Artix Entertainment, LLC

Universal Forum Rules
Comprehensive Version

Click here for the summary version of these rules. You are responsible for reading and following these rules.

Our first priority is to create a safe and friendly environment for our players. Failure to act responsibly and comply with these rules may result in the termination of your access to the forums. These rules are for all Artix Entertainment Forums. There are also forum-specific rules posted in each forum - please read the rules in each board before posting.

On this forum it's better to ask permission than beg forgiveness. If you have any questions about these rules, please feel free to contact any member of the Forum Staff and Forum Staff Assistants.

Follow the rules and guidelines. Enjoy your time here!

Circe -> RE: =AE= Comprehensive Forum Rules (12/7/2009 19:33:35)

Account Details

Artix Entertainment staff will NEVER ask you for your password.

Do not ask for someone else's account information. This applies to account information of any type. Account names that violate any other rule may be deleted or renamed at any time.

You may have ONLY one forum account per person. Do not share, trade, give or sell your forum account to anyone.

There is no reason for any user to have more than one forum account; any additional accounts created will be banned. The creation of multiple accounts may result in disciplinary action being taken against your original account.

Your forum account is your identity. If you share your account with someone and they break the rules, it will be treated the same as if you broke the rules yourself. If you give your account away, you have given away your identity; any future account you create will be treated as a multiple account for the same person.

Additionally, we advise you not to save your Forum password as a Cookie on any shared private computer account or on any Public Computer. We also advise not using a password other people could easily guess. Also note that passwords should never match a password you have used anywhere else. Accidental (or malicious) sharing of an account can cause your account to be considered a multiple account.

If you have any problems with your forum account (incorrect login/password/banned, etc), first check your email inbox/email spam box. Once you are certain that the issue has not yet been addressed, use the mailer form at https://support.artix.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Do not share, trade, give or sell your game account to anyone.

Your game account is the property of Artix Entertainment, LLC. As such, you are not allowed to give your account/s away, or sell them. Posting to do so is against the forum rules as well as the Terms of Service you agreed to when you signed up to play your account: "You may not sell, redistribute, or reproduce the Software..."

Do not beg for or offer alterations to game accounts.

Do not ask anyone to upgrade your character in any Artix Entertainment game, and do not ask anyone to buy you in-game currency. Do not beg for custom items or to have an NPC/quest/item named after you. Do not offer to play someone else's account, upgrade their character or give them in-game items or currency. Accounts created for begging, trading or selling will be banned.

Do not take game account issues to the forums.

Do not post about game account problems, in-game issues or hacking accusations. Please use the appropriate help page, found on each game's website. Any forum-related accusation, such as posts by another user, a link to a troublesome character page or a Private Messaged offer to hack, should be reported via PM to any moderator found on the Forum Staff and Forum Staff Assistants List.

Posting Behavior

The AE forums have a strict PG rating; AE is a family-friendly company and game and forum content must be appropriate for the underage users that frequent both.

Do not post anything that may offend or inflame another user.

That includes, but is not limited to:

  • Any sexually explicit images or language,
  • Graphic violence,
  • Offensive language that targets another based on gender, race, ethnicity, color, creed, religion or lifestyle.

The AE forum staff reserves the right to remove any content that is deemed objectionable in a public community and levy any penalties that may be considered appropriate.

Profanity and other foul language is not permitted in any form, including acronyms or self-censoring. It is not permitted in a post, in a title or in a forum account name. Evading the forum filter is also prohibited. AE forum staff reserve the right to remove or rename any instances of foul languages and to apply any consequences deemed necessary.

Threatening, harassing, flaming or trolling anyone is not permitted. Any instance of misbehavior directed toward another user will result in any consequences deemed appropriate by forum staff.

Inappropriate content that is not permitted on the forums includes (but is not limited to):

  • content that breaks any laws
  • copyright infringement (many MP3s, ROMs, etc.), warez, CD keys, cracks, passwords, serial numbers, etc.
  • gambling and drugs
  • hacking materials and information
  • selling AE Characters (property of Artix Entertainment, LLC.)
  • terrorism (promotion/carrying it through)
  • trojans, viruses, worms, and other such harmful things
  • Trick links
  • Pranking posts
  • Referral/recruitment links
  • Petitions both for offsite purposes and for AE-related goals
  • Advertising of any kind
  • Spam
  • Feedback or complaints that are not constructive or politely offered
  • Game .swfs or any unreleased content
  • Discussing abusable bugs or instructing others in how to exploit known bugs
  • Do not post spoilers without using the spoiler tags
  • YouTube links which contain innapropriate material ( To avoid this, use quietube.com for the link )

    Do not Spam.

