gonna vote for dragons as the extent of my monster hunter knowledge is that one anime and dragons tend to always be the best choice dragons ftw

I would say dragon but it would be better to save that for a potential canonical DragonLord class. I read the suggestion of a sentient shadow being the battle pet. Personally, I think that's really cool and appropriate given the fact that we're moving into the Darkness Island arc and some kind of Darkness saga.
