[1.]
Introduction

This guide was created to answer the age old question of "What is the best non-member/member weapon?".

The answer to the question is that there isn't any best non-member/member weapon.

This is because all weapons share a DPS befitting to their enhancement level.

[2.]
Examples

Don't believe me? Here's some examples. Notice how the weapons have different damage ranges.

Format/Definitions

[Weapon]

  • DMG: The weapon's damage range.
  • W: The weapon's damage width. This is calculated from the difference of the weapon's damage range's upper boundary and lower boundary.
  • M: The weapon's damage mean, average, or midpoint. This is calculated from the addition of all of the weapon's damage range's values divided by the damage width or the addition of the weapon's damage range's upper limit and lower limit divided by two.
  • DPS: The weapon's damage per second. This is calculated from the division of the weapon's damage mean, average, or midpoint divided by two given that your class attacks every two seconds.

[2.1]
Non-Member Enhancement Level 8 Example

Warrior Claymore Blade

  • DMG:72-88
  • W: 88.5-71.5=17
  • M:(72+73+74+75+76+77+78+79+80+81+82+83+84+85+86+87+88)/17=(72+88)/2=80
  • DPS: 80/2=40

VS.

Big 100K

  • DMG: 70-90
  • W: 90.5-69.5=21
  • M: (70+90)/2=80
  • DPS: 80/2=40

See? For a weapon (Non-Member or Member it just so happens these are two Non-Member weapons) enhanced to level 8 it will have a DPS of 40.

[2.2]
Member Enhancement Level 17 Example

Unarmed

  • DMG: 88-88
  • W: 88.5-89.5=1
  • M: 88/1=88
  • DPS: 88/2=44

VS.

FrostReaver 09

  • DMG: 34-142
  • W: 142.5-33.5=109
  • M: (34+142)/2=88
  • DPS: 88/2=44

See it again? For a weapon (Non-Member or Member it just so happens these are two Member weapons) enhanced to level 17 it will have a DPS of 44.

[3.]
Why do all weapons have the same DPS befitting their enhancement level?

As you now know all weapons have the same DPS befitting to their enhancement level, but you might ask, "Why?".

This is because the AE staff has done a great job balancing the weapons which makes possible that everyone can have their favorite weapon even if it is a Broken Dagger or Rusted Sword and have it rival the power of weapons like the Godly Mace of the Ancients or the Godly Golden Dragon Mace because we all should know it's not the size nor the look of the weapon that counts it's how you wield it.

[4.]
What weapon should I use?

Now, even though what I've said before is true, I hope you've noticed that some weapons have different damage widths which makes them better for different things and you might ask, "What weapon should I use?".

Well, with a greater damage width you have a chance to deal very high damage despite having a chance to deal very low damage as well, but this is very useful in PvP where you'll need the chance to knock down your opponents' HP in a flash and slightly useful in PvE if you want the chance to knock down some low HP enemies in a flash.

Then, with a lower damage width you have a chance to deal very constant medium damage and this is useful in PvE to deliver that constant medium damage against enemies with very high health where if you had a greater damage width and you dealt very low damage too many times you may lose the fight.

[5.]
Weapon Enhancement Information

So where does that leave us?

Well, this leaves us with what I want this guide to do which is to help people find the weapons with the damage widths they want with the highest non-member and member enhancements that are on the Live Servers (1-17).

First of all Cool Guide, a suggestion might be that you 'List' R, M and DPS. eg

quote:

Big 100K Lvl 8
RNG: 70-90
W: 90.5-69.5=21
M: (70+90)/2=80
DPS: 80/2=40

Could look like:

Big 100k Lvl 8

  • RNG: 70-90
  • W: 90.5-69.5=21
  • M: (70+90)/2=80
  • DPS: 80/2=40

You could also put some Lines through your Guide to seperate different parts. You can do this by pressing the 'hr' button in the space where you want the line. eg

quote:

Note:
RNG: The damage range.
W: The damage width.
M: The damage mean, average, or midpoint.
DPS: The damage per second given that you're using a class that attacks every two seconds.

Okay, so now that we know that all weapons do the same DPS why would it matter what weapon I use?

Could look like:

Note:
RNG: The damage range.
W: The damage width.
M: The damage mean, average, or midpoint.
DPS: The damage per second given that you're using a class that attacks every two seconds.