Spam is anything that is not directly related to the topic at hand, as well as any additions to a post that are deemed superfluous and unnecessary. This includes (but is not limited to):

  • Excessive smilies - no more than three (3) per post
  • Signature overuse - no more than once (1) per page within a thread
  • Idle, offtopic chatter
  • Roleplaying outside of the RP forums
  • Bumping a dead thread
  • Using all caps, oversized font or other excessive formatting such as color, font face, strikeouts, etc.
  • Applying official tags (=AE= =AK= =DF= etc.) to your thread
  • Posting a thread aimed at an individual; use the PM system if you want to have a discussion with one person.
  • Double+ Posting: If you have the last post in a thread and want to add to it, please use the "Edit" button instead of making a further post

  • Circe -> RE: =AE= Comprehensive Forum Rules (12/7/2009 19:35:56)

    User Interaction

User conduct on the forums is regulated by forum staff. We must all work together to maintain a friendly and open atmosphere - our community is of vital importance.

Forum staff positions cannot be applied for.

They are filled based on a list of criteria that is not released for public consumption. Asking is not encouraged, be it for a position on staff or for special treatment such as titles or avatar upload. If you would like to recommend another user for recognition based on their on-forum efforts, you may PM a moderator from the Forum Staff and Forum Staff Assistants List but please note that not every suggestion will be taken.

Do not impersonate other users, post for anyone other than yourself or claim ownership of what is not yours.

Impersonation of any kind, be it a staff member, another forum user or anyone that you're not is strictly prohibited. This extends to plagiarism; posting something that is not yours and representing it as your work is not allowed and will result in consequences beyond the norm.

Posting for another user is also not allowed - specifically, you may not post for a banned forum member under any circumstances. Users that are banned from the AE Forums receive correspondence that gives them a staff member as a point of contact as well as a link to the help pages as a means of appeal. Therefore, there is never any circumstance under which posting on the forums for a banned user should be necessary. If you are unsure as to whether your action violates the rules, please feel free to PM a forum moderator.

You are responsible for the security of your account and your personal information.

While posting for another user is not permitted, posting private information - yours or another's - is also prohibited. Do not release your age, location, or any contact information on the forums. If you do so, it will be removed and any consequences deemed appropriate will be applied.

Do not target, attack or flame other users in public or in private.

As stated in the posting behavior, any instances of flaming, trolling, harassment or any other behaviors deemed offensive or inappropriate are strictly prohibited. This extends to conduct in PM correspondences. Any Private Messages that contain offensive or inflammatory content should be forwarded to any of the forum moderators found on the Forum Staff and Staff Assistants List.

Do not post in any language other than English.

The AE Forums, while used by a diverse cross-section of the global community, are English-speaking so all posts should be submitted in English. Any instances of a foreign language should always be accompanied by verifiable translation. The AE forum staff reserves the right to remove any translations that cannot be verified by independent sources.

    Forum Moderation

The responsibility of keeping the forums clean falls to the members of forum staff and staff assistants. They maintain order and use their judgment to determine the best course of action when rules are violated. Each member of forum staff has been extensively trained and as a result, it is within their discretion how the rules are enforced.

Do not attempt to take over for a member of the forum staff or staff assistants.

Mini-modding is posting to instruct another user of the rules in a post that serves no other purpose. It is acceptable to redirect a user to the appropriate forum or thread provided you do it in a polite manner, with more than just a link or a quote, and that you do your best to answer their question/address their issue first. Do not demand a user remove or edit their posts, do not instruct them to leave the forum in any manner, and do not harass, flame or mock someone who has posted in the wrong area. Mini-modding is all about tone of voice. If you cannot post assistance with courtesy, do not post at all.

Rule violations should be left to a moderator or an ArchKnight. If you consider the matter urgent, PM an online moderator. Attempting to handle the issue yourself only makes the situation worse. Enforcing the rules and addressing inappropriate forum behavior is what the forum staff and staff assistants are there for. As such, they have the final say in all matters, even those not fully addressed in the written rules.

Forum Staff has the final say.

If a member of forum staff or staff assistants instructs you to halt or alter a behavior, you will do so. Any attempt to circumvent the rules or exploit gaps or "loopholes" will be met with more severe consequences. The determination as to whether the content of a post constitues things like flaming, trolling, spam, etc. lies with the mod or AK in question, not the users. However, if you have issues with the decisions or actions of a member of forum staff, there is one acceptable manner of appeal and that is to follow the chain of command, as defined below.

For an ArchKnight, you send them a PM in an attempt to resolve the issue privately. You do not post about it in a thread. Any public posts about an AK's decisions will be removed and warned as trolling. If you are unable to privately resolve your issue, you may contact the head moderator of the forum in question. See the Forum Staff or Staff Assistants list to determine whom to contact. If you are unable to resolve your issue with the head moderator of the forum, you may contact the Head of the ArchKnights. If the AK Administrator cannot resolve your issue, you may contact the Head Administrator of the Forums. The Head Admin's word is final.

