I'm sure that I posted something similar in the past, but compared to when this game started, hasn't content been toned down? For example, there was a certain comment in Aria's pet shop that used to be there but is no more. However, I was told by the mods not to mention it in public, so I won't. That being said, the original description of the Kresh spider implied that the Paladins committed arachno-genocide on them, but the new description omits this. Orc deaths are still pretty violent, but the Drakel Destroyer used to essentially commit suicide in its defeat animation, but now, their mace just falls on their foot. Generally speaking, don't eyes turn white imply death? However, somehow, despite that happening, Nepto is revealed to have survived to join one of those villain alliances. If he had died, the hero would have essentially committed genocide, given that Nepto is canonically the last of his kind.

The game has become more friendly over the years. Once developers figure out their target audience they will adjust violence and story themes accordingly.

This is common from what I have seen in game storylines.

I know at least 3 game sagas where something similar happen to the story and "violent" content as the years go by and sequels are released.

Also, to keep the hero's hand "clean", as per the genocide of the Kresh by the Paladins and the genocide of Nepto's race by the hero.

I both agree and disagree.
Visceral blood, gore, and blatent hero-induced death in victory animations has certainly been toned down due to wanting to welcome and maintain a broader demographic. But with the paladin rework on the very near horizon you have to remember that this storyline all started with the paladins deciding to start a (without saying the word directly, granted (iirc)) genocidal war on every necomancer on Lore, ending with both sides almost being wiped out due to deaths or abandonment of their respective order. Additionally, the current Dragonlorn Keep storyline seems to have our hero investigating what was a mass extinction event in the lands to the west. So, in terms of tone it's not like the writers are afraid to make the story more dark, even if it has gotten more ' 'child friendly' '.

You are right.

I remember there was a quest that had the discussion of depression and death, as part of the story. Seeking Silence it was called.

Strictly speaking, you cannot commit genocide on a profession. The Kresh example was a better example of paladin-induced genocide, and I'm pretty sure that Nepto the last of his kind was meant to die when you kill him. People die when they are killed. As for suicide, like a paladin slaying undead, I find this a good use of my time: http://quietube7.com/v.php/http://www.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqY3oeS_xUk
