but it's still up to date
woo

Simplified Guide here: google documents link

The Aims of this guide are to:
  1. Define boosts and give players an understanding of how they function.
  2. To provide players with a comprehensive and up-to-date list of all boost items available in the game, and give a brief overview of their availability in-game. This includes whether they require being a Legend or spending AC at any time during the process of the items acquisition. It also includes whether the items are currently available, rare, or only available seasonally/during certain events.
  3. This guide does not aim to show players how to obtain these items, with the exception of the recomended boosts section. Every item is linked to it's relevant Wiki page, so players can find this information themselves.
The list of boost items is color-coded to provide information more efficiently.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: What are boosts?
A:
Boosts are a percentage based increase that range from 1% to 120%. They can be related to damage (increase damage to Humans, Undead, Monsters, ect), or related to Reputation Gains, Gold, Experience, or Class Points. You can obtain boosts by using consumable items that give you a timed boost, or you can wear equipment that gives you specific boosts while equipped.

Q: Do boosts from equipment stack?
A: In the normal servers, you will only benefit from the last equipment of each type of boost you equip. For example, if you equip a Helmet with +5% Experience, then equip a Cape with +3% Experience, only the Capes +3% bonus will apply and you must unequip and re-equip the helmet to recieve its 5% boost instead. Different boosts can apply simultaneously (e.g. Reputation boost from Cape, Chaos damage boost from Weapon, Damage to all monsters boost from Armor, Gold boost from Helmet).

In the Testing Servers and Server Rewrite client, boosts from all equipped items stack, even if they are of the same type. For example, equipping four pieces of the Archfiend Doomlord set will give you +100% Reputation, Gold, Experience, Class Points, and +60% Damage to All Monsters.

Q: Do timed boosts from consumable items stack with boosts on your equipment?
A: Yes. For example, A Sword with a 25% Gold boost and a timed boost for +100% Gold will stack if both are in use.

In the normal servers, equipment boosts and timed boosts are multiplicative. For example, if you have +25% reputation from an equipment, then you will recieve 125% reputation. If you also use a consumable timed boost that gives +100% experience, your current boost of 125% will be doubled to 250%.

In the Testing Servers and Server Rewrite Client, equipment boosts and timed boosts are additive. For example, if you have +25% reputation from an equipment, then you will recieve 125% reputation. If you also use a consumable timed boost that gives +100% experience, you will gain an extra 100%, giving you a total of 225%. You also have the potential to gain up to 315% reputation if you equip 4 pieces of equipment with 25% reputation and a pet with 15% reputation.

Guide for reading the list of boost items

In the list of boost items, there are sections for each boost type. Each of these sections will have headings for Weapons, Armors, Helmets, Capes, Pets, and consumable items which provide timed boosts. As an example, Armor of Awe is shown like this in the Gold section under the Armor heading:
Armor of Awe (25% + 25% 25% 25%)

By referencing Color-Coding Demonstration below, you will be able to quickly see that it is Obtainable and not Legend only, because Armor of Awe is blue and not bold/italic. The boosts are also shown as percentages and colour coded accordingly in the brackets. Since it is in the Gold section, the gold boost is shown first, and then all other boosts are ordered and shown after the plus sign.

This means Armor of Awe will appear in the Reputation, Experience, and Class point sections too, with the relevant boost displayed first. This is so comparisons can be made in each section while considering other boosts each item may possess. If you are only interested in a specific type of boost, go to the simplified list or only look at the first percentage next to each item.

(Legend*) = The item itself is non-Legend but due to its requirements, it can only be obtained by Legends. Check the wiki for more details if this tag applies.

(AC*) = The item itself doesn't cost AC, but obtaining it requires other items which must be purchased with AC. If you were to buy the required AC items, then you could obtain this item and resell the AC items within 24 hours of purchasing, for a refund of 90% of their AC value. Check the wiki for more details if this tag applies.

Note: Damage to all monsters includes all enemies in Adventure Quest Worlds.

