Rambo55 -> [GIMP]Dragon scale Tut!! (5/2/2008 19:49:04)

Hey this is my first Tut and i'm kinda new to the whole art thing so here it goes!!

Step 1: First of all open up a Canvas(Im gonna Use a 500x100 today) and make sure it's white!

Step 2: Pick your favourite brushes and favourite Colours and just have fun and Brush around! Make a Design you would like to use(Dont get too attached because you'll be changing it!) I'm gonna go with something like this:
[image]http://s130.photobucket.com/albums/p259/BigAl55_2006/Pedia/1.png[/image]

Step 3: Go into Filters and Find "Slur" Under Noise. Then Set the bars to: 28, 3, and Proceed.
[image]http://s130.photobucket.com/albums/p259/BigAl55_2006/Pedia/1-1.png[/image]

Step 4: Next go to Motion Blur and set the action to Zoom. Next set the bar to 30 and Proceed.
[image]http://s130.photobucket.com/albums/p259/BigAl55_2006/Pedia/1-3.png[/image]

Step 5: Now go down to the filter under Artistic: Weave. it's up to you on the Bar lengths. Just Mess around till you get something you like. I made this:
[image]http://s130.photobucket.com/albums/p259/BigAl55_2006/Pedia/1-4.png[/image]

Step 6: Find the second Last Filter you'll be using Called Iwarp Under Distorts. Just mess around with that Using The Clock wise turn.
[image]http://s130.photobucket.com/albums/p259/BigAl55_2006/Pedia/2.png[/image]

Final Step: Find The Filter Called Mosiac that's also under Distorts. Before you Start this Add a New Layer and make it Background colour(Black). Ok Continue witht he Mosiac. Set the bars to: 11,17,1,70,145,45. If you dont liek that look Try your own Style! Oh And don't forget to check off the box on the right hand side:FG/BG Lighting.
[image]http://s130.photobucket.com/albums/p259/BigAl55_2006/Pedia/2-1.png[/image]

jamesthebond3/carbine -> RE: [GIMP]Dragon scale Tut!! (5/2/2008 20:41:57)

Cool Stuff

master -> RE: [GIMP]Dragon scale Tut!! (5/2/2008 20:58:01)

It makes for a nice looking backround.

Rambo55 -> RE: [GIMP]Dragon scale Tut!! (5/2/2008 21:00:29)

Yeah! thats why In some of my earlier stuff I used it alot! Its really easy to make! Its even easier if you just wan to brush around ans skip steps 3 through 5 Its still works the same way! But... If you do those steps the Scales end up more realistic and gives a better Pattern throughout!

ShyTrake -> RE: [GIMP]Dragon scale Tut!! (5/2/2008 21:08:22)

It makes a nice looking background, but the render and text it doesn't seem so good. Empty. Add in c4d or something and loads effects and text should be placed better. But nice tut though. The colors don't match either. Also in the end you could make new layers and add gradient maps (1 new layer for each gradient map), then expieriment with layer modes and opacity. That would make the colors nice.

master -> RE: [GIMP]Dragon scale Tut!! (5/2/2008 21:09:57)

Yeah thats what I was thinking the colors. Should have used the color pick tool. Though a good tut for low to novice in my opinion.

Rambo55 -> RE: [GIMP]Dragon scale Tut!! (5/2/2008 21:11:46)

Uhh Trake I ahve no idea what you wre saying that whole time! lol sorry But Im kinda new to Gimp and I dont know what Gradient Maps are or anything like that and how they work! Uh Yeah The Sig was for My Friend On another Forum so it was his Request for the Text Placement! I added my name for Ripping Safety.

master -> RE: [GIMP]Dragon scale Tut!! (5/2/2008 21:19:17)

Gradient map: You know when you first open gimp and in the main window it has those 2 colors at the bottom usually white and black. Well you can change them which you probably knew. They are known as your foreground and backround colors. Well a gradient map colors a layer according to those colors. Usually used by making a new layer going to edit>copy visible then pasting that on a new layer. Then you go to (for the new layer) filters>colors>maps>gradient maps then it colors the image according to the colors you used as your foreground and backround. Then I usually just set the layer to overlay.

Thus ends my wall of text :P

ShyTrake -> RE: [GIMP]Dragon scale Tut!! (5/2/2008 21:24:17)

[image]http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa129/Trake345/2-2edit.png[/image] Feel free to rip the edits, you have my permission[&:] I added in a cinema 4d, which is the thing at the left. And the different colors are gradient maps. The white spot at the right is where I added lighting. The blured around the edgges is the border I added.

Rambo55 -> RE: [GIMP]Dragon scale Tut!! (5/2/2008 21:29:44)

Uh Trake yur Link is Broken! But yeah Im trying out this new concept of maps and its kinda cool When you overlap a few different colours!

master -> RE: [GIMP]Dragon scale Tut!! (5/2/2008 21:31:57)

What brush did you use?

Rambo55 -> RE: [GIMP]Dragon scale Tut!! (5/2/2008 21:39:21)

master -> RE: [GIMP]Dragon scale Tut!! (5/2/2008 21:47:55)

Ya I like the grungyness. And that makes this a very good newby tutorial. Plus you learned something too.

Rambo55 -> RE: [GIMP]Dragon scale Tut!! (5/2/2008 22:05:02)

er23. -> RE: [GIMP]Dragon scale Tut!! (5/2/2008 22:59:31)

This tut is very good for new people to gimp, but I have to say that they don't really look like dragon scales. It's a good background, though.

Colors are better but I dont like it.....mostly he render. Did you do a gradient map after the copy visible. DOnt do it to text though.

Rambo55 -> RE: [GIMP]Dragon scale Tut!! (5/3/2008 13:53:39)

YEah Im still learnign these t hings! But Ben's Is Pretty sweet! It works better with darker colours and More macthing colours. Dont use Opposites! But Yeah The Render doesnt fit that well But hey thats all My Friend wanted. Ill do it again with a new Render and new colours.

master -> RE: [GIMP]Dragon scale Tut!! (5/3/2008 16:15:36)

Nah the renders fine, it could just use some blending and maybe a effect. A C4d could be a good idea but some may not work right to make it better exactly.

Mostly cause the backround is too....Im gonna say solid so to do blending would be very hard. So a effect and c4d would be ideal. Though this is a very good tut for newer gimpers.

Rambo55 -> RE: [GIMP]Dragon scale Tut!! (5/3/2008 16:34:46)

well Just to tell you this is "NOT" my best work! It's just some stuff I learned while messin' around! My other stuff is much better and is getting better gradually.

master -> RE: [GIMP]Dragon scale Tut!! (5/3/2008 16:37:38)

I never said it wasnt. I can tell because of the text.

Rambo55 -> RE: [GIMP]Dragon scale Tut!! (5/3/2008 16:40:49)

Yeah maybe next time I'll Change that!!

[img]http://s130.photobucket.com/albums/p259/BigAl55_2006/Pedia/bloody-14.jpg[/img]
