Like seriously! What would the ''5 less support requirement'' do?

Nobody is going to use tank builds.
Nobody is going to use pure strength.
Focus the only good build in BM class, was indirectly nerfed.

@nowras

Support BM build is also pretty strong.

Silver Sky Magician -> RE: =ED= October 2nd, 2015 - Patch Notes 1.6.55 (Balance) (10/2/2015 14:26:53)

5 less support requirement allows STR/Tank BMs to get a level 5 energy parasite within 10 support invested, giving them a viable energy drain. Whether this is sufficient remains to be seen, however it does go some way in making STR BM on par with STR TLM and TM. Tank BMs will likely benefit less since they often add a considerable amount to support anyway to have reliable damage, though we may see some surprises. If the buff is insufficient, we will consider further lowering the support requirement.

Bludgeon gave too much with too little investment. It was basically OP'ed, vastly outperforming all other %damage-based skills. This nerf was sorely needed.

The Phase Shift buff is welcome and complements the core's reusability. 40 energy is easy to muster even in late-game, and might prove a game changer against builds with significant def/res difference. STR builds would find this very useful - now both BMs and TMs have a loop of low-cost physical skills available, and TLMs to a lesser extent with Toxic Grenade.

Exploding Penguin -> RE: =ED= October 2nd, 2015 - Patch Notes 1.6.55 (Balance) (10/2/2015 18:22:10)

Bludgeon just lost its identity as one of the most efficient skills for cost-damage ratios. Great. Now aside from it always being physical damage it's literally one of the most bland skills the game has to offer.

Stonehawk -> RE: =ED= October 2nd, 2015 - Patch Notes 1.6.55 (Balance) (10/2/2015 19:43:35)

Bludgeon has the advantage of being physical even if your weapon is energy, unlike the other skills of its kind (increases x% damage), so I don't think it really lost its identity, just because it's no longer the most useful and cheapest striking skill at the same time.

Exploding Penguin -> RE: =ED= October 2nd, 2015 - Patch Notes 1.6.55 (Balance) (10/2/2015 20:14:05)

I would actually think it's still fine but people barely ever have one stat just incredibly higher than the other stat, especially defense. If anything it will be the other way around with dex BHs.

Silver Sky Magician -> RE: =ED= October 2nd, 2015 - Patch Notes 1.6.55 (Balance) (10/2/2015 23:59:24)

Bludgeon's deadliness lies in the fact that energy shields are unlikely to be useful against STR BMs and TMs, forcing players to take full damage most of the time. Bludgeon is also still useful for a pinch damage increase.

Exploding Penguin -> RE: =ED= October 2nd, 2015 - Patch Notes 1.6.55 (Balance) (10/3/2015 3:28:00)

Pinch damage increase is a very bland concept. So many other skills end up doing it, like double strike whose specialty is having a 1-turn CD (which has not been balanced out to actually be viable because of how strength builds are and the way energy converts into damage on skills). The idea of just doing more damage than a basic attack is okay but not when it already spans so many different classes in an almost identical way. Before, bludgeon at least was renowned for having the most efficient ratio of energy cost for damage bonus in the game, but now that isn't the case.

Furthermore the 3-turn shields typically aren't used. People normally don't run debuffs and spending a whole turn without gaining rage and using up energy to buff for a measley 3 turns which can be stalled out with energy drains and whatnot isn't worth it at all. The only situations where bludgeon's physical damage would be useful would be against an active technician or blood shield, both of which are not very commonly used or invested in. Since it's hard to run into people who blatantly just have a lot less defense than resistance cores like phase shift as well as solid damage types like bludgeon don't mean anything. I could walk into a PvP right now with a physical primary, physical gun, physical aux, and a physical robot and probably only do a tiny bit worse than if I mixed up my damage types. That's how insignificant damage types are in battle right now.

It's cool that they're beginning to make skills more worth investing skill points in but to me bludgeon has just been completely destroyed. It was once a "usable on many different builds because of how cost efficient it was" that was applicable to even focus builds and tank builds due to the way %-damage bonus skills work. Now it's pretty much a "use this on strength builds only and it's just more damage that costs lots of energy." Only applicable on a very specific type of build since the cost will never be worth it on any other class setup.

nowras -> RE: =ED= October 2nd, 2015 - Patch Notes 1.6.55 (Balance) (10/4/2015 17:15:49)

Bludgeon saved my life many times as a focus build now I'm not expecting that from it..

Exploding Penguin -> RE: =ED= October 2nd, 2015 - Patch Notes 1.6.55 (Balance) (10/4/2015 18:06:02)

^Exactly my point :(

It was such a nice skill to have that, to me, was just a substantial increase in damage that barely cost any energy. And with energy parasite, BM likes to use skills that don't cost much energy so that stuff like intimidate and the old bludgeon could be reliably used the turn right after parasite was planted.
