Hello all =) lets get right to it.. i used to play alot back when the level cap was still 30 and any of you who knew/know me know that i will always be a Caster tech mage.. but recently after comming back from a break ive noticed there are not very many casters at all anymore.. i even get comments about being a Caster such as "Your a rare one" or "Does caster even work anymore" i mean im a tech mage, shouldnt i be a caster? isnt that what a mage IS? it seems to me alot of changes in the game have pushed out some mage skills such as overload or the plasma bolt.. take Frost bane for e.g the skills i mentioned will not work with a sword and so mages who use it have made diffrent builds without using any of the skills that should or once were a mages primary asset in battle.. I do think it is great that so many builds are available tho with diffrent weapons and we are not just in a sort of "this is all i can use with this class" sort of thing.. however thats not my point, my point is that tech mages seem to be turning into a form of Merc/BH where high support and high strength go above most other things.. leaving little need for the skills of a tech mage when all you have to do is pick up a sword.. i mean just like the healer loop merc we now have healer loop mages so that in itself atleast shows my point slightly, please feel free to discuss if you have any oppinions on this and also.. are there any other casters out there besides me?

I think I remembered you a long time ago... Well casters tend to use alot of mana but dont have luck factors when they hit except overload which is a stun. Mages just can't somehow feel that casters aren't their true build ever since beta times when Xendran created his high hp heal looping build.

Caster doesn't really work as much as it used to anymore but I'm glad your a loyal mage :)

is a plasma bolt dealing 60 damage against an an enemy with 30 res, worth 33 (I think) mana?

That is 1 mana per damage... it is in no way worth it -_-

Casters die since they dont ignore resistance. It only works good at low levels when people dont know about armor or hybrid armor :P

If you wanna see a BEAST caster build that ACTUALLY works, come to my house, top floor, server epic. My name is iamawesome. (85% ratio for pvp... 90% if I npc)

EDIT: The biggest mistake techmages do at level cap is a thing arcanis taught me. 48 energy.

well we dont have physical staffs anymore.
so hard to be a caster with just energy staffs.
thats how bad tech mages are discriminated.

They prolly won't make physical staffs since they got deadly aim.. i guess thats how it should be

Well, there are mostly hybrid casters left.
Like me..
I use lvl 2 stun and rarely the plasma bolt with the kringle bot staff when I need the 3 damage unblockable hit and I have no other options except strike and the gamma bot attacks.

Caster mages are rare because support mages and +5 focus mages with malf, heal, and assimilate are better 10 fold.

Lvl 10 plasma bolt uses up too much energy, though can be deadly with rage and high tech.
lvl 5-10 overload is too much energy for a stun. Lvl 4 is the best lvl for it
Plasma rain and supercharge just sucks. I'm not even kidding.
plasma rain is just the other weakened skill of plasma bolt and has it's only real use in 2vs2.
Supercharge uses up way too much energy just for some 20% resistance and some amount of damage+hp regain. Field medic is a better skill that is just pure heal.

All in all, this is why PURE caster mages suck. It's just that plain simple.
Hybrid mages are better.

i was on the leaderboard one day not on top like 15-10 ... and i got 94.6% with it

Does Malfunction --> Max Plasma Bolt count? That's part of my Tech Mage's Build, and it's pretty awesome, IMO.

With Casting, it does take prep and time to set up. Mage is a slow moving class. Casting can be effective, but it needs to be selective.

I have only used generally one build for defensive purposes because I enjoy slow passive play, but I feel, to better the class, I should not remain in my comfort zone of which I feel very effective in my play.

A build master I have never been, and it seems, it would be a good time to try. Starting next week, my thoughts will focus on expanding the class with effective variety.

I think the only usefull caster move for a mage is overload.
It can help give that extra 15 damage with rage to maybe save your life, or gives you time to heal. :P

I just realized that if Xendran hadn't created heal loop, none of the complaining in Beta would have happened, and people would be pretty much satisfied with how the classes were right now

Ive never even seen heal loop and I complain about mages having underpowered skills, no physical staffs and too many staff requirements on skills.

xendran didnt create heal looping, his high hp build, was for 3 diffrent uses, to tank, to scare off oppenents with the high hp and to hit hard with a high heal and a big malfunction for the damage, in one of his videos, he even explains why he uses high hp, he did not CREATE heal looping.

It was just the people of the time didn't want to evolve a make a build that could beat the heal looper which there was many of they just did my want to evolve or die so they ended up complaining to the point that the staff killed the build

Casters have always been harder to play. It takes more strategy and patience to make things work out, and the EP needed to run the skills often detracts from much needed defenses. It would be cool if there was a balanced means of making Plasma Bolt and Rain more energy efficient.

And shoot, I was using heal looping within the first few days of the game... a lot of people were. Its something that has honestly always been there and just been refined over time.