For a Moderator or an Administrator, you send them a PM in an attempt to resolve the issue privately. Like with the AKs, any public posts about a moderator or administrator's actions will be removed and warned as trolling. If you are unable to resolve your issue with them in private, you may take it to the Head Administrator. The Head Admin's word is final.

    Link Use

Do not link to anything that would not be considered appropriate on our forums. When you post on AE forums with a link to offsite content, that content must be within the boundaries of this forum. Any posts that include inappropriate content, even via links, are subject to the forum rules.

Links that may be removed depending on their content includes, but is not limited to:

  • Youtube
  • Webcomics
  • Lyrics or quotes that contain inappropriate language.
  • TVTropes

Strictly prohibited content includes, but is not limited to:

  • Referral links
  • Advertisements of any kind
  • Trick links

  • Circe -> RE: =AE= Comprehensive Forum Rules (12/7/2009 19:39:09)

    Submissions

Submitting ideas does not in any way mean your art, ideas, etc. will be used or included by AE. However, any content freely submitted to AE for the purpose of inclusion in any format (such as in-game, homepage, forums, etc.) are free to be used by AE as desired.

Any ideas, art, works, or suggestions submitted to Artix Entertainment, LLC (AE), or a member of, for the specific purpose of being used by AE becomes the property of Artix Entertainment, LLC (AE.)

    Circe -> RE: =AE= Comprehensive Forum Rules (12/7/2009 19:40:37)

    Signatures

Signatures are a privilege. Any that do not follow the rules (including ALL of the Universal and forum-specific rules) will be removed.

  • Signature dimensions are 500 pixels wide x 100 pixels tall. Using quote or spoiler tags makes your signature too wide.
  • Default forum text size is 12 pixels, which means you cannot use more than eight (8) lines of text in a signature. Do not use oversized font with more than one line of text.
  • Signature file size must be less than 50 KB.
  • Signatures may only be used once per page within a thread. There are certain forums that prohibit the use of signatures, period. Please see the specific rules of a forum before posting.
  • Signatures may not advertise any external content, nor may they contain referral links or any viral ("do this if") content. Advertising Slogans for Clans & Clubs based on these forums are permitted as long as they are not misleading (eg "Click Here To Join My Clan" is ok, but "click here" or "check this out" are not).
  • Animated signatures are permitted provided that they are not overly flashing, graphically violent or contain any material that is deemed contrary to the spirit of the forums. Forum staff has the final word as to whether a signature is inappropriate.
Any signatures that forum staff deems to flash excessively and could therefore trigger an epileptic or epilepsy-like attack are prohibited and will be removed to ensure the safety of our forum users.

For more information on making and using signatures, please see the Detailed Sig guide

    Standard Forum Information

All Artix Entertainment, LLC related games, forums, etc. are in the private sector. This means that some rights such as the freedom of speech do not apply, as that is only for the governmental and public sectors. Also, implications/threats to sue may result in anything from a warning, post deletion, thread lock, or a ban of your forum account.

You must read the forum-specific rules of any board you intend to post in. You can get a link to all board-specific rules here: Compilation of Forum-Specific Rules

You are expected to know the rules before you post.

Access to this server and any of its related products is a privilege - not a right. There is no excuse for not knowing the rules. The rules apply equally to everyone, old members and new, free players and upgraded. You are expected to learn the rules and abide by them from the moment of registration. When any of these above-listed rules are violated, AE Staff will, at their sole discretion, determine an appropriate remedy. Should there be a disciplinary action taken against your account, you will be notified either by forum PM or through the email attached to your forum account. This includes, but is not limited to, in-thread warnings, PM'd warnings, temporary account suspension, permanent account termination, IP bans and/or legal action.

Should you receive a notification like this, you have up to two weeks (14 days) in which you can appeal the disciplinary action.
In the event that an action is communicated to the transgressing user, the player will have an opportunity to appeal for a review of the decision within two weeks (14 days) time, otherwise, no such review is applicable. It is the responsibility of the user to stay up-to-date on the rules. More information or definitions of key terms can be found here: Key Definitions and Other Notes.

    Forum Staff Assistants

The staff of this community moderate to the best of their ability and at their own discretion. This includes the staff assistant groups, the ArchKnights and the Squires of Order. They work closely with staff and are extensively trained. Their decisions are to be taken as seriously as you would those from any staff member. If a directive from a member of the staff assistant groups is ignored, a member of AE staff will become involved in resolving the dispute.

    Ban Evasion

When a rule violation results in a temporary ban, it is against the rules to make a new account in an attempt to get around the penalty. When a ban evasion occurs, a first offense will result in an extension in the ban length to be determined by the moderator issuing the ban. A second offense will result in a permanent ban. Please see the emailed notification upon any forum ban for information on appeals.