Recommended Boost Items:

Cape of Awe (25% 25% 25% 25%). Obtain this item as soon as possible. To get this cape, you'll have to accept one of three Cape of Awe quests from Valencia at the Museum, then kill Binky once, either at Binky or Doom Vault. While one of the three quests is accepted, Binky will drop the Cape Shard, which can be merged into a Cape Fragment, then a Cape Relic, then the Cape of Awe. Bring some people to help you kill Binky, or check Doom Vault regularily for parties you can join for 1 kill. The requirements for the three Cape of Awe quests are listed below (you only need to complete ONE of them for the Cape of Awe):

1) Cape of Awe: At least Level 55, Rank 10 Blade of Awe
2) Guardian Cape of Awe: At least Level 35, Rank 5 Blade of Awe, Verified Guardian account on AdventureQuest
3) Legendary Cape of Awe: Must be a Legend.

Arcane Blade of Glory (20%) OR Shadow Blade of Despair (20%) This weapon is ideal for low level players trying to level up. It is very easy to obtain from the Loot Chest's Quests and Merge Shop. You'll find this chest at River.

Burning Blade (2) (15%) Obtainable as a 1% drop from the Diabolical Warlord at Lost Ruins War There are usually many people killing this boss, so you can go and farm him for the weapon whenever you feel like it.

Special Event and Other Boosts:

In Battleon, you can complete Valencia's Daily Quest, and exchange the Realm Gems you receive for 20 minute Class Point boosts. Legends can claim a free 1 hour boost in either Reputation, Gold, Experience or Class Points from Ragnar at Battleon every day. There are also Daily Login Rewards. By logging in consecutively, you have a chance at receiving a free 20 or 60 minute timed boost item. One each for Reputation, Gold, Class Points, and Experience.

The staff may occasionally have serverwide boost events, these can be anything from Double EXP Weekends, A boost event tied to a seasonal event like Summer Boost Blast, or a boost event unlocked for all players as a reward for progressing in a War Event.

Another way to get timed boost items is the Game Booster AC Add-On for $5 extra, providing 7 (1 hour) Reputation, Class Points, Gold, and EXP Boosts (for a total of 28, with a 4200 AC Value), along with 50,000 gold.

Thanks, that's one of the many relics left in this guide, like weapons from Nulgath Challenger Pet not having a Rare tag yet, or Dragon Blade only dealing 5% damage.

Also, I'm assuming the boost of Brutalhead +3 is actually +3. The Wiki notes says it's -5%.

You probably want to double check with Rickyb20 on the Brutalhead to see if it's been fixed, but the reason the Wiki notes it at -5% is because it's bugged and not working as intended.

*insert cheesy pun here*

quote:

1) Should Rare items from the Wheel of Destiny/Doom have a slightly different shade of green to distinguish them from other Rares? (makes it easier for people to find them, and look for them in their buyback shop)

Now that Wheel is gone, there's no point in doing that. Anyone looking through their buyback for these should be using Ctrl+F anyways.

quote:

2) Is it necessary to have a list of Boosts by item type, like the previous guide? I thought it was of no practical use, as the items are sorted by item type in each list of "Boosts by Damage/Reward type", but I'm open to suggestions.

Mentioning item type will be relevant for the post-rewrite server.
As of now, sorting them as boost category -> item type -> boost amount should be the best way to do that.

quote:

3) Does alphabetical order matter at all? Should items be ordered by their % increases instead?

Definitely percent over alphabetical. If someone's looking for the best item, they're going to be looking at the numbers.

quote:

4) Is the idea of separating items by Obtainable/Seasonal/Rare within each list better or worse?

Just leave it as a note, maybe separating them out if the best-in-slot is a long-gone item.
Separating into too many categories is counterproductive.

Almost done. There's a lot less useful boost items than I thought there were would be. Even amongst the rares, the only best-in-slots are Doom Lord Sepulchure Helm (for Undead and Human), Arara Caos, Ceremonial Void Sword pet, the items in Elemental Damage, and all the Pets that give Gold/Rep boost.

Also, does the All Monsters boost mean you'll deal extra damage to every fightable enemy, or only against enemies who don't have a tag?

Constructive & Helpful!

