So the way the skill works is that it looks at your armor and shield independently. First you ignore the shield and only look at your armor's resistances. The armor has 39% Light. The effect makes attacks from Undead monsters deal damage as if they attacked on 39% resistance. Note that the skill does not change the element of the attack. That means that in order to further protect against the damage, you want to use a shield that protects against the element that the monster attacks with. However, the Paladin Armaments shield has the same effect as the armor (after unlocking it at class level 9). This means that it also forces the Undead monsters to deal damage as if they attacked on the shield's Light res. So the skill makes the effect of the armor and shield stack, so you get 39% - 26% = 13% (which is shown in the player scroll).
