Dragonfable has a walk-around engine, yet at the moment, it is barely used. You can, no, you MUST, use the gryphon to get to other towns. The Gryphon has completely destroyed the exploring part that could have made Dragonfable a game twice as good. Moreover, it has made it nearly impossible for people who do not use the forums (the vast majority of players) to find out what and where the storyline is. This can still be resolved. This is a pretty in-depth suggestion, with quests and dialog. However, all of the quests, dialogs, images and names are just examples to show how much adding paths between towns would add to Dragonfable. The bottomline of it all is: we need the towns and storyline connected! The main points of my suggestion are: * Create paths between towns, just like the path between Oaklore and Falconreach. * Add non-scaled quests to these paths that you NEED to complete to get to the other town. * Or, add other requirements for crossing paths. * Add sidepaths to paths, cotaining scaled side quests, some hidden. * The Gryphon should only be able to take you to places you've already visited by means of walking. The effects the above would have are: * Give the player the feel of discovering a world and going on your own adventure, instead of flying around and helping everybody like some 'errand-boy'. * A fun new way to add new quests that do not necessarily relate to the main storyline. * Make people want to level more, since you need to be a certain level to get to new locations. * And most important, it makes the storyline consistent. This way, you would have to do the Dragon Egg saga first, then the Wind Orb chain and then the other orb chains. The Wind Orb chain should be first because it shows us that Sepulchure wants the orbs and that means the Sandsea and Necropolis storylines make sense. Also, before you enter either Osprey Cove or the Ninja village, a one-time cutscene could be implemented that shows us just why we want to collect all of the elemental orbs. Maybe, as a compromise, those too lazy to do the path quests ( ) would be able to go there with the Gryphon for a fee of gold. They'd have to keep paying that amount until they've done the quest, then the Gryphon becomes free to use. This however, does take away the part about making players play the storyline in the right order, which I think is a great shame. - Update, January 2009. A reaction to recent developments considering connections. - Recently, the DF staff has been adding connections between towns. You can now walk to the Necropolis and the Sandsea from Falconreach and to Lymcrest from Warlic's area. However, I do not think these connections are up to their full potentials. I'll quote a very good idea from Zamuelnow here: 'I've been exploring the game and I just realized that there's already viable background scenery for transitioning from the Falconreach paths at Valencia to both major regions of Doomwood (Amityvale and Necropolis). If you go to Nythera's Stocking the Shelves quest and run straight up the center, you'll notice this area one screen down from the top screen with the amulet weapons. While it needs a horizontal flip, it is clearly a split between normal forest and the dead trees from Doomwood. What's more relavant is that this is actually an intersection so it allows splits to multiple areas. This can also be expanded upon with other Doomwood-esque parts of Nythera's quest such as this for more splits and transitions. As far as blocking unwanted parts of these intersections, well placed logs like back in the Oaklore to Falconreach transition or random bushes can easily be used. From there, these intersections could directly lead to Amityvale and Doomwood or they could use modified versions of Ash's Doomwood quest in a similar form as the Hydra was used since the code is already there and the Ash quest is non-scaled. Sandsea is interesting since it require a bit of creativity. Most likely involving traveling through tunnels/caves based upon pre-existing scenery which would take you to a desert or even using a well placed portal and then a few desert screens. The key is that we all learned from Greg the Transdimensional Cricket that Lore is a little bigger than we all realized. These paths will help prove it. ' As we can see, the staff should easily be able to make basic paths between the current one-screen connections within the timespan of one week (one update). And I think we can all agree Falconreach should be connected to Amityvale and Amityvale, in turn, to the Necropolis. More indepth stuff in reaction to these recent changes coming in time. - End of update - ----------------------------------------------------------------- Now an example of what Dragonfable could look like when all of these changes have been implemented: Here's a map of how the connections would be, and what the requirements for moving from one town to the next would be. NOTE: all of the requirements are a one-time thing. Once you've visited a town you will always be able to visit it either by walking or by gryphon, without having to do anything extra. ~ Map ~ Note: Warlic's Area is accesible through the portal in Falconreach. 1. Hydra Quest - Required Quest. Ends Introduction zone. Scaled to level 5. Must have completed Rolith's quest. 2. Valencia's Area - Path to the right leads to Amityville. Path down does nothing for now. It may lead to another Orb location (ice castle, land of the giants, etc.) Valencia can take you to the Sandsea in a hot-air balloon if you have finished either the Pirate or Ninja quest chain. 3. Ship Repair (Rhubarb Quest) - Required Quest. Starts Orb Saga. Scaled to level 12. Must have completed Dragon Egg Saga. 4. Sho'Nuff Island - Enlarged Map - A. Starting point on Sho'nuff Island when Rhubarb brings you to it. - B. Pirate Attack - Required Quest - Scaled. - C. Ninja Attack - Required Quest - Scaled. 