Dmg2all includes everything, any fightable thing, even players in PvP, even yourself (you deal more damage to yourself with Soul Cleaver's and Scarlet Sorceress' last skills, can't remember the names on top of my head), it also increases any "instant healing" like Oracle, Archpaladin, Lightcaster, Evolved Darkcaster, Troll Spellsmith etc. Heals with numbers as big as normal damage numbers.
HoTs and DoTs are not affected by any sort of damage boosts.

I apologize for such a long delay. Things have been rather hectic and there've been a few issues along the way, but here's what we've come up with. The guide, in terms of accuracy, is pretty much there, with just a few minor issues. However, there are a number of thing we'd like you to consider before approving the guide.

quote:

Boosts are percentage based (0% - 100%) bonuses or additions, to damage or a reward. They can be a passive equip, or an active timed boost.
Technically, they go as high as 120% due to C. Unlocked's Drakath trigger. The wording on the second sentence is also a bit strange, would probably be better as "They can be passive from equipment, or active from a timed boost"
quote:

In the current servers, you will only benefit from the last item of each type of boost you equip. So for example if you equip a +5% experience armour first, then equip a +3% experience cape, you're only going to benefit from the +3% bonus and not any experience gear boost from before. Different boosts can also be used together (ex: reputation boost from cape, damage boost from weapon, gold boost from helm) and active timed boosts will stack with gear boosts.
Probably want to mention that racial and universal boosts stack. The biggest factor being with AFDL, as there are four pieces of equipment (two helms, a cape, and the armour) that can be used and stacked with racial weapons. Likewise, the 15% weapons of which there are a lot can stack with other equipment.
quote:

In the Testing servers and Server Rewrite client, boosts from all equipped items and active timed boosts will stack. The purpose of this guide is to help people find the best-in-slot (that they can obtain) items for a specific boost.
May just want to elaborate on this a little more: explain how the stacking works to show that you can get 100% boost from four pieces of 25% items, for example.
quote:

Q: Where can I find more information on boost items?
A: Refer to Here for Updated AQW boost tagged wiki links, or see the rest of the guide below.
Firstly, this section doesn't seem all that necessary. The entire point of the guide is to answer this question. However, if you'd like to keep it, I'd recommend changing the answer to something like "If you have a specific question, you can ask in the AQWorlds Q&A (link to the Q&A) or the AQWorlds Farming Discussion thread in the AQWorlds General Discussion (linked to GD)". Regardless, the link in the current answer doesn't do anything but go to the Wiki page of tags, as there is nothing under the list of pages tagged with boost that the link goes to.

- Currently Available Items that Will Go Rare may be a nice idea, but it's going to be a huge pain to keep it current. I won't make you remove it, but you may want to reconsider having it for your own sake. It does add to the guide in some useful ways, but it's not so necessary that the guide suffers without it
- Grimblight of Destiny probably doesn't need the 0% mentioned
- Mentioning all the other boosts in the sections for each of the four earnables, especially since the order switches when you put the same item in a different section, is rather confusing and unnecessary. If someone is interested in the Gold boost of something, they may get confused by having the other ones mentioned too. Overall, it just adds some unnecessary clutter. Especially with the colouring/formatting (see below). It would likely be better to just have the amount of the boost it gives that's relevant to the section it is being listed under (Gold, Rep, CP, etc.)
- Say "Class Points" instead of just "Class". A rather small thing, but they are technically Class Points
- Under "Chaos", you might want to mention the 120% boost to Drakath's forms on the C Unlocked
- Shadow Chaorrupter is spelled wrong (it ends in "or" rather than "er")
- What makes the Elemental Orbs annoying, useless, and spammy? There is very little reason they need to be in their own section rather than in the regular lists. If you truly feel they need to be in their own section, then perhaps elaborate on it, in that their primary usage is for obtaining the class, rather than for the boosts. But again, they'd really be better off just included in the main lists
- In the Special Events area it should be $5, not 5$
- The linked Daily Login Rewards system is not the one in place, so you should remove it. The current system is that even 5 consecutive days of logging in gets you one 20 minute boost for each of the four earnables. I don't think there's a convenient link to use for explaining that, so you'll just have to do it yourself
- We understand the logic of the Recommended Boost Items section, but it just feels off not having in there the best items. Perhaps the best thing to do is separate this into two sections, one of which includes difficult to obtain items for things like AFDL, BLoD, SDKA, AoA, and NSoD, and then the other being what the majority is now (for things that are easier to obtain but may not necessarily be the absolute best)
- In the section of Boosts by Damage/Reward Type, find a way to make it a little more clear when you transition from the earnables to the damages, or just separate them entirely into a section by Damage Type and a section by Reward type
- The Table of Contents is missing a few sections that are currently in the guide (the restricted items and the elemental orbs)
- Links to guides for some of the harder-to-obtain items would likely be beneficial, though I know such guides don't exist for all of them

