The thing I noticed about fame is, when it works the way it's supposed to, which is to honor somebody who legitimately deserves it, such as having a really good fight and a friendly conversation between 2 players, then it's an absolutely amazing thing.
The problem is players corrupted the system.
Take away the leaderboard for fame and just make it a thing where people can see how much fame you have in-game, but there is no reward for it aside from just having...well... fame and honor. That way it'll serve the purpose it was meant to be used for, and people won't really be inclined to beg for it anymore.
