The main problem with Epic Duel is it has not gone Mobile while other games start out with desk top or counsel games they shortly go mobile creating apps so you can play on the go, if the Epic Duel staff creates an app and make ED mobile and have users spread the word on face book and twitter the number of users will jump to the highest they ever seen.

Also scrap the flash which is unsafe and have too much security flaws and re-code in HTML6, it works with all browsers and operating system.

Beep Beep! ArchKnight AQ GD / EpicDuel

Epic Duel is no longer under development, so I doubt it will hit mobiles now.

I mean yes there are recurring Seasonal weapons and Wars, but no "updates" so to speak. Which I would say the mobile port would be.

There was a lot of talk about a mobile version of EpicDuel and it came up publicly during the development of BioBeasts for obvious reasons.

EpicDuel has a lot of unnecessary bloat that would need to be cut for a mobile version. An example being the movement system and another would be the hub world itself. Even with the removal of these unneeded systems to recreate everything regardless of the method used would be a massive project. Along with the scope of the project you have the general inexperience of the team, all of AE actually, with mobile which you can see in all the fun new ways they keep breaking AQ3D.

I know Digi gave you the mod approved game isn't being worked on but I feel it's better for people to know as much as I can without breaking my NDA. So if you want to know more just ask and I'll try to answer

I have downloaded puffin browser for Android and Played ED on my mobile device and had no problems, no lag, better picture, and in theater mode was able to see everything so it is not to bloated for a mobile device the problem is they are using flash, that will not be supported in a couple of years. If Titan truly cares about his creation then even in his own time he would change the code to HTML5, a code that works in all browsers, that way they would not have to create an app or chopped down the code for a mobile device

So if Titan truly cared about EpicDuel he would work full time on AQ3D then go home and convert the game to a system he hasn't used for a game project in years? All while having a home to take care of as well as a family to spend time with. Then you'd have to make sure the animations work properly and if they have any issues he'd need to rope in NW or Charfade to fix them.

At the end of the day that level of care you are wanting is not a healthy one. The video game industry as a whole already has some nasty working conditions without asking people to take their work home with them.

It's not just a matter of copying and pasting from one language to the other, nor are the resources likely to be compatible in their current form. Most of the game and its resources, could well have to be re-made from scratch, and some things might not be possible to replicate at all.

The developers of EpicDuel, as I recall it, merged into AE due to the similarities in games, but that doesn't mean it is in AE's best interest to let them continue EpicDuel at this time. Perhaps after the successful games have received their new HTML5 versions and we can properly compare how long it takes to convert or rebuild content for them (along with how faithful they will be to the originals), it will be easier to give an estimate on how it could be applied to EpicDuel.

Adobe made it clear they will no longer support Flash after I believe it is 2020 because there is too many security flaws and constant problems with it so AE will have to change the programming language no matter how much they do not want too and it is better to do it now then wait until the last minute. All Programming language is basically the same and can easily modified into the new language so why not select the language that is compatible with all that need no additional plugins or downloads when it is a language that is compatible with all browsers which works well with high definition gaming, the longest part of programming is the debugging. Either AE especially Titan do something or as flash fades away so will AE.

This is an extremely incorrect generalization of what software engineering is. While fundamental CS concepts are language agnostic, you can't just edit your code to work in another language, especially for games since you also have to deal with resources and SDK differences.

Puffin doesn't find a way to magically install Flash on your phone, you're actually using one of their own computers to load everything, then it uses technology similar to remote desktop connection to send the output to your phone screen. Since you're not using the processing power of your phone, that's why everything loads faster, as long as you have a solid internet connection. (Nvidia GeForce Now works similarly)

Anyways, there are plans to move AE's flash games to WebGL: http://www.aq.com/gamedesignnotes/aqwmobilefuture-6482

If ED would have been remade for mobile (which it won't), I'm sure that they would want to have everyone start with a clean slate. I'm not sure how motivated you, me and all of the other old players would be, if we had to start out from scratch with nothing but one or two fancy achievements.