On the whole, we feel that the formatting, especially with the colours, is somewhat excessive. This distracts from, and thus detracts from, the guide on the whole. Some of the colours are very similar to one another and that can make it even harder to keep track of what's what. When you're looking at it for a while, you start to get the hang of it, but if someone is just coming in for a quick glance, it makes it a hard to keep track of everything and they'd likely have to continually return to the key to figure out what everything means. The formatting for the availability can probably stay, as it's fairly quick to figure out and matches decently with what's in-game, but much of the boost type stuff can probably be reworked. The easiest way would be, as noted above, to only mention the boost amount for the particular section it's being listed under, which removes the need to colour-code the boost. If you don't wish to do that, which would be understandable (and there are some places, like in the recommended boosts section, where multiple boosts are listed and thus it's beneficial to have them identifiable), then some of the colours need to be re-evaluated. Gold needs to be a darker colour. You don't want to sacrifice readability for something cutesy like making the colour for Gold boosts gold. You can have it be something similar, like orange, but the current colour is hard to read. Reputation, likewise, is hard to read, with the light grey on a light grey forum background. However, this may benefit from being changed to green so it matches the in-game colour a little better. The other two earnables could also be changed to match in-game colours better, so you'd have: Rep is green, CP is red, Exp is dark purple, and Gold is orange. The light blue for the Undead boost is also hard to read, and could benefit from being a darker shade or different colour.

This isn't really separated into "must change" and "maybe change" or anything like that, as we'd like you to consider all of them. If there is anything you are confused and need clarification about, please let me know. We look forward to seeing a revised version of the guide!

I'm going to remove it, not because it's a pain to update, but mainly because sometimes there's no way to tell what items are going rare. It's not obvious whether some events/shops are temporary or not (e.g. Crownsreach merge shop), so when content with boosts items unexpectedly go rare, I don't want to have misled anyone.

Grimblight of Destiny probably doesn't need the 0% mentioned

I needed some way to say it boosts 'All Monsters damage except Undead' (the only item with a boost like this). But I think writing "15% except Undead" might be fine.

quote:

What makes the Elemental Orbs annoying, useless, and spammy? There is very little reason they need to be in their own section rather than in the regular lists. If you truly feel they need to be in their own section, then perhaps elaborate on it, in that their primary usage is for obtaining the class, rather than for the boosts. But again, they'd really be better off just included in the main lists

I don't like it because 24 orbs x 3 boosts on each = 72 different entries across the list in every Cape section, and I absolutely will not do that because it detracts from the practicality/usefulness of the guide.
But now that I think about it, I can add it to the main lists as 1 entry under each different type of boost, labelled as "Elemental Orb Cape". (similar to "Any +3 Chaos Lord Weapon" and "Any Naval Top Hat", but not with an "Any", since all the Elemental Orbs have different boosts).

quote:

The linked Daily Login Rewards system is not the one in place, so you should remove it. The current system is that even 5 consecutive days of logging in gets you one 20 minute boost for each of the four earnables. I don't think there's a convenient link to use for explaining that, so you'll just have to do it yourself

Thank you for this. There was nothing explaining it, so I could only leave in what the previous guide said, and hope it was still true.

quote:

We understand the logic of the Recommended Boost Items section, but it just feels off not having in there the best items. Perhaps the best thing to do is separate this into two sections, one of which includes difficult to obtain items for things like AFDL, BLoD, SDKA, AoA, and NSoD, and then the other being what the majority is now (for things that are easier to obtain but may not necessarily be the absolute best)

The original plan was to have a Not-Recommended Boost Items section as well, but I would need to give enough information so people know if the item is just impossible for them (e.g. not enough time for NSoD, no Nulgath Resource Pets, specific farm is not enjoyable to them), or if the item is humanly possible to obtain for their character. And I would do this by linking to the guide for obtaining that item, but like you say, most of them don't have a guide.

