arguing with your thoughts?
you do one thing, it thinks
another. you think one thought,
it's performed another.
the cat and mouse chase
around your mind
of the conscious
and subconscious
rolls on.

You could jump in now, but what if
you were wrong?
If you wait, you could test the water,
see what may occur.

But if you wait for later,
the water may be gone,
evaporated, and

left dry.

Always jump in.
Better to swim out,
pained,
than to crawl out,
broken.

how? through music
through rhythm and
art and writing
and dance and
combat and closing
your eyes and swaying
in the breeze, in the
beat of the sound
and notes.
the thoughts clash
and fight to get out
of the head into
the air and onto
the page where they sit
there waiting for you
or someone else
to look at, examine.
to understand and sympathize,
perhaps to inspire.
you analyze the beauty
of the thoughts and the flow
and release:
just release,
and release
your mind from the grasp
of cares and stress
and be.

the alarm disturbs you
roll over and check
6:45- too early
you slap the snooze button
miss
and hit it on the third try

you get up an hour later,
tumble out of bed,
glance outside
at the skies
eternally gray.

you get dressed, listening
and watching the rain
fall pitpat on the window
glass-like your consciousness
is fragile
slipping in and out of sleep
under skies
eternally gray.

the air is chilly but not cold enough
to warrant the wearing of the
jacket (that would be too warm)
but uncomfortable enough
with the rain to make you
curse the skies eternally gray.

for your sins, for your guilt
for your regrets and your lies
may your skies be eternally
gray.

the chaos crawling over
it
the madness and injustice and
unfairness that absolutely
dominates it
and allows some old wound
to be pried open
stuffed with salt
and vinegar
and stepped on
that old wound
that never seems to heal
that ridiculous wound

unecessary
inappropriate
deceitful
wound
called
love.

angry, lost,
so close, and yet
so far,
if only this had happened
if only that-
but the past is past.
life moves on.
moves on too quickly
too busily
like living on
a roller coaster
it's a theme park ride
with its ups and downs
spending forever climbing up,
higher and higher,
watching the ground
and people get
smaller
as
they're left behind,
just to fall.
fall back down
in an instant.
and there's nothing left
but the chaos that follows
corkscrews and loops and
confusion.
so why get on the ride
this roller coaster
so-called amusement
is it fun for you?
to have your heart lifted
to the top of the world
head in the clouds
then dropped into your stomach
that pit of acid
where it burns and festers
blisters and dies?
ridiculous.
but anger...
is not the cure.
anger is the past,
anger is hate,
revenge
fear
of what has happened.
anger consumes.
but when all is gone
inflamed and charred
there is always a seed
of hope buried
ready to sprout
and take root in
the ashes.

there's that connection
between the eyes and
the brain and the rest
of the body that
never seems to be
fulfilled when the time comes
to shut everything down
and the clouds obscure the vision
which in turn obscures the brain
and all hell breaks lose
and thoughts wander too far
too soon and fast
and words that can't
be unwritten or unread
it's times like that you wish
you had
a time machine.
