A cold wind is blowing through Frysteland...actually a cold wind is usually blowing through Frysteland, considering its climate and all. ANYWAY! We've got big, BIG plans for this upcoming release, and as I mentioned last week, this release is so big we'll need 2 weeks to build it. That means, unfortunately, no release Friday, but next week will be incredible!


Blood Hawk Battlegear Bundle

In the year since Alydriah was expelled form Frysteland by the Endless, the Krampus people have slowly begun to recover. In addition to the human toll Alydriah's cruelty took on the harsh Northern land, many indigenous species were devastated or wiped out by constant battling. One such species is the rare Blood Hawk. These creatures were used for centuries by the Krampus people for hunting and taming yetis. Thought extinct, they have returned in force to once again aid the Krampus people in keeping the cuddly but ferocious creatures in line.

Now you will have the opportunity to own the Blood Hawk and the Spectral Hawk (energy variant) along with a host of avian armaments!

The Blood Hawk Battlegear Bundle will be available for a limited time. With this package you will receive:
  • 2 Blood Hawk Slayer swords
  • 2 Blood Hawk Battlegear mutating weapons
  • 2 Blood Hawk bots
  • The swords and mutating items will come with a pre-installed Blood Hawk core!
  • 10k Varium
We realize that the last package offered was not that long ago so we're offering the package items in-game as well. It's definitely a better value to get them all together in the bundle, of course, but if you've got a pile of Varium burning a hole in your pocket...you should probably seek medical attention immediately.

If those weapons weren't enough to intrigue you, we have some special surprises in store. Stay tuned for more details!


You're Epic, But Are You...LEGENDARY?

Next week, we're raising the level cap to...*drumroll* 40! Rabblefroth is hard at work smoothing the experience curve to make earning levels slightly less painful. But what happens after you reach 40 and max out all your gear? What then? Ponder the great mysteries of the universe? NO! 40 is just the beginning of a much longer journey as an EpicDuel Legend!

After a player becomes Legendary, you will continue to earn experience as Legendary experience. Your level will not increase, but you will instead earn Legendary Ranks! Each rank earned will unlock a Legendary point that can be placed in a broad array of stats. These stats will be more specialized than Dexterity or Technology which influence a range of battle attributes. We haven't finalized the list, but we will build as many as we can by next week. The beauty is we can always add more later, unlike the current, more rigid stat list.

Legendary players will be defined by a uniquely colored name, an icon in their interface, and several other minor aesthetic changes. We'll have more details as the systems are finalized and polished.


Achievement Overhaul Continued

Work on the Achievement Overhaul continues as we wrap up a few features we didn't get to last week, in addition to fixing some minor bugs.

You will also have the option to switch view modes. If you don't like the new, larger style, you can always switch back to a more classically styled view to see more achievements at once.

Titan is also working on a new overall progress bar to see how many Achievements you have total. How close are you to earning them all? If you're close, we're about to make getting them all a bit more difficult with the next feature.


AE Arcade Bonanza!

We're going all-out with the Arcade next week, offering several new games based on other AE games. Collect weapons, house items, and other intriguing baubles from MechQuest, HeroSmash, AdventureQuest, AdventureQuest Worlds, and MORE! Each of these new games offers a new achievement and a new leaderboard to dominate!

To make it easier to acquire Arcade Tokens, we'll be softening the requirements for the daily missions. If you didn't already know, it's possible to earn Tokens from completing daily mission chains. Some can be a bit on the grindy side so we'll try to make it a more pleasurable experience to complete them.


Party Like They Do in Asgard

As if everything else mentioned above weren't enough...ED Artist Revontheus is crafting some slick Asgardian styles to spice up this release. What does Asgard have to do with Frysteland? Well, they're basically space vikings and vikings lived in cold climates sooooo...yeah.

    To be honest I wish they wouldn't make the game more competitive, If I want competition I'd go play a sport or something. I play computer games for fun and it wouldn't be fun to lose to legendary players all the time.

    Hopefully the new items that are coming in game don't make balance even worse than it is now. That is the last thing we need TBH.

