Firstly, what is a trigger item?
A trigger item, is an item that, "adjusts" or "changes" (usually in appearance as well as stats and usually beneficial for you e.g increased BtH) when you do something specific (usually fighting a particular element of monster or a particular category of monster).
Can only weapons trigger?
No. Trigger items aren't limited to only weapons. Every equipment type have triggers. Yes, even a little Baby Frogzard can have a trigger.
What types of triggers are discussed in this guide?
I will be mostly concentrating on Players' Equipment Triggers. Monsters can have their own triggers on the Player but they are usually harder to find and catalog.
Base Element Triggers
A base element trigger item will trigger when you fight a monster of a specific base element.
Monster Category Triggers
Monster category triggers is the biggest group. There are some very broad monster categories (e.g undead, dragon), others are very small and specific like Robot.
Name Triggers
Name triggers are items that trigger when you fight a monster with a specific word in the monster's name. Most items that use name triggers are older ones that were made before monster categories were introduced.
Triggers Based on Your Character's Profile
Equipment that triggers due to your Alignment (Good/Evil/Unity/Chaos), Clan, Class Title, Subrace, Blocking Ability, Ability to get Damaged, and how many battle turns have passed.
Specific Spells or Damage Type Required Triggers
Triggers that require a particular elemental spell like fire/ice or damage type like ranged/melee.
Specific Equipment Required Triggers
Triggers that require specific equipment like Berserker Hides to work.
Specific Status Conditions, Element Seek, and Other Triggers
Basically any Triggers that don't really fit the other categories.
Status Condition Triggers react on conditions like burnt or blind. Element seeking Equipment looks for the weakest resistance and changes accordingly to attack that one.
Why do I want trigger items?
Generally when an item is triggered, it's stronger than most items in that level range. Most people do not buy and use a valuable slot, specifically for trigger weapons though. Most of the time, they are just an extra bonus or incentive to buy the item. Sometimes during wars, where there are a lot of a specific category of monster, the staff may organize a temporary item with a trigger to combat said monster, to help you out.
Are there any disadvantages to trigger items?

Most new triggers will have both an up-trigger and a down-trigger so that the weapon would be slightly weaker than another weapon of the same Power Level when used against a monster that it does not trigger against.
For example, with the Dragon Blade, when used against non-Dragon monsters your attacks deal 90% damage while against Dragon-type monsters you'll do 120% damage.
I've seen some old trigger items that say +x base and +y random instead of as a percentage. What does this actually mean?

Why is the item linked doesn't match the name given? ie. Communicant Weapon Series links to Acolyte's Recognition
Most of the items below have multiple versions and names. If I linked up all of them, it would make the guide very messy as almost every item would be at least a line or two long. I also could not find a good way to list Guardian/Rare/Z-Token along with the multiple versions without making the guide look like a wall of text. So, I have, when possible, linked to the lowest level, non-Guardian, and gold version of the various items. You can follow the links to the item that fits your needs.

Element Seeking Triggers means the equipment element seeks against specific element groups. Status Conditions Specific Triggers means the monster/player has to be inflicted with a certain condition (ie poisoned) in order to Trigger.
Other Triggers means they don't fit in any of the other catagories.
Element SeekStatus ConditionsDepends on Player's current HP Amount. Triggers when Player is above/below «HP Percentage»
Depends on Player's current MP Amount. Triggers when Player is above/below «Percentage»
