The Hound is Watching...

This thread continues as a centralized hub to ask for and give answers about Mastercraft items as they currently exist. Please do not ask what they may be like at some point in the future, or what items will be considered Mastercrafts at X time, or anything similar. To quote a section of the AQ Q&A FAQ:

quote:

Game-related questions

Questions about "When will _____ happen?" "When is _____ coming out?" "What is going to happen next !?" "Is _____ going to ________?" "Why isn't _____ in the game?" and the like - don't ask. Most of the time, we do NOT know. The ONLY time that we would know is if there is an announcement by the staff.

This thread does still need to abide by the AQ Q&A Forum Rules. Please use the information and links below to find the answers to any questions before asking them here.

  • Question: What is the definition of a mastercrafted item?
    Answer: To quote Chii:
    quote:

    What Mastercraft means:

Mastercrafted items have extra power, versatility, or abilities which are paid for by having a higher price than normal items, instead of having penalties which would otherwise balance out the item's power so that it remained roughly equal to other normal items. A normal weapon with a trigger could deal 110% damage to undead, 95% damage to normal monsters, but a Mastercrafted weapon would deal 110% damage to undead and 100% damage to normal monsters, in exchange for having a higher price. That is Mastercrafting, partner. Accept no substitutes.
    quote:

Mastercrafting increases the cost of an item by 10% and yields one of the following:

    1) Passive increase of one of the item's parameters (such as damage or BTH) by 5%
    2) Enabling of the item to have a "free" trigger effect (generally increasing damage by 10%) without a downtrigger state
    3) Reducing penalties associated with having expensive effects
    4) Enabling the item to have a "free" skill without a compression penalty (but still having item compression pricing where applicable)
    5) Combinations of the above or other similar effects

In other words, it gives the item abilities and whatnot in exchange for costing more, whereas normal items wind up being weaker if they have any of these.

All sets have different tiers. From most powerful to least powerful, the tiers are called Mythical, Flawless, Epic, Greater, Standard, Lesser, Least and Token (originally Epic, Greater, Lesser and Least). The order and links of these sets can be found towards the end of this FAQ.

Question: Where can these "Mastercraft" items be found?
    Answer:
    • The Asgardian Set can be bought at the end of the Thunder Mountain quest, which can be found when traveling south on the travel map. During the quest, you will come across several different shops, selling pets and the lesser sets. You can continue your quest if you choose to buy something from one shop.

    • The Nemesis Set can be found by visiting Warlic's shop and doing the quest Justice Goes Blind.

    • The Overlord, Twilight, and Communicant along with their lesser variants are located in Alnaphar, which can be found when traveling south on the travel map. Choose either the Quest for the Overlord Set, the Quest for the Twilight Set or, click on the rainbow for the Golden Set.

    • The Fujin Set and its lesser versions can be bought in the Bridge to the Sky on the travel map. In the quest, you will first find the shop for the Anemos and Ventus sets. You can continue the quest if you choose to enter the shop and buy parts of the sets. At the end of the quest, you can choose to either go for the Vayu or for the Fujin sets. After you have made your choice and you want to buy something from the other shop, you have to play through the quest again.

    • The Kindred Set and its lesser versions can be bought after completing the quest, accessible from Travel Map -> Sail East -> The Kindred!

    • The Chimeran Sets can be purchased after completing The Chimeran Set (Travel Map -> The Chimeran Set).

    • The Morningstar Set can be found on the Travel Map > Morningstar Set.

    • The Taladosian Set is a walk-around quest called Taladosian Relics.

Question: What happens if I own one of the items, but my character level is now lower than the item's level requirement?
Answer: You can still use your item just like before the change. The level requirement is only used to determine which level you need to buy the item, and not which level you need to use it.

Question: Will there be a refund for players who bought the sets before the prices were lowered?
Answer: No. To quote from Captain Rhubarb:
    quote:

    ORIGINAL: Captain Rhubarb

No, not this time. You all likely used Ballyhoo to get enough gold to buy the items, and Ballyhoo is now giving out less gold. So it all works out fairly.

Thanks to Chii for posting the information about these changes
On 13Jun09, the KoO revealed some of their post-Sweep plans for the mastercrafted sets. Details are posted below:

Question: So what levels will they be placed at?
Answer: This chart should help explain how the new mastercraft system will work.
    |-------------------|---------------|---------------|---------------|
    | Old Tier | Old Level | Current Tier | Current Level |
    |-------------------|---------------|---------------|---------------|
    | | | Token | 11 |
    | | | Least | 45 |
    | Least | 55 | Lesser | 60 |
    | Lesser | 70 | Standard | 75 |
    | | | Greater | 90 |
    | Greater | 85 | Epic | 105 |
    | Epic | 105 | Flawless | 120 |
    | | | Mythical | 135 |
    | | | Legendary | 150 |
    |-------------------|---------------|---------------|---------------|
As an example, the current "Epic" sets (Asgardian and Fujin) are L105 in requirement to purchase but have a power level of PL120. Thus, their swept level requirement will be L120 and will be considered "Flawless" sets. Kindred set is of the same tier but was crafted upon more current standards, so it will maintain L120.

