There are only about five varium exclusive cores in the game right unless you count permanently rare stuff (most of which are garbage or underwhelming like Curse, Curse Aura, Stun Shot): Absorption, Massive Strike, Frostbite, Chairman's Fury, and Thorn Assault. And Absorption is technically available for Credits on the Blood Hawk Armor. It's possible that Soul Siphon might also be varium exclusive, but no one knows at this point. Chairman's Fury is currently terrible. Frostbite can be replaced with Frost Shards in basically any build. Yes, Frostbite does cost a bit less energy, but it doesn't change primary to Energy damage (which is useful for some of builds) and is blockable. Thorn Assault is only a hair better than Meteor Shower which isn't that great to begin with. Massive Strike is less useful than Strength boost for basically any build except high Support builds and certain Merc/BM builds since Bunker/Plasma have a 25% crit rate. And Absorption is suicide against any build except Focus builds (which make up only about a third of the population based on this recent data) and, if you go second, the opponent can just use robot while you have full energy to get around it that time. It's similar to Pyro Fly in that in some battles it is a free win because of how broken the effect is, but plenty of times it's a big fail. I suppose the Omega cores are technically varium-only too since the Omega weapons are varium-only... but the Yeti Charge is useless for 99% of competitive builds these days and because the weapons come pre-loaded with the Yeti Charge, any build that wants to use Override foregoes +6 Strength or whatever other passive core that they may have wanted to use. And Override is arguably less useful or only about the same usefulness than Frost Shards for basically any build except possibly Support CH. Basically, I would say that your win rate will rarely improve to a significant degree just because you bought some varium cores, and in some cases your win rate might decrease if they end up sucking for your build. At the end of the day, it is still technically pay2win, sure. I'm not trying to prove that it's not. But it's just not nearly as bad or necessary to change it as might seem. I'm not really against the idea, but I'd also be happy without it too. On a side not, we are already really lucky that Massive Strike, Frostbite, Chairman's Fury, and Thorn Assault were brought back at all because they used to be permanently rare (only available on the rare promo weapons they originally came out on). Celtic Cleaver was already brought back with a credit price and the Friday the 13th weapons, which can also be bought with credits, have a core that is basically a remake of Curse. As someone who owns all of these promos, I'd feel a bit weird if all their cores just came back for credits.
