Retrosaur -> Will the nerf of Shadowskull Tower gear set up precedence for future nerfs? (3/13/2017 20:32:19)

I ask this because gear can ultimately be purchased using the paid currency, whether it be for the instabuy or to rush a specific build of an item.

With the Shadowskull Tower gear nerfs, does this set precendence for future sets to get nerfed as well? I feel uncomfortable spending Gems on an item that may receive nerfs in the future -- I find it likely others share the same presumptions as myself.

Will we know if things are intended or things aren't and will get likely nerfed? It's not particularly enjoyable to hear that a set of gear that one uses is nerfed especially since it implies that the original stats on the item in question were not actually intended that way, despite whatever it is passing QA and making it into the game build.

Please give me your thoughts and opinions. I was previously on the fence to buying gems for gear but now I am even more hesistant to open my wallet with the fear that whatever I buy can be nerfed just to "keep things in line with whatever is released later".

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm almost positive the Shadowskull gear have never been offered for Gems?
I'm pretty sure they decided to stop that with the Nightlocke weapons (Making all gear, especially high up ones, not pay-to-win with Gems).
I mean, you can use gems to speed up the actual craft but...

Otherwise, taking what Cysero mentioned on Twitter, I think they are trying to move away from attack on armors (or large amounts) and have more supportive stats like defense, hp, mp, etc. and move more attack to weapons, and this is why you see The Scale Slayer have a ridiculous amount of attack compared to any other weapon.

Like I said, anything in game can be received with gems, whether it be rushed or bought directly.

Supportive stats at this point mean nothing until players understand what defense means, because apparently having a higher defense than an enemy's attack doesn't negate damage, as odd as that may be. HP is a useless stat as it only affects how much hits you can tank, which means nothing when players have no understanding of what defense is.

If you're on the fence about using your Gems, then just wait for the timer? I've only used my gems for potions and gold boosts so far, and a few exp boosts awhile ago.

Defense is pretty understandable. You just don't understand why it does not negate damage, for in fact it doesn't on any monster. There's just diminishing returns on lower-end monsters who will always do at least 1 damage to you. It also makes damage that used to be huge when you were lower leveled just a scratch in combination with more HP. More defense = less damage taken. If you don't believe me, then equip a full set of Shadowed and run through Shadowskull Tower, then do the same again with Shadowed Plate and you'll see a huge difference in damage and tanking. HP is supposed to be for more tanking, and if you agree that it allows you to tank more damage then its by far not a useless stat. Armors with less defense and HP (I see them both go hand-in-hand) but more attack sacrifice survivalbility for more attack, which means even though this system is very basic, it still does its job in separating tanks from the rest of the group. However, because of the attack nerf, DPS don't stand out as much as they used to before.

Also, with the game being in Beta Testing, you can probably expect many item nerfs over this testing phase. They've been talking about a huge combat overhaul for awhile now which may bring some expected nerfs and buffs to more popular classes and stats.

I certainly dont like checking every day to see if there is stronger equipment in the game yet, only to see my gear has been nerfed and I need to wait even longer just to get to the stats I already had previously.

So I hope this doesnt happen too much, its already very difficult to find the motivation to log in, as there is very little i can mess around with and class builds are non existant and combat with 4 skills gets boring fast.

But this is Beta and we should expect tuning to be done like this. I hope this game pays off in the future though. I have donated money to this company for years.
