Seahawk -> MechQuest Guides: The Rules (3/18/2009 13:25:07)

  • All other Universal Forum Rules apply.

  • Please do not use your signature in the Guide you write.

  • Limit yourself to one Pending guide at a time. This helps insure that you aren't over-extending yourself and creating a sub-par guide. Also it gives other forum members to write Guides as well, rather than having them all be from one person.

  • Limit yourself to 4 total guides (both complete and pending) at any one time. This allows more people to have opportunities to write guides, and also helps make sure that you don't get overwhelmed trying to keep a ton of guides up-to-date. If you are already at 4 guides and wish to write a new one, please use the Inactive/Retiring Guidewriters thread to let us know that you wish to drop one or more of your existing guides first.

  • Make sure your guide isn't overly specific or overly vague. "Seahawk's Guide to Beating the First ShadowScythe Mech You Meet In the Tutorial" would be an example of a guide that is too specific: one minor enemy doesn't need its own strategy guide. Likewise, "Seahawk's Guide to Every Single Item You Could Possibly Ever Consider Buying in MechQuest" is too vague: an item guide would be much more useful if it was broken into separate guides by equipment type.

  • Images are acceptable in Guides, but please keep it reasonable. Banners should follow the forum rules for signatures (100 pixels high X 500 pixels wide and 50K image size). Small pictures are fine, but try not to have more then 4 or so to a thread. If you want to include screenshots or a large amount of pictures, please just provide links to the images instead of using the image tags to display them in the post. All of this will help the forums run more smoothly and keep your Guide from becoming cluttered.

  • Please use proper punctuation and spelling in your Guides. If possible, consider running your Guide through a spell-checker before you ask us to approve it. We all make occasional mistakes, but a Guide that is full of bad grammar and spelling is more distracting than useful.

  • Please avoid excessive use of overly large or colored text. It's OK if your topic headers or important text are in a different color or size for emphasis, but most of your Guide shoudl be in normal-sized black text. No one wants to read an entire guide written in bold, italicized, oversized bright pink text.

  • Your Guide should be mostly original content. It's OK to link to someone else's thread or quote someone else (as long as you give them the appropriate credit!), but your guide shouldn't just be a collection of other people's ideas. You need to offer something new and original of your own.

  • I shouldn't have to repeat this but... No Spamming or Flaming are allowed. The Pending Guides forum allows for replies; this doesn't mean you should be spamming someone else's thread or flaming them if you disagree with their ideas.