Question: Will outdated mastercraft sets receive versions at higher tiers? Essentially, will Kindred, Asgardian, and Fujin which are at the Flawless tier receive Mythical and Legendary versions?
Answer: Yes. If a mastercrafted set lacks one or more of the above versions, more versions will be made to fill those gaps.

Question: Will there be any sorts of changes made to the individual items of a mastercrafted set?
Answer: Any individual piece of a mastercrafted set will be granted some kind of special effect or ability, to differentiate it from normal equipment. This ability will be added in addition to normal post-Sweep standard numbers (meaning it will be a bonus effect).

Question: What is a Full Set Bonus?
Answer: The full set bonus is a bonus you get when wearing all parts of a mastercrafted or lesser mastercrafted set. For information about these bonuses, please visit the Weapons section of the AQ Encyclopedia.

Question: Will I still get a Full Set Bonus to trigger if I have lesser versions of a set?
Answer: Yes, but it'll work the same as it has previously. That is, you'll only get a Full Set Bonus at the level of the lowest piece of equipment in your set. So for example, if you have a L105 version of the weapon and armor, but only a L85 version of the shield, you'll only get the L85 version of the Full Set bonus.

Question: What about pets? Will you add pets to sets which don't have pets? And will they be required in order to get the Full Set Bonus?
Answer: We will be adding pets to any set which doesn't have them. It is possible that we may give them a small power bonus when used with the set (though at this time, we are undecided as to what that might be). However, you will NOT be required to use the pet in order to activate the Full Set Bonus.

Thanks to Lord Barrius for posting the information about these plans

@ chuntingpro I don't think having a MC armor for each element is necessarily a target of the AQ team.

Edit: @Killa My point was that I believe the AQ team is not trying to necessarily craft the mastercraft sets so there will be one for each element, my bad if I didn't make my point clear.

There almost certainly won't be a MC set for every attacking style, as there are so many just for each element.

Since my explanation of mastercrafting is somewhat inadequate, here's what I had intended to post in the last thread on the subject:

Is it possible to increase an MC'ed armor's damage by even 10%, for the penalty of costing another *1.1 on top of the already applied MC boost?

so... let's say that a weapon can toggle between 2 elements AND can inflict bleed...

would that be possible if... let's say the weapon had an MC boost AND did some self harm per turn in order to have no penalty for dual elemental nature and a lesser penalty for bleed?

Increased damage should lead to costs being increased exponentially, so if there was ever a thought from the AQ staff about increasing MC bonus, I would say something closer to ^1.1 cost.

Asgardian is intended as a Neutral armor. However, it's currently on old standards, and thus weaker than it should be (and weaker than the other sets). You're better off sticking to other sets for the time being. When it gets swept, though, it'll be up to par with the other MCs.

If I grab it now, would it still be in its original old standard or will it be "swept" as well?
Btw, will the price of the Asgardian change once it's swept? (Will it increase or decrease?)

The existing tiers will have the *1.1 MC cost applied to them, as I believe they aren't actually MC'd currently. If the 105 tier gets upgraded to 120, then the sellback will change (so if you bought the 105 version, it would be upgraded to 120, and hence the sellback would increase), but the actual price of the tiers won't change bar the *1.1 MC cost.

Also, might it be worth including the 'Supreme' tier in the original post?

To be accurate, the prices once Asgard is swept will be exactly the same as for other swept MC sets, such as Morningstar and Twilight.
If you buy the items now, they'll be weak, but once they're swept, they'll get a level boost and get priced accordingly. Although we might have to wait for a while before the Asgard set is swept...

EDIT: @Duskstar: Is Supreme the official name for the 150 tier?

Asgardian, I believe, was intended to be between Nemesis and Shadow sets in stat leanings, and back then their leans weren't all that clearly defined. Now that Nemesis is neutral and ShadowTwilight is fully defensive, Asgardian will probably be mid-defensive after it's been swept and MC'd.

IIRC Chii also clarified that Fujin was indeed intended to be FD and will be; however, Asgardian was intended to be MD, and may either be MD or netural when it's revamped; its undecided (IIRC)

yep. Asgard will most likely be MD if it will focus on three secondaries like it does now or it may just end up being neutral.

And yeah... not many MC ranged weapons out there.... But add Chimeran spears to that list :P

(there are no 135 versions of that but still.. it's a ranged MC set weapon so don't forget about it)

Kindred is on interim standards, but is intended to be a FO Water armor, or at least that's what I was told. It has a Magic weapon, though.

So, Asgardian, MD. Fujin, FD. Golden, FD. Kindred, FO.

Asgard is a bit of a ?" because the staff said it was supposed to be MD initially but it could become neutral, depending on what they have in mind.
