Investigate a possible UFO sighting with the help of the Huntress and Yulgar, and discover a powerful set of items!
It was a clear and calm night… (Not a very spooky beginning, eh?)
*A UFO aircraft can be seen crashing in the fields*
The next day…
You: Huntress! Yulgar! It’s good to see the two of you here. I was worried I would be the only one investigating the sighting of a falling star…
The Huntress: Please keep your voice down, <Your name>-- we spotted movement in the crops just a moment ago!
You: In the crops? Why don’t we just search through the fields then?
Yulgar: Are you kidding me?? Rule number one of the X-file-- er, I mean, of searching for aliens, is NEVER EVER walking into a field of tall crops.
You: Well, we DO have swords and hammers and amour and magic to help us. It’s not like we’re really totally VULNERABLE to attack.
Yulgar: Hmmm. Yeeeaahh. Huntress, do you have armor? Because I don’t have armor. We should probably get some armor.
Huntress: Well, I do not need armor. Are you saying that you NEED armor, manly blacksmith of Battleon?
Yulgar: ……….
Yulgar: No?
You: The two of you can stand out here while I look through the fields. Don’t worry, I won’t take long—
Yulgar: Oh look! A little blob of metal! And it smells of rotten eggs. How cute!
The Huntress: IT IS NOT CUTE. That thing is a Protean, a member of one of the races under control of the Devourer! It must be destroyed!
Yulgar: My turn to smash!
You: Wait!! I think it’s trying to COMMUNICATE with us!
Yulgar: Communicate? What’s that mean?
You: Okay, maybe it should just talk to ME. You two take a rest-break, and maybe a stress test.
You: Greetings from Lore. WE COME IN PEACE. Oh wait, that’s supposed to be YOUR line. Sorry. So do you come in peace?
You: GEEEYAAAAAHHH!!!!! KILL IT! KILL IT NOW!
Protean: No, please. I am merely morphing into a shape conductive to creating the vibrations necessary to speak with you.
You: *whew* And quite a pleasing shape it is, I might add. You look like a big number 2, which is an even number. And even numbers have positive connotations
Protean: Um, right. ANYWAY, I have some bad news. A ship load of Proteans, members of the Devourer’s Network out to enslave or destroy the universe, crashed here just last night.
You: That WOULD be bad, I suppose, except you are small and rather weak when compared to other enemies we’ve faced.
Protean: We Proteans can join with other creatures as symbiotes and enhance their power, and also give them the ability to morph into living weapons.
You: Now you have my attention.
Protean: An individual of our race is formed by billions of metallic crystals, held together with an electromagnetic force. This makes us much stronger than we appear.
Protean: There IS some good news, however. I am one of the few Proteans who fight against the Devourer. I forced the ship to crash. But I am wounded.
Protean: I need to find the other Proteans who are on my side—YOUR side as well so that I can heal. If you help me find them, I will give you some of our technology.
Protean: We Proteans will be come PROTECTORS of Lore. You will be able to get a pet, shield, weapon and armor if we succeed.
You: Ooh, an ARMOR, too? When one of you joins with me as a symbiote, will I suddenly be wearing a BLACK SUIT and have an ATTITUDE?
Protean: No. A Protean symbiotic armor is silver. But quite stylish, if I say so myself.
Protean: If the entire set is equipped at once, your powers will increase dramatically. So what say you, new friend? Will you help me?
Choice:
Yes - Continues the quest.
No - Gets you back to Battleon.
Protean: Thank you! We must journey over the hills to the east to reach the other crash site. We will surely meet some Network Proteans, and some may have already become symbiotes.
