Welcome to a tutorial on how to make a weapon

Ok, Lets Start off with a few requirements:
Either of these art programs:
Flash CS3
Gimp
The knowledge of where things are.
The knowledge of being able to curve a straight line.
The knowledge of adding a gradient effect.
and last but not least...
The knowledge of BEING CREATIVE!

Okay lets start,
Open a empty document with the program that you have selected to use.
1# Then get the line tool and start off by drawing two straight lines parallel to each other.

2# Then you can bend the lines into each other slightly to create a 'curved' effect.

3# Now add a upside down 'V' shape onto the top of the two curved lines. (You can curve the upside down 'V' shape a little if you want)

Okay Now you have the shape of the blade for you weapon.
Now we will do the hilt.

4# Draw a straight line to join the two curved lines together

5# Now either side of the 'blade' draw two identical lines

6# Now you have many options now, You can:
Bend the two lines
Turn them into spikes
Turn them into creatures
and many more, but for this tutorial I will turn them into spikes.

Okay Now you have the shape of the hilt for your weapon.
Now we will do the handle

7# Once again draw two identical lines from the hilt downwards. You can make the handle as long as you want or as short.
Then a little tip is to curve the bottom of the handle.

8# Now you can add little details to the handle like:
Material going aroung the handle
Adding indents into the handle
and many more, but for this tutorial I will do little indents.

Okay Now you have your handle to your weapon.
Now we will add details to the whole weapon.

9# If you look at where the blade and the hilt meat it looks a little too straight. All you need to do is bend it a little

10# The blade looks a little plain doesnt it... Lets add another layer on top.
All you need to do is copy the shape of the blade then make it a little bit smaller.

11# The handle looks a little wack, Let's PIMP it out!
Adding another layer underneath the handle is a good effect which I use quite often.

Ok That looks ok, Now for the color.
Color is quite important and are really effective.

12# I will use Green and Black color scheme, Really I cant tell you how to color your weapon because its up to you.
Here is how my weapons evolves by color.

13# Adding Little Things;
Adding ancient writing is a very well used thing when it comes to weapons.

Okay, Thats basically it!
You have a weapon, Colored.
Oh wait..A background and a glow.

14# The glow should be a color very close to the color you used for your blade. (Green in this case)
And the backround should be dark, Usually black.

This was my first ever tutorial and I was making the blade while writing this tutorial which was pretty hard.
I would love to see some of your outcomes! Good Luck
Remember you can change any of the steps to make your blade totally different!

... :O So that's how you make your weapons! Maybe I can make a good one in GIMP.

Edit: Could someone tell me how to curve the lines in GIMP? I'm stuck at that part. ._.

I can't see what I should be able to get as a result because you uploaded it to TinyPic, but I'll try anyway. Edit this post once I finish.

Nice tutorial! I'm usually opposed to gradients, but they don't look at all bad here

Keep it up

It's a nice tutorial, and you can probably use it for hand-drawing too. I find it harder to draw only using line tool, so I usually scan in hand-drawn pictures and trace them over.
