Right, and now he doesn't have skin, which means his every second is a torturous agony because of all the exposed nerves. Have you ever actually touched your own muscle without your skin being in the way to dull the sensation? Imagine that pain, but on every single inch of your body at all times. The only thing "lucky" about his entire situation is that he somehow didn't break down into a useless gibbering mess within a week of discarding his armor. A prime example of how mind-breaking it is is Alexander, who went mad within a few minutes of just his face suffering through that kind of pain.
Also, yes, the sword controlled him. Mainly by turning his skin into a living parasite that it had complete command over(and also by corrupting his mind).
Also, changing one's appearance with magic isn't that great an accomplishment, and Sepulchure didn't "gain" that ability by discarding the armor, he already had it.
