Acient J -> RE: Regarding the Community (2/21/2011 14:52:24)

I use "Good game :)" instead. I don't use it when they've asked to win, or called me a noob, or told me to stop saying it. What I really don't like is when it's obvious that people do it automatically. For example, someone is flaming you the entire battle (enough for a report), loses, and says "gg."

As far as the community being rude, I've gotten a mix of players.

There are people who do not chat, period. Perhaps their parents are watching, or they are focused on their win record, or any number of reasons that I'm fine with. These people do not bother me. There are people who respond friendlily whether they're being beaten, winning, or lagging. These people brighten my playing experience. (For a well-known example, Fay Beee is one of them.)

There are people who automatically try to set rules for the battle, usually "no heal." I ignore them. I would love to heal myself just to tick them off, but when I play my game normally I don't need to. Then there are the really rude people. I do my best to ignore them, and I report flooding only if they keep at it.

The best thing anyone can do to help the community is by being the better player. Don't let these people rain on your parade. If you start calling them "noob" and whatnot, you just stooped to their level.

PD -> RE: Regarding the Community (2/21/2011 15:29:24)

Just my tidbit...

The Community adversely affects the game in ways you'll never know - Both in demands and in general attitude.

In fact, if not for the community, the game's development would take a much different path - For the Better or worse? Who knows...

Ashari -> RE: Regarding the Community (2/21/2011 17:35:29)

Don't get bothered over silly things like a "gg" in an obviously bad game. Most of the time it's not intentional! I know I've probably done it a few times once I get to the point where I'm not paying attention to the battle anymore. It's just a habit that's hard to stop.

As for the truly rude ones; they have always been there, I really don't think it's gotten much worse. The solution isn't just to ignore everyone, that's not going to help improve the community or yourself. I usually try and get a conversation going and a lot of the time they are really nice people, they've just been having a bad day.

A lot of newer players are just frustrated and need a little bit of help to fix up their day. Don't blow them off so easily. [;)]

@PD: Without community feedback, improving a PVP game would be nigh impossible. Whether our demands are feasible or not, they still help guide the game in the right direction.

bighobbo -> RE: Regarding the Community (2/21/2011 17:44:35)

Well, when a game consists of mostly arrogant, rude, greedy and selfish players like EpicDuel, you know where it is headed. And I think that explains quite a lot too because look at where the game is now.

Avast Volcano -> RE: Regarding the Community (2/21/2011 17:59:44)

I always hate it when people call me a noob just for healing. Healing is part of the game. Also, some people call me bad words like mf for winning.

uria9 -> RE: Regarding the Community (2/21/2011 18:25:10)

the entire community is rude ,just be quiet the hole time ,what you dont say cant hurt people

Many of us are capable of assessing whats going on in a "children's game", making useful suggestions and implementing helpful strategies to assist the game's function. This ability is not limited to a select few individuals and any implication to the contrary is arrogant and self aggrandizing.

I would suggest that implying we as a community are incapable of "knowing" something and that the poster is uniquely capable of "knowing" leads me to discount the poster's opinion as biased.

PD -> RE: Regarding the Community (2/21/2011 19:08:09)

@Sparticus: That's not what I'm getting to. My point is, the community affects the game by through our desires. We complain to nerf something - It gets done, and in turn, a string of events happens to continue this. Those are just the simple things. There are more underlying causes than that.

I'm not sure of this, but you can answer this yourself:

How many realize that it's the community's fault that these "Power Cycles" between classes happen, or that balance problem we ever had was because of our own desires and demands?

How many of us know that by demanding powerful weapons and the like, we forsake the lower levels and therefore create the current level difference problem?

How many people know that by this elitist feeling among the community, it therefore creates this artificial hierarchy that inevitably turns off new players in favor of the older players?

How many people know that by demanding more equipment (or just improve the existing) at the lower levels, we could make a system that "turns on" the newer players?

All those things happen BECAUSE of the community.

There probably are a lot of people who do realize these things. But again, I'm not sure

However, this brings to me the point - Why are we still in this circle that seems to never get fixed in the first place if we knew how we affected the game?

if someone said gg to me. I would ask them what part of this good game, then after that I would call them names. anyways I have swear at you and ava, it does give me right I wish players would stop say gg when not. those that I swear to Im sorry.

