Rather than using the buddy system, or interacting with the main matchmaking queue at all, i propose a rather simple solution:
Password matchmaking.
Toggle Options > Password 2v2 On/off
Text box beneath.
When this option is turned on and a password is entered, you will only be eligible to enter 2v2 battles with players using the same password.
Victories do not count towards Wins, Losses, Credits, Influence, or EXP while using password matchmaking, as it is a recreational mode.
There is no leaderboard for this method of doing 2v2.
EDIT: This would also allow for groups larger than 4 to participate. For example: A group of 8 players would be able to all use the same password, and get different partners randomly each time without having to constantly re-link with new partners every time you want to change.