Now onto one of the funniest things I've ever read on these forums... The few users that ED still has would not spread the word on social media and there would be no major or long-term increase in players. Fame was their early attempt to do just that, and they even created two rare achievements as an incentive. Look how miserably it failed, it's now no longer on character pages and is just a glorified click collecting contest in-game.

Off topic:
Btw, do you guys remember this guy from forums? The proudest Blood Mage in ED, has strong (unchangeable) opinions.

@8x You are correct. Even if they made the standalone version of EpicDuel that ran through Stream, or what have you, because of the way the master account system works data can't be transferred

"But as open standards like HTML5, WebGL and WebAssembly have matured over the past several years, most now provide many of the capabilities and functionalities that plugins pioneered and have become a viable alternative for content on the web. Over time, we’ve seen helper apps evolve to become plugins, and more recently, have seen many of these plugin capabilities get incorporated into open web standards. Today, most browser vendors are integrating capabilities once provided by plugins directly into browsers and deprecating plugins.

Given this progress, and in collaboration with several of our technology partners – including Apple, Facebook, Google, Microsoft and Mozilla – Adobe is planning to end-of-life Flash. Specifically, we will stop updating and distributing the Flash Player at the end of 2020 and encourage content creators to migrate any existing Flash content to these new open formats.

Adobe will also remain at the forefront of leading the development of new web standards and actively participate in their advancement. This includes continuing to contribute to the HTML5 standard and participating in the WebAssembly Community Group. And we’ll continue to provide best in class animation and video tools such as Animate CC, the premier web animation tool for developing HTML5 content, and Premiere Pro CC."

^All of that is true, and AE has plans to remake their games in WebGL, starting with AQW. It's still a non-trivial task to move a game from Flash to HTML5, WebGL or WebAssembly. Just because they "provide many of the capabilities and functionalities that plugins pioneered and have become a viable alternative for content on the web", it doesn't mean how you use them is the same as Flash. iOS and Android are both mobile platforms, but it's not easy for you to build an Android app in Java/Kotlin using the Android SDK by "easily modifying" the code you have for your iOS app built in Swift using the iOS SDK, unless you have an app so basic that a cross platform framework like React Native or Xamarin works well for you.

It also wouldn't make sense for EpicDuel team to be the ones porting the game over. The team working on the AQW port would be best position to quickly port over other projects in the future. Given the questionable returns on these projects it shouldn't be a company mandate that everyone learn how to do this process like it was with unity

You learn C++ you can program in any code and even some multi-player games are programmed in C++. Once you make a few changes into a new browser based code then an app would not be needed right away players would be able to play Epic Duel in any browser on any device, it is better to get these things down now instead of wait til 2020.

Other things that are happening in 2020, the cell phones that operate on 4G network will not work on the new 5G (means HD movies/gaming without the buffering or lost connections) and the 8K UHD TVs will be brought out.

WhiteTiger best and quickest way to do the transfer is setup new servers not connected to the internet and each day a different programmer migrates part of the code to the new code leaving a comment/notes where they stopped until complete and debugging is done. That would be the fastest way and not all of would be bugged eyed at once.

^There is so much wrong with everything you just said:
1. There isn't any programming language that you can use for everything. Android uses Java and Kotlin. iOS uses Objective C and Swift. Unity uses C#. WebGL uses JavaScript. You use whatever language is required by the SDK.
2. Even after 5G is out, everyone's phones will work just fine on the existing 4G networks. 4G isn't going anywhere for a long time, 2G networks still exist in the US today.

3. The server code isn't the issue here, the client is. The server is the backend and is essentially the brains of the game while the client is everything you see on your screen, and that's the part of the game that requires flash, the server does not. What you don't seem to understand is that it's not easy to migrate a Flash game to another game engine. It's not as simple as just migrating the code to a different programming language because there are thousands of graphical resources that also need to be migrated over, which is difficult because the current Flash game files have the animations embedded within the file, and that's not going to work with any other game engine. It is an extremely difficult task to migrate a game as large as EpicDuel over to another game engine, and it might even be easier to start from scratch for certain things.

I'm a Software Engineer at Uber working on mobile, so I can assure you I know what I'm talking about. Since it doesn't seem like you really understand how software development works, and we're getting nowhere debating this, I'm closing this thread.