Sparticus -> RE: Regarding the Community (2/21/2011 20:05:13)

Most of the item that were mentioned were addressed over a year ago in threads on the old ED forum. What might seem new to some of you is old, hashed over information to others. Since they never got addressed it is my belief that the DEVs don't want to fix them. The community bears no responsibility for the DEVS poor decisions especially when better alternatives were offered up, when warning were given and when money, not content were the primary driving forces.

I refuse to allow the community to bear the brunt of this considering how little say in what goes on we appear to have. The illusion that we have control is just that, an illusion.

No offense to anyone and I don't want this to come across as personal but almost everything that has happened was discussed to the point of uselessness and any conclusion that was ever reached was eventually based on profitability. This is a game built to make money and decisions about how it will work and what will be sold are based on making money.

Avantir -> RE: Regarding the Community (2/21/2011 20:57:31)

I usually don't see any rude language unless I heal. Then people swear at me.

Luna_moonraider -> RE: Regarding the Community (2/22/2011 1:08:18)

@mir
people like, u set a bad example to new players. and gg simply means good game. if u get ticked by people saying gg just ignore them. hmm i just thinking wat are u gonna say to a player if they say something bad bout ya.

what is so wrong bout saying gg. i rather see a gg instead of buwahahahaha noooooooooooooooooooooooooob. gg seem much well kinder i think.

voidance -> RE: Regarding the Community (2/22/2011 2:28:23)

@mir
most of the 2v2ers know im very blunt during my games but i still say gg even if its not, so quit being a child about it and say gg back.

charwelly -> RE: Regarding the Community (2/22/2011 4:26:02)

It doesn't annoy me at all most of the time i keep my mouth shut but sometimes it gets under my skin

Vick Vega -> RE: Regarding the Community (2/22/2011 14:10:51)

I am an old timer and I try to be friendly. However, it is easy to give up after the third or fourth pleez let me winn imm inn da arcade blahhhhhh....

Cinderella -> RE: Regarding the Community (2/22/2011 16:41:23)

I don't know how to solve the issues with the community- there's only so many places I can be at once, and it seems a little extreme to ban everybody who says "noob" in battle.

frogbones -> RE: Regarding the Community (2/22/2011 16:53:45)

The community's overall "attitude" is a reflection of how the game is being run. Most of the time, rudeness to one another is just misplaced aggression that should really be directed toward the developers' pursuit of money.

Crappy game = crappy community attitude.

Soliqe -> RE: Regarding the Community (2/22/2011 20:48:04)

ED was fine until more players from the other branches of AE started coming.

I'm not saying this is AE's fault, but too many spoiled brats spoiled the whole bunch...

Master Volcon -> RE: Regarding the Community (2/22/2011 21:46:42)

@Frog
Its not a crappy game, it has just taken some wrong turns. :)
No need to be so quick in condemning this game

frogbones -> RE: Regarding the Community (2/22/2011 21:48:14)

But Lotus you can't deny that the game has gotten significantly worse practically every release since the merge ....

@MV: Trust me, I've been patient with them. There's not one reason to have faith that things will get better. More Varium items are released, and build creativity gets stifled. That's ED in a nutshell. Soon the only way to win will be with a 5 Focus Gamma Bot build.

Yawn.

voidance -> RE: Regarding the Community (2/22/2011 21:54:02)

@Cinderella
lol? no one should be banned for saying noob, its a common term used in every game. yes some ppl dont understand how to use it correctly but to ban someone for saying it?

Larcell -> RE: Regarding the Community (2/22/2011 22:23:08)

If someone calls me a noob, 99% of the time they are a lower level. When I beat them I say, "A 'noob' beat you. So what does that make you?" Either that or I just say "gg."

sleddyboy3 -> RE: Regarding the Community (2/22/2011 22:39:48)

I say gf anyways (as in even if they are rude and stuff), then the victor is determined.

eragonshadeslayer67 -> RE: Regarding the Community (2/22/2011 23:20:20)

this dude critted on me 70 times (pretty literal) then said "well fought" and it was the most annoying thing ever!

I really don't care about "noob callers" as long as I can defeat them lol
