The current system is also in place to prevent stockpiling of items, when you don't really need to - like people did with Chairman Bux, and Infernal Gems. It only cloggs up the database. You have a lot of items that can be sold without much loss - Primary cores if you won't use them, use the Arcade Tokens, and the Arcade rewards.
Also, Misc. items work in the same way as others - once you hit the inventory cap with Misc items, you cannot buy any more items either. Misc items take your inventory space.
