Oh well. If everyone thinks I'm wrong, I guess you all don't see how plain it is. Tried it:

Trake that actually looks nice. Except for the render. And the text.

Trake, this is for the people who are new and inexperienced to GIMP (i.e. they just downloaded it). It helps them learn how to smudge. And I remember you being like that a few months ago, too. :D

Trake, look at that tag. Do you see the depth there? That depth is great. Not perfect, but the depth is there, and in some of your other tags, that depth is missing. The thing that makes it look bad is the colors-not the best choice, the colors definately don't compliment each other.
Anyway, you say its plain, but remember, its a "bg tut". You do stuff with it once you get the smudging done.

So here's my outcome (i know it sucks)

You sure were bored. If you're gonna make a tut, don't make one just to sit there and float away. Because even beginners can do tuts much better than this.

First of trake , you should feel priveledged to even be aloud to read this tut ,with your attitude, you think its basic? Your thinkin wrong .
Many high rated people use this technique ,

Basically your sayin this tut sucks!Personally I think you have no right to say that, as i don't see you doing much better (sorry its my opinion)
Now im not gonna go start a flame war , cause personally im not gonna waste my time!

crazysk8er , don't let very negative comments such as Trake's get you down, this is a very good tut !

edit : Trake this might help you :S

Jeez, WHY IS THIS SUCH A BIG DEAL? Sorry I think it's plain, but just sharing my opinion. And you know what Tormenter? Look at that CC tip you posted a link to.

Well look who started a flame war? Just let it go. I just think it's plain, I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

I'm not saying the tut sucks. I'm just pointing out that beginners can still do something better than it. And you know what? Look at that second sentence, then look at the link you posted! And to crazysk8er: I'm glad you're not raging about what I typed. And at least no one else is raging. Whatever Tormenter, I'll just ignore you. And at least Howler said it in a much nicer way. Sorry for flaming/spamming whatever I just did that might be wrong. Okay, you want some good CC? Okay, here's some CC:

Not too bad. Well first thing, way too plain. Just clouds or whatever. Needs a little pizza (pi-za: Excitement). It did help introduce some people to smudging. I'd like to see a result from you Crazysk8er with a render text and border. Really, you need to find away to fix up how you smudged it you can tell you smudged it with jitter, 'cause of like the lil circles.

sonic: please explain to what makes jitter so bad, because it doesnt look like horrible to me

Whoops, didn't notice it, stupid edits that I don't pay attention to *rambles on*
The jitter is a bit too obvious I fiddled with mine and took the opacity of the jitter down.

@Aurora WhiteWiolf, In the smudging bit of Gimp there should be a tickable box which says "Apply Jitter" or something along those lines.
Click on that box and then change the movable bar under it to what scale you want the jitter to be at.

edit: and to show that you can make a sort of decent tag with a bg like this, heres something i did just now. took about 5 minutes.

and borders + text arent exactly mandatory in a tag. also, this isnt a tutorial for a tag, just a background. i see no need for backgrounds with pizazz, b/c that would be distracting and would screw with the focal. and i like the jitter, it would be just a bunch of boring circles without the it. jitter sort of adds detail and makes smudging look more interesting imo.

What I mean is make the brush smaller or something, because the circles are too noticable-Not take away the jitter. Look, you can tell you smudged with jitter, it's to obvious, and the circles are big and noticable. If it didn't have jitter than this would be pointless. And just to everyone else: I didn't mean it such a harsh way...
