the Badlands, and there are many varied different reasons that they could be there.

Be creative, show me that you can come up with something original and interesting and then bring it to life in the RP.

TJByrum -> RE: The Tempest: OOC (2/5/2013 9:30:14)

Noticed Riffus is up for continuing this, so I went ahead and posted my intro post in the IC.

Starstruck -> RE: The Tempest: OOC (2/5/2013 11:43:49)

As my own post is a continuation of two others, I will wait until those two have been posted before posting my own, preferably in rapid succession. :)

Riffus Maximus -> RE: The Tempest: OOC (2/5/2013 16:24:11)

I'll be more than glad to continue where we left.

Congratulations to all who passed!

TJByrum -> RE: The Tempest: OOC (2/5/2013 22:15:00)

Cool Riffus! As long as BK jumps in we ought to be good.

Riffus Maximus -> RE: The Tempest: OOC (2/6/2013 16:25:11)

Of course. I'll expect a few more graduated to arrive before we start moving forward in our adventure.

Starstruck -> RE: The Tempest: OOC (2/6/2013 21:33:02)

Interestingly enough, it turns out that I mishmashed details when describing the beast in my intro post, and neither TD nor jars said anything about a runic hide. Weird.

Mirai -> RE: The Tempest: OOC (2/9/2013 15:17:08)

Postie! I've tweaked it a tiny bit from that originally posted in Thread 3 of the Academy, to try to make it more readable and less overly wordy. I'm not sure quite how successful I've been though... it'll be something to work on...

black knight 1234567 -> RE: The Tempest: OOC (2/17/2013 8:52:10)

Well gents, sorry to keep you waiting.
Have there been any changes in the plan?

Riffus Maximus -> RE: The Tempest: OOC (2/17/2013 10:13:21)

Hey bk, you made it! Nope, no changes. Since we originally though of doing this adventure with me, you and TJ, we might as well start posting in the Tempest and get this show on the road.

I'll just wait for your post in the IC, then I'll make an answer post.

TJByrum -> RE: The Tempest: OOC (2/17/2013 14:41:53)

Same here, BK. Welcome old friend! Hopefully, like Riffus said, we can get this show on the road. Showing some activity and life here might encourage other RPers to pursue the RPA and get here quicker.

Legendium -> RE: The Tempest: OOC (2/18/2013 2:42:39)

And I'm in!
Before I can really start contributing to the story though, Powerpie has to get in. I'll be back when that happens, and maybe some of you can join the misadventures of a wizard and a rabbit for comedic relief.

black knight 1234567 -> RE: The Tempest: OOC (2/19/2013 14:24:09)

...Aaaand posted.
I now quietly await the turn of events.

Riffus Maximus -> RE: The Tempest: OOC (2/25/2013 1:00:25)

Sorry for the slow reply. Recently joined TJ for a colla before answering to Mirrak

TJByrum -> RE: The Tempest: OOC (2/25/2013 10:14:34)

I was planning on doing the collab before BK posted, that way to remain consistent. But I don't reckon it should matter.... right?

Also, when do you guys think we should head out? Stay a day in the Tempest and go out the next day, or after we get done introducing each other? If we rest it'd make sense, as Torik is very tried and weary from his travels. And like Glenn says, he's an old man.

superjars -> RE: The Tempest: OOC (2/27/2013 1:31:34)

Post up for Forel. He has done exactly what he's good at: fainted.

black knight 1234567 -> RE: The Tempest: OOC (2/27/2013 3:23:06)

A day or so after we meet seems good.

Starstruck -> RE: The Tempest: OOC (2/27/2013 11:21:10)

Unfortunately, it seems poor Forel was not able to catch a glimpse of Lizzy before he passed out, so I have nothing to respond to yet. If need be I could probably rustle up a paragraph in response, but I'd rather TD went before I did.

TJByrum -> RE: The Tempest: OOC (2/27/2013 11:34:22)

I have posted the collaborated conversation between my character, Torik, and Riffus' character, Glenn. It's just a 'practice' collab, as I have never collaborated before like that and Riffus agreed to do it with me so I could have some 'practice' or whatnot. Just some dialogue and getting to know each other, nothing to big.

black knight 1234567 -> RE: The Tempest: OOC (3/5/2013 11:54:31)

I've been thinking about all three of us making a collab for the next post.
Thoughts?

Riffus Maximus -> RE: The Tempest: OOC (3/5/2013 13:17:16)

That might be tough to coordinate a 3-man collab, but hell, always up for challenges!

What do you have in mind for the next post?

TJByrum -> RE: The Tempest: OOC (3/5/2013 13:18:50)

@BK: I'd love to do that. Maybe not next post, but when the three of us get together and get ready to go on the adventure or something, then sure. We could have a little discussion over breakfast a the Tempest about what we want to do, why we want to do it, and how we're going to do it.

black knight 1234567 -> RE: The Tempest: OOC (3/6/2013 12:59:49)

First of all: do any of you guys have any plans for your characters to do/say anything before we head out? you know, during the sleeping/resting/whatever period?
If not, we can start the collab off in the next day. I was thinking of incorporating at first what TJ has in mind, where they go over their plans for the adventure and what not, then we could write up the beginning of the adventure, we could stop right infront of the hideout of this demon, or atleast it within sight.

Any other suggestions?

TJByrum -> RE: The Tempest: OOC (3/8/2013 17:42:56)

Agreed BK.

But are we going to do this quest fast or draw it out?

black knight 1234567 -> RE: The Tempest: OOC (3/10/2013 12:50:30)

While it's all up to Max, i'd like myself to draw it out a little bit. So it isn't 1 post and viola, let us try and build this menace. Maybe inside his cave *which isn't like two rooms, but a HUGE cave, you see drawings on the ground, writings of people long gone and dead by his hands telling us about the horrors of this demon.