Or Even:

Note:
RNG: The damage range.
W: The damage width.
M: The damage mean, average, or midpoint.
DPS: The damage per second given that you're using a class that attacks every two seconds.

Another Suggestion is that you Left Align your text, some people might not be used to reading Centre Alignment. But overall it's up to you, other than that, as I said, Cool Guide.

How exactly, is this going to help and be useful to players?

I mean I'm looking at the guide myself, and I play as a non-member and I don't see how this is helpful to players. Sure I've seen a few ask what the best weapon is. But if there really is no best weapon ever, than what exactly is the purpose of this guide?

Well, Dragonnightwolf, this is going to be useful to players because...

Firstly, this guide will show that there is no best weapon.

Secondly, this guide will explain why there are weapons with different weapon ranges.

Thirdly, this guide will explain how to use different weapon ranges.

Fourthly, this guide will show the weapons with different weapon ranges which I would hope eventually make it to the wiki since this is very tedious.

...

Lastly... I'm confident this guide will help someone.

All right. You've given me some rather strong points as to why this guide is helpful.

Should I come up with any other questions, I shall comment on them. Dnw.

After some discussion with Skydrite and some careful re-reading of the points made. I am retracting my above commentary. Dnw.

In my opinion the Guide looks a lot more professional, there is just one other thing that you may want add:

From 'Enhancement Level DPS' Downwards, you could possibly make those title's a bit bigger, so they will stand out to the reader and let them now what they are reading.

Other than that, looking cool. =)

Dnw, glad to see you've come around.

Leu, thanks for your comments on the design.

Keep the feedback coming, it's very much appreciated.

The only thing that I can suggest layout wise is that you possibly use color?
The Boldness already breaks up the text but you might want to still have a transition, and color does that.
If you are going to use color I suggest you only use it on the titles, that you keep it the same color all throughout and that you pick a colour that is easy on the eyes but still relevant to the Guide.

Other than that looking pretty good.

It's a good guide. But what of the lvl 20 enhancements on the PTR server? Just thought I'd questioned that.

I'm assuming this Guide is focusing on the Live Servers.

Imp, Leu is right.

I'm only focusing on the Live Server enhancements.

Once you can directly enhance your weapons to level 18-20 via the live servers those levels will be listed.

And Leu, I'm pondering colors. Might have some tomorrow.

Nope. Got nothing. Can't think of what colors I want. Any suggestions?

This is definately a good start to your guide.

And I can see it being helpful.

Some ideas that I suggest in MQ Guides and I would consider adding here would be:

  • Detailing where enhancements can be recieved, the rate at which enhancements increase in price, etc.
  • Suggested weapons for beginners and where to find them.
  • Personality, make the guide more like a friendly tutorial than a text book. It will help the reader be able to stay here longer. Just because it is a guide, don't think you can't use some literary tools to make it more appealing!

Great job so far!

Also, when looking for ways to improve your guide, you can always check the other approved guides:

MQ Guides<-PD and I have a feature in these guides too help readers use the Search function to cycle through the guide quicker. It wouldn't be a bad idea.

Sorry Duncan, but I disagree on the idea about putting in a suggestion of what free players may want to start with.

Free players start with the primary start up weapon when their char is created and than can go buy some enhanced weaponry from that intro area.

And it's apparent that I had not made myself clear in my previous post. When I said I was retracting my former statement. I didn't mean I was agreeing with the guide writer.

I was stating that from that particular post where i had said "those are some strong points etc" is where I was retracting what I had said. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

Also. allow me to point something else out politely Duncan. Mechquest guides and any/all other guide forums have their own place, it's perfectly fine to offer suggestions, but each guide area pertains to a different game entirely. Mechquest has probably a higher rate of enhancements than AQW and would therefore not really apply to the particular levels of our aqw players.

@DNW: Correct, and I was not saying that this guide should in any way mimic that of the other guides, merely stating that some of the features in those guides could be helpful in this one.

I am not familiar with the DF guides, but I have noticed some really awesome ideas in the MQ Guides, like the search function, that could be used nicely here.

For lvl 1 range (x-x) Yopu can also add Cruel Hydra blade for non-members, it has 56-56 at lvl 1, which means it's Unarmd for non-members.

Good Guide, but a suggestion could be;
Well basically the wording is a bit hard to read
Maybe try a different aligning.
But other then that like i said its a good guide.
Im sure it would be very helpful for some people.
