Ever worry that someone might hack you? Don't think your password is strong enough? Well here's the solution. If you want to avoid being hacked follow all these steps and your password will stand up to any hacker. Credit to Cysero for making a Design Notes post which inspired me to make this.
1. NEVER tell ANYONE your password. I know it says this every time you log on but it simply can't be stressed enough. Whether you're offered gold ACs exp items membership reputation points class points or becoming a mod DO NOT give away your password. Not even to a moderator. They do not need to ask you for your password to modify your account. There are NO undercover moderators either a moderator will only do work on their accounts.
2. Don't use your real name or username as your password. Eventually you'll fight with someone in life or AQW and they'll hack you in revenge.
3. Don't save your password or username on a public computer. This is like telling a burglar where you live and giving them the key to your house. Everything will be gone in no time at all. Don't save your password on a family computer either. Your siblings might hack your account when they get mad at you. The only computer you should save your username and password on is YOUR PERSONAL computer. Meaning a computer that only YOU use.
4. Avoid obvious passwords. Anything like "password" or "secret" is easy to guess and almost guarantees you getting hacked.
5. Make your password as long as possible. AQW passwords can be up to 25 characters long. Try to use all 25. At bare minimum use at least 15. Passwords under 10 characters will get hacked easily.
6. Use capital AND lowercase letters. AQW passwords are case sensitive meaning if someone tries to hack you and uses a lowercase letter where it should be capitalized it won't work. Mix it up a lot.
7. Use numbers when possible. Numbers are allowed mix them in with letters and your password will be much stronger.
8. Use punctuation and spacing. By using things like ? ! $ and other punctuation marks you are making it that much harder for a hacker to crack your password.
9. Don't use words that are tied to you. If you are famous for your love of cupcakes don't put cupcakes or any variation of that word in your password. Taken from Cysero's Design Notes post:
quote:

None of my passwords ever had the words sock or yogurt in them.

10. Mix up the types of characters in your password. Don't type some letters then numbers then punctuation. Mix them up a bit. Like put some letters then numbers then letters then punctuation or something like that.
11. Change your passwords often. Should you feel that your password isn't strong enought change it significantly. Don't just add or change a character change it completely. Only change your password to something as strong or stronger. Don't go from a 25 character password with letters numbers and punctuation in it to a 10 character password with just letters.

Steps to creating a better, more secure password are undoubtedly helpful.. especially with so many new people constantly joining the community. Although, ..I don't think the subject is appropriate enough to the point where it needs a whole guide devoted to it.
Moreover, and primarily the biggest problem I have with this guide, is that the steps shown above are effectively based on common-sense. The information can also be found in a number of different places, so I see no benefit in just repeating what has already been said.

With the above in mind, I'm going to lock this as the information can be found elsewhere and there really isn't a need for an entire guide on this subject.

I'll be happy to address or answer any concerns/questions about this decision via PM.

Locked,
-Laos