5. This is the current 'coming soon' path in Warlic's zone. Must have finished Xan saga to get to Lymcrest. 6. Required Quest - Must have completed either Pirate or Ninja quest chain. 7. Sandsea (Connected to 2.: Valencia) - Enlarged Map: ~ Map ~ - I. Required Quest. Fixed to level 15/scaled (not sure yet.) More details coming later. - II. Hidden path. Only available to Dragonlords. - III. Optional scaled quest. More details coming later. - IV. Optional scaled mini-quest chain. More details further in post. - V. The zone currently in DF: the town and Sek-duat's palace. - VI. The oasis of 'the oasis run'. As you can see, the current towns would be split up in three zones: * A levels 0-5 introduction zone. (Oaklore) * A levels 5-12 Dragonegg Saga zone. (Falconreach, Surewould Forest and Warlic's Area. Amityville, Lymcrest, Lady Celestia etc. would also be available at this time in this zone.) * A Level 12+ Orb Saga zone. (Sho'nuff Island, the Necropolis, the Sandsea, future orb locations.) Introduction Zone: Paths: 1. Oaklore-Falconreach. * Required Quest: Hydra Boss * Other Requirements: Lvl. 5 * Optional Quests: The Hydra Lair Dragonegg Zone: Paths: 1. Warlic's Area-Lymcrest. * Required Quest: None * Other Requirements: Must have finished the Xan quest chain. (excluding the titan fight.) * Optional Quests: None * Description: This path is attached to the path saying 'coming soon!' in Warlic's Area. You travel for about 2-3 screens in forestlike screens without anything happening. Then, you arrive at the river of Fire. If you have already completed the Xan chain, it's a normal river. There's an NPC standing next to the river. Walk up to him to talk to him. When Xan chain isn't completed: Ferryman: The river is on fire, mate. That means neither you or me can get to the other side. Ferryman: Maybe the wizard, Warlic can do something about this madness. When Xan chain is completed: Ferryman: Thanks again for helping getting the river back to normal. I'll bring you to the other side of the river for free. You'll be transported to the next screen. You walk for about 2-3 screens through a rocky landscape, and then you'll arrive at Lymcrest. From Lymcrest, you can go the same way back to get to Warlic's Zone again. Orb Zone: Paths: 1. Falconreach-Sho'Nuff Island. * Required Quest: Ship Repair * Other Requirements: Must have finished Dragon Egg saga to start the quest, and the quest boss is not scaled and impossible to beat under level 12. * Optional Quests: None * Description: For this path, go north in Falconreach. There should be a path that doesn't lead to the Guardian Tower but to the left, to Falconreach's beach. 2 or 3 screens later you are on the shore. There's a ship lying there with in front of it, standing on the beach, Rhubarb. His ship has suffered damage, and you must help him repair it. Once you've done so, you can sail to Sho'Nuff island. Rhubarb at the shore near Falconreach. Required Quest: Name: Ship Repair Requirements: Must have finished dragon egg saga. Monsters * 4 scaled Flame-ingos. * Boss: Shadowblade Master, fixed at level 12. Objective: Aquire ship parts needed for repairing Rhubarb's ship. Frames: 3: 1, 2, 3. Rewards: none Location: Path between Falconreach and Sho'nuff Island. After you have finished the quest, Rhubarb can take you to the island. More details coming later. 2. Sandsea miniquest chain. See Sandsea map for location. A brand new NPC - *Click!* , Alternate Image. - Optional Quest 1: Name: Raters of the Lost Art Requirements: None Objective: Dr. James has some old statues that he needs to know the price of. Talk to one of the patrons in the town's inn to get the papers containing all the information. Return these to Dr. James. Rewards: Location: See Sandsea map. Images: Dialog 1 - Dialog 2 - Optional Quest 2: Name: The Temple at Noon Requirements: Must have completed 'Raters of the Lost Art'. Objective: Dr. James wants the artifacts located in an ancient temple. Retrieve them for him. Quest: The player character and Dr. James (wearing a vaguely toglike hat on his head) are standing in front of the temple. The door is closed. Walk over to Dr. James to talk to him. Dialogue The door is now open. You can go in and defeat the six scaled togs. You then arrive in a treasure chamber and the end of the quest. Rewards: Coming later. Location: See Sandsea map. Images: Coming Later. - Optional Quest 3: Name: The Lost Spade Requirements: Must have completed 'The Temple at Noon'. This isn't really a quest. You can talk to James and he will give you his spade. It will be placed into your temporary inventory. With the spade, random places throughout the whole Sandsea area will be sparkly, like hidden healing pads are. If you click on one of these places while the spade is in your inventory, you can choose to dig. One of the following things happens: 15% - You dug up (your level x2) gold. 15% - You dug up an Ancient Treasure. 14% - You dug up an old fossile. (Junk item, sells for 40 gold) 14% - You dug up a Praire Dog. (Replaces your current pet. does 5-13 nature damage) 14% - You dug up an old Mummy. - Battle (This version would be the size of a normal human, not the huge thing in the Tomb) 14% - You dug up a Scar Scarab. - Battle. 14% - It's a spade-destroying booby-trap! - You need to go back to James to get the spade again. - Shop: Doctor James has a merge shop that opens up at the same time you get access to 'The Lost Spade' quest. If you bring 20 old fossiles to him, you can trade them for a 'Togosaur' house item, which sells for 500 gold. Lots more's still coming! Any suggestions can be PMed to me, and I'll reply as soon as possible. All of your input in the last thread helped the suggestion forward a lot, I hope it will do so again. --------- Credits: Original Dragonfable map by Deucalion2. Name of Illinois James by Kdawg2x2.
