RageSoul -> How to Reduce Stress caused by Competition (4/17/2014 5:49:41)

Hello fellow EpicDuelists !

I'm here to propose an idea about , as what the title says , removing stress caused by competitiveness . Now what would be this stress ? Simple :

"If X player can't get the same rate of wins / less losses as Y , then he feels inferior because Y is using Z build , which is more fitting in the current meta ( or superior standard ) than his 1 build ."

So what's the issue ? Well since Player X can't seem to get the same rate due to his 1 build not working currently , he will most likely 1) copy the build or 2) just quit PvP , or worse the game . If he chooses 1) , he ends up getting bored and not try to explore further and theorycraft ( that is , doing math and experiment ) , hence he ends up being "generic" . And if he chooses 2) , then that's a big loss to the Devs . But people end up going to option 2 simply because , well , we have the drive to become better ( even if it means just copying the builds more experienced players made because a lot of them are easier to use and utilize ) .

However , the main problem is .... nobody's willing to make sacrifices , hence less diversity and less diversity = less fun , because of the fear to be called "inferior" .

Now that we identified the main issue , what do we do now ? Balance changes shift from one to another thanks to certain player request that weren't thought out well ( remember , people don't want to theorycraft / explore because of fear to be seen as "inferior" , hence less skill / experience ) , so we ended up even more messed up results .

So , my solution is --> removal of both losses and total battles done ( to prevent win-loss calculation OFC ) . "Woah-woah-woah there mister RageSoul , wouldn't this discourage competitiveness in every game mode if that's implemented ? " The answer is no , because if we totally don't see our defeats recorded , then we wouldn't worry about our builds so much and have fun while exploring . And there's still existing competition : Wars , Most 1v1/2v2/Juggernaut Wins Daily and bragging rights of "most Wins" . All of them have one thing in common : they all involve PvP wins , so therefore competition still exists

TL ; DR : Stress of Inferiority caused by Competition due to Losses = less diversity = less fun = less players .

EDIT ( 4 / 18 / 2014 ) -- changed the "remove" from title to "reduce"

No losses = everyone using a build that deals as much damage as possible in as little time as possible = almost no diversity at all = boredom = less players.

Not supported in the least.

Epic duel is a player vs player game which means guess what? Competition. It is suppose to be a competitive game about planning and loses are there for a reason. A good player learns from their mistakes and uses those to get better. Removing loses will only make the game worse not better.

Besides I remember the staff already saying no to completely removing loses and offered at best to hide them which they have done already.

@8x
No losses = no need to copy the FotM builds = less hassle .

@Mother1
I really doubt hiding them to other players would make the ones feeling bad better since they're recorded .

@ ragesoul

Just because there are no loses recorded doesn't mean it will remove the masses desire to win. which means people will still copy what they see is winning. It also doesn't remove the fact that they will still lose as well as see the big "Defeated" screen even if you did this.

You have to remember PVP = Competition = winners and losers. It isn't one of those PVE games where it wouldn't matter if you got loses.

Removing the loss statistic won´t change anything as it would just hide the numbers and they are
hidden to other players anyway now.

Competition stress between players can only be countered by a new team duel mode vs farmable
NPC bosses or 2 players vs 2 NPCs. I once suggested that some years ago but it went to the current
NPC bosses like Armor Hazard and Exile Leader that are not rewarding after the first win which
rewards an achievement. To make team farming less boring it would require that the players encounter
alot random NPCs with different power and skills so that the players have to use different strategies to win.

@Mother1
True they will still copy , but they'll become tired of said build later on since no losses = no stress .

@Thylek Shran
NPCs could work , but many people wouldn't care about them and instead just make un-theorycrafted suggestions .

8x -> RE: How to Remove Stress caused by Competition (4/18/2014 1:33:07)

Yes, there will be no need to copy the builds, but people won't bother making creative builds just to lose to a few lucky people with strength/support builds.

@8x
With the rate of the Devs welcoming more artists with open arms instead of theorycrafting ( not insulting , just an assumption ) , it's gonna stay as it is but removing losses just prevents you from feeling more inferior .

GearzHeadz -> RE: How to Remove Stress caused by Competition (4/18/2014 6:20:37)

People are still going to know they lost. Whether or not it's shown. (Which you don't even have to look at if you don't want to)

Thylek Shran -> RE: How to Remove Stress caused by Competition (4/18/2014 17:53:34)

It won´t boost creativity in build making as there still is the pressure to win
as wins unlock just everything that players want: Credits -> Items, Leveling up,
achievements, ranks, influence stars, faction influence.
Some of those could be gained by losses too but its very slow and frustrating.

Mother1 -> RE: How to Remove Stress caused by Competition (4/18/2014 18:02:12)

@ thylek shran

Not to mention epic duel is build on PVP competition as well so even if all those were gone, there is still the human desire to win that will cause people to copy build. Especially if they aren't good build makers themselves.
