I has recently come across an explanation for why mages aren't as strong as the other 2 basic classes...
when you fight a mage you know that 9/10 times he/she will be energy based
Mages have no other element of attacks especially unblockables other than energy and they aren't very strong... bludgeon doesn't really count cause it's not very strong and it's blockable
BH's have poison and multi shot which both can be used to a deadly effect but all mage's unblockables are energy
it is easy for BH's and Mercs to dominate higher levels
I have a 27 non varium BH and i just spammed atrength with max smoke and bloodlust and i can kill 32's sometimes
and i have a 30 merc non varium and i just used a support build and he pretty strong himself

Support build are basically the only build non varium TMs can use. Varium TMs have the option of 5 focus. Also, many TM skills require a staff, and the best non var TM staff currently (jelly staff) has a 40 strength requirement, which is a great disadvantage for us as sacrificing support for strength diminishes our heal value, putting us vulnerable to all strength builds and support builds.

Mages are an excellent class and I dominate with out using a focus or support build ;).

the majority of mages I see levelling don't use malfunction, yet every bounty hunter uses smoke. mages only have energy unblockables, but overload then plasma bolt is the most popular l
levelling build and even as a varium player, when I face those guys I have to take their first 2-3 turns very seriously. at max level I'd always say go with some kind of malfunction build. how
are you gonna do any damage without it, while also having the defences to deal with your opponents damage. I know blood mages have to make do but they have blood lust to compensate.

so what is your suggestion to give mages an extra physical attack ? oh and what about cyber hunters ? they literally got NOTHING.

Caster builds were the up ones and the debuff were really low, that's why it was oped, but then of balance changes, it has become a balanced class but it needs minor adjustments.

Let me point some flaws out in your thoery as a succesful F2P TM.

First off we do have Physical staffs physical guns and physical Auxs two out of the three we are very addept at using, guns via Deadly Aim and Auxs via a nice support build.

Second off is Bludgeon it is weak yes but it has saved my hide more times then i want to count that extra damage, even on a weapon as weak as caden's wrath, is worth ever bit of energy. Also it is a bit of a suprise move being it has a low energy cost compaired to the rest of our moves if you invest a handful of points into it you can pull a nice hit out of nowhere on your enemy which could be enough to end the match or take the offencive side of the battle. Also it can be used with a sword for a deadly 1-2 punch with a nice high powered sword
Now i noticed the slight skills bashing Poison multi is a very rare combp to see on BH's and even then it is not a very effective build as Dex is a very underrated skill even when paired with the Multi and Poison people complain it is too much energy for such a weak skill. Now i dont have to say anything about mercs as they own 2v2 and it has been an unquestioned rule for about a year. But this draws its power from a support spam happy build.

As for the comments about Mages being weak at high levels that is becuase, sadly to say, most high levels mages couldn't find their way out of a wet paper bag becuase we had a very nice no thought build for awhile and many mages just want it back.

In addition to the restricted skill tree, mages also have a small range of weapons to choose from both mercs and BH's have plenty of phys and energy weapons to choose from but mages only have like 8 or 9 physical staffs to choose from and 93% of them are either promo or varium and all of them are for high level staffs so low levels have no physical staffs to choose other than swords and most swords aren't that good tomy standards at least

you're probably saying "Hardcore, you never said anything about mercs" do i really have say anything about them all they have to do is spam either strength or support and have high tech and they're practically unstoppable

gotta agree with all that ^^

lost many times to a well timed bludgeon, poison is still very awkward to make work consistently, I've given up trying it with either hunters.
I hate all those players who say mage is dead because of agility, yet when I am on my mage, players tell me I give them a good name.

2v2 is still a major issue though purely because of support.

I have played Mage for quite awhile before I switched over to Blood Mage. Mages are only weak because most who use them refuse to think and make a good build. I used Overload successfully in a build before spells got a buff along with many skills. I even used Strength Mage and was very successful with it. To say Bludgeon is weak is a crime against the skill. I've gotten some real nice damage out of it before and I regularly use it on my alt to get a nice 20-30 damage for a lvl 1 against mercs who switch Hybrid on me.

Mages are certainly not weak. You just have to think to use it; my mage can easily defeat most players that I meet. On occasion, I can even defeat non-tank varium players.

@ND your alt and my lv 32 do about the same damage with bludgeon that is kinda sad on my part

I completely disagree,

In my opinion the only poor blanace issue is tactical mercs they are the only thing cuasing problem and they make every class seem weak so dont think your the only one being effected.

I certainly don't think mage's are weak because i was a non var mage once.It takes time to get use to TM class it's very skill full i will give that.I also think that it can dominate those 2 other base classes with the right build and strategy cuz i know many have done it.Maybe the mage you've fought was not that skillful or he didn't hav the right build or you may have gotten lucky with a crit or sumthing.Again i don't think mage's are weak it takes skill to be a mage cuz it can be the strongest but not the weakest.

I actully think that all 3 base classes are fairly even and it's usally the players skills which determines the victor though luck does play a role.
Shame only about 20% of the pop of lvl 33s use base classes and about 75% of the remaining players are tactical mercs.

Anyone remember making an alternate mercenary? If you started with hybrid armour then switched to energy armour vs a mage they could barely hit above 3 damage besides rage... ever. Most of them aren't too witty to hit you with bludgeon.

Or because strngth based attacks are weak at low levels hence the reason why noobs spam thing like plasma bolt, bunker, artillery, multi shot etc.

the best you would excpect to hit on a merc after the switched hybrid with bludgeon is 15 or less....

now only if they could shot a mini fireball/laser beam from the staff (increases with dex/tech/supp)

sry if i offended i wasn't saying mages are weak and nothin to be afraid of i was saying they aren't as strong as other classes
Another thing is that assimilation seems a little too low for me compared to atom smasher and emp 'nade

well, most of the really good non varium mages went to blood mage or they quit. one i can name of is ss. (something)qgodi.ss whatever her name is...a really good normal mage for non varium is... ._.