    But other than that everything else is looking good.

    Wow! This is one big release, and I'm liking everything I see :D Will definitely be getting the new promo, and I'm excited about the new cores and bots as well. Have to say the claws probably aren't my favourites out of all the weapons, luckily I use a sword anyway.. [;)]

    atleast they sell in game i hope they dont make them varium only because im running low. i have 60k credits ready though :)

    So far everything that can affect battle has been given a credit price in game or will be given one in game when it comes back in game(with the exception of phase promos since they aren't seasonal)

    But on another note I haven't seen something like that since the Pre order for omega.

    It's a really big package, which makes me want to buy it. Although, I thought the Black Abyss package did include the weapons too (Sword and Mutating). o.O

    Wow they've really outdone themselves this time. This all sounds wonderful. I wonder if there will be a limit to the amount of "legendary stats" you can get?

    I've asked very similar question in the livestream. NW said the power difference between x Rank Legendary players and non-Legendary players will be noticeable, but not game-breaking. So it won't be as big as +5 level difference, but noticeable, so perhaps something along the lines of +2 levels difference? Who knows.
    But with that, I'd expect the level range for Legendary players to be lowered - max Legendary player vs. -5 levels below, makes it impossible to win - even with crazy luck, unless you Crit, Block and Deflect everything.

    It looks like I'm about to go hardcore. My 1 win a day or less won't cut it anymore if I want to get to level 40. I'm expecting 30k wins from me by the end of 2014. Here we go...

    Trust me...those legend points are gonna mess up balance so much. They better have ridiculous EXP scaling and minimal effects other you're gonna see a lot of players from level 34 going to 35 rage quit in the future to the legend point abuse giving level 40s way more than just a 5 level advantage.

    Blood hawk deal seems good though. Might actually get it...who knows?

    I think the argument that this game thrives on addicted players is invalid. You have to remember addicted players get a ton of credits very easily and have no need for varium Addicted "hardcore" players are also very good at winning and will class change, copy builds, buy Oped cores just to get an edge on players looking for fun.
    Now if the game had a bigger player base where most players are casual and there may or may not be addicted players would equal to more people buying varium(plus profit).

    this will have not so good impact on 2v2 ........... it will be even harder to win with lower level teamate against higher level 40


    On the other side ...... with legendary stats .... who knows level 40 juggernaut might become stronger.

    I agree with penguin, given their core standard I think this will harm balance as well, though it can potentially not just they hardly ever take that path.

    What I find annoying is they give this massive insentive to play without actully fixing the shocking game play.
    Weapons look amazing though I really hope they give it cores for once THAT DON'T RUIN BALANCE AND GAMEPLAY.

    That is my only wish really.
    Make cores that increase variety not wreck it.

    I kinda feel sorry for the game and the old players. Change is constant. But trying to fix something that isn't broken is just not a "bad idea", but the "worst idea!" Dev's may say the game has improved. And yes it definitely has!(graphic quality) But along with it their were many "unnecessary" changes and "improvement". And i don't need to say this nor prove it. The number of online players clearly says it all.

    IMO, These two are the major reasons for the downfall of ED.

    - Availing every weapon/core etc.. for credit or varium.

    - Always concentrating more on making/designing new weapons instead of new features. (I don't think i need to mentioned them. Dev's can probably look into their 3-4 yrs old "to-do list")

    @SOuL Prisnor,
    Those features might not be good for you, but for others, it's something people like. The level cap being increased to 40 is going to make some players play more, and longer. The amount of people who asked the level cap to be increased was quite high a few months ago.

    If you feel like the new ideas are bad, then just say it's pointless when the Design Notes come up. Don't use the feature as well since it's bad. :P

    @soulprisoner you should know that the game consists of 2 programmers and 2 artists, they each have their own job to do, i don't think its right to tell the artists to stop making art and help the programmers because it would end up with more errors and setbacks. plus ED is low in staff members you can't expect them to work like robots 24/7 doing stuff that 5 programmers do.