That's what I thought at the time, but including a little description on each item isn't the end of the world, so long as I can keep it humanly practical, which will help keep it shorter (e.g. farming NSoD without SDKA is impossible, farming AFDL without resource pets is impossible, etc). Not exactly impossible, but more in the sense of "so much more difficult that it should never be done, ever" This section would just be each item along with the description, and not sorted into lists under "Experience", "Damage", etc.

quote:

In the section of Boosts by Damage/Reward Type, find a way to make it a little more clear when you transition from the earnables to the damages, or just separate them entirely into a section by Damage Type and a section by Reward type

Agreed.

quote:

if someone is just coming in for a quick glance, it makes it a hard to keep track of everything and they'd likely have to continually return to the key to figure out what everything means.

much of the boost type stuff can probably be reworked. The easiest way would be, as noted above, to only mention the boost amount for the particular section it's being listed under, which removes the need to colour-code the boost.

I think they still need to be colour-coded, because the Restricted Items section isn't sorted by type of boost, so all the boosts of each item still needs to be listed there. But for the rest of the guide, not sure if I agree. I don't think it makes it any harder to keep track of, because you can always look at the first number only, in descending order (e.g. under Reputation, the boost amount for an item's reputation is always listed as the first number, etc). I think once a reader understands that, the only difficulty then is that some names are long or short, which means you sometimes have to skim around to find the boost number.

quote:

some of the colours need to be re-evaluated.

Agreed, except maybe for rep, unless I use different shades of green for Experience and Rep. But I can experiment with this a bit, since it's easy to change all the colour at once with a script or command (e.g. swapping text 00FF00 -> FF0033)

quote:

- The Table of Contents is missing a few sections that are currently in the guide (the restricted items and the elemental orbs)
- Say "Class Points" instead of just "Class". A rather small thing, but they are technically Class Points
- Shadow Chaorrupter is spelled wrong (it ends in "or" rather than "er")
- In the Special Events area it should be $5, not 5$

fixing.

update first paragraph
add 120% vs Drakath on C Unlocked
mention how racial and universal boosts stack
scrap Currently Available Items that Will Go Rare
remove Grimblight's 0%
Change colours for more readability
Class Points instead of Class
fix spelling of Shadow Chaorrupter
scrap Elemental Orbs section and add 1 all-encompassing entry into each relevant 'Capes' section
Fix 5$
Update daily login rewards (5 consecutive days = 1 boost for all 4)
separate +%boosts and +%damage more clearly
update Table of Contents
Link to guides for other difficult boost items (if they exist)

If anyone wants to take over this guide for the purpose of doing those things, (or do those things but not take over the guide permanently), that is ok with me.

Need to collect all the updated numbers for Dragon damage gear above. Can any AE staff confirm the numbers? If not, I need help from normal players who own some of it, especially the Rares.

To test weapons, equip Berserker Class and use the [2] skill on an Dragon-type enemy.
This skill ignores a weapon's stability, and deals "Weapon DPS" as damage.
Make sure that any gear being swapped out has the same enhancement. Check for:
1) non-crit and crit using weapon with no boost.
2) non-crit and crit using weapon with +% dragon damage.

e.g.
I was hitting 176 & 702 crit normally, but then 282 & 1122 crit with Evolved Dragon Blade. This means it must have a 60% damage boost against Dragons.

The ErosionSeeker
*insert cheesy pun here*

Given the Awethur's Accouterments, which only require BoA completion as opposed to Cape of Awe which requires either Legend / Guardian / level 55 on top of that, while offering boosts that basically kill everything in-category before the Cape, it should be the number 1 priority, because you'll hit that point before you can access CoA anyways.

After hitting 55, then switching to Burning Blade / Aranx should be the thing to do.
15% more damage pales in comparison to a whole +25% progress.